Firstly you will get there , I used to feel the same, my students have felt the same, but you’ll eventually make it. My tips for helping improve on the basis you’re doing a “cup grip” S/M.

First start with your back against the pole then take a step out so you’re slightly arched as the lower your body the less height you need to make to get up.

Secondly make sure the hands are nice and low again the higher the hands the less pull you have.

Thirdly think about your shoulder blades, try pulling them down like your trying to squeeze a pencil between them and the bottom of your spine.

Make sure when you pull on your arms your elbows are tucked nice and tightly In this will help keep your shoulder blades down , this will also help stop you damaging your rhomboid muscles and gives you more strength when pulling.

Fourth remember to tuck your hips under so you start in an arch but mid air, then you want to rotate your hips forward so your knees Are at your chest, extending the legs must be done at the right point, to early you won’t make it, you really want to extend when your horizontal this weight will help you and then it’s important to really pull on the arms at this point.

Try filming yourself, it’s the best way to improve as you can see what you’re doing right or wrong or you can compare your differences to other people’s and pick up on what they’re doing differently. 🙂

    Hope this helps.

If that’s your body in that photo… I’d be posting it where ever I bloody well could! I would almost be letter box dropping that photo cos for 49 years of age you’re FIT! I’m 24 and I don’t look anything near that! Good on you and your supportive husband 🙂 keep up the good work.

    thanks again!

Yeah i used to practice coming off the pole a lot, but my one at home is 50mm and my grip is the horendous for aysha, straight edge, irox X sort of stuff, i hope to get a 45mm brass soon to stop this problem as i find the 50mm really holds me back in training compared to at a studio.

I thought tru grip might be better as you can use more top arm strenght but wasnt sure.

Alright get T.G is on the back burner and strengthing my inverts is in gahhh feels wierd going back to the beginning bit the more i progress in this sport the more i realise the sloppy techniques ive taught myself which need to be corrected!

Studio Veena, thanks heaps for the tip with the aieral.

Ive only just in the last couple of weeks after poling for a year been able to even lift into an invert or aieral even tho i can do most the standard advanced tricks… seems silly but for some reason my body just couldnt comprehend the rock back motion. So any tips and tricks to make life easier are more than welcome.

In regards to the twisted grip, should i just practice dead lifting? like getting the arm position and trying to hold my weight correctly for a couple of seconds.. should this help improve the strenght in my back?

since this video, ive been able to pretty much lift into a shoulder mount so i think i should have enough core hopefully and i know that its going to take about a million years for me to deadlift but i guess it that exersize helps with other aspects its worth it?

sorry for so many questions, its just every school teaches stuff so differently and what they say is the right and wrong thing to do! Also since iv started trying to Twisted grip i seem to have lost my abiility to just handspring which i nail easily >:| poling can be so frustrating sometimes lol

brilliant, ive just liked your page so thanks for the heads up!

in regards to the invert on the decent yes in the chopper is the most painful.

I have strong core and muscles but i also have a heavy set body with some extra weight which i think really hinders my sometimes… its like lifting an arse of led over my head so its a lot of pressure on my joints etc.

I have a pull up bar in my bedroom door which i try to do one or two everytime i go in and out of the door, and i just do a mix between mens push ups and woman push ups but thats about the extent of my outer pole activities.

Its definitely the rhomboid muscles as i've had problems before but never mention it specifically because people would have no idea what im talking about lol.

The pain i get is always primarily my left side, i also get this pain when i try to release out of an invert instead of bringing my legs onto the pole, its excrutiation no matter how much i rest is :S very bizzare.

Thanks for the Forum links and stuff, ill start looking into it. As i said i really want to start dead lifting and i hope training in that will help increase my shoulder/back strength :\

you dont need dry hands at all, i just like it because its the first grip i ever really used as ITAC2 is not meant for your hands just your body, it makes your hands actually sweat more.

Its like a liquid for in a bottle you shake it up put it on rub it in and it drys like a thin chalk layer, i guess similar to the method of gym chalk but obviously different!

hey guys this is my two cents worth from my exsperience and that of the students i had.

A few tricks i have learnt recently from a good friends is 1 buy a bar of parmolive green soap, its like ordinary bar of soap, wash the shit out of your hands with it and dry them before going on the pole, that with a touch of dry hands is the best thing ever. I did an entire performance which i was completely unfit for so i was sweating and i didnt have any problems with grip at all.

The soap technique works on the body too, i dont know what it does but its unreal the difference you have, students who have had perfuse sweating problems have tried it and it makes such a difference plus its like the cheapest thing ever and you can just get it from the grocery store.

A few other suggestions i have seen recently is, gymnastic olympians put honey on there hands and then chalk them up apparently its great and its something im definitely going to give a try as dry hands costs me a fortune.

When i do you a chalk based liqued i like to put it on my hand and then rub it up and down the pole, this seems to help too..

Recently thanks to Klause on here, he puts a pair of washing up rubber gloves on his hands and trains for 10 mins, he swears that he doesnt need grips after 10 mins when he takes them off due to the residue inside them reacting with his hands.

A few students like eco grip too ( me not so much i hate it) But honestly PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try washing your hands with that parmolive green soap bar, i cant believe the difference its made especially when tackling a 50mm pole!

this is going to sound crazy but you should by yourself this http://www.rmfscrubs.com/product.php?productid=411 parmolive green soap… it is actually a mircal worker. If you wash your hands with this and your body evven if its just before you get on a pole you will wee your pants at the difference.

My pole instructor discovered it.. i used it just before my first performance in front of people and i made it the whole way through without slipping once! this + dry hands you can't go wrong. My instructor had private students who no matter what they did they wouldnt stick and this has helped them. Also i like to put a little dry hands on my palms and while its still wet wipe it all over the pole! this helps too.

Ive also heard that if you cover your pole in itac 2 for 24 hours then rub it off its meant to help. My home xpole i have issues with aswell the studio ones are all scuffed up and old which really helps with grip. But before you waste money on a new pole please duck to the supermarket and pick up this soap!!!!! 🙂

Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone has any insight into what your require to open your own studio in Australia or teaching privately from home or at people houses.

As i mentioned in my blog the other day in england i was an assistant instructor but as my visa ran out i was unable to become a teacher. I really want to start  teaching privates back in aus and eventually open my own studio but the internet is not being helpful at all.

In england all i needed to be a teacher was my own ABN for self employment,  a music liscence, insurance and a exersize to music cert. I am unsure whether it is the same for aus or if i need to have pole teaching certifications etc?

Any insight would be great as i im trying to put my mind to good things atm !!! 🙂
