Personally I think qualifications don’t make the teacher (or pole instructor in this case). There’s are qualified teachers out there who are fab and there are unqualified who are equally as fab (and there’s bad instructors on both sides too). However if anyone thinks they would benefit from this sort of training then I say go for it, it’s down to the person themselves.
I don’t think I’d shell out on a training course, but then again I coached gymnastics for nearly ten years and I feel a lot of what I know does translate well to the pole.
I can only speak for the UK but to teach pole here you need a first aid certificate, insurance and a ppl license, that’s all that’s required. But like I said earlier, if you’d like to know a bit of A&P and biomechanics then maybe a pole qualification is the way to go for you.

Yeah, that girl has balls, seriously. I can’t say if I ever managed a Death Lay that that would be my dismount of choice https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
Glitterhips, congrats on that! Yeah just get comfortable, also you may want to try some "emergency exits" from the move, it may build your confidence. One time I misjudged where I needed to put the breaks on and wasn’t stopping in time so I put my hands on the floor, tucked my head in and rolled out

Congrats!
Sometimes it goes to show that we overthink moves too much sometimes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
Psst, Buterflii, check out the moves directory at http://www.wikipole.org it has a list of pole moves plus pictures/videos of them

I’ve watched the Kelly Kayne vid a couple of times in slow mo and she’s not really sliding like in a nose breaker (though that’s probably more to do with the pvc boots than anything else https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) her feet stay put until she releases them for the shoulder dismount. I aint trying that one, it’s scary! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
For the Nose Breaker try and get as high as you can up on your pole then slowly slide down, experiment with stopping yourself as you come down to the floor then from that you can speed it up and put your arms out to the side for effect. Just be careful when trying it for the first time on a different sized pole, a higher pole means more momentum can build up on the way down so you’d need to start the "brakes" slightly further from the floor than you would from a smaller pole.
There’s not really a trick to this one per se, it’s more a case of being comfortable with the slide and being able to judge when to squeeze your thighs together to stop. Once you’re happy with that then you can start to play around with the speed of the drop or where you want to be when you stop.
I once scared the hell out of some people by doing a really fast nose breaker and only stopping with my nose about three inches off the floor https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

As for the Cupid, one arm can be on the pole above the hooked leg as a basic cupid (one hand below the hooked leg is a Star), one arm can be holding onto the ankle/foot of the leg thats hooked or both arms can be free

Do you mean this move at 3.53 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-peZkuVosc&feature=PlayList&p=C7E59F3077401914&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=12
or this one

(I call that one the nose breaker, but I’ve also heard it called the death slide) -

MemberMarch 28, 2009 at 5:51 pm in reply to: A little something for the UK peeps to get excited about!I’ve spoken to Debs personally and like any pole that’s not secured at the top it will wobble. All stage poles wobble, the X-pole stage wobbles, but according to Debs apparently you don’t feel the wobbles (I’ve tried out an X-stage and couldn’t feel the wobbles but wtaching a vid of me, it did wobble). I haven’t personally tried these, so I can’t comment from a personal perspective but Debs will be touring with these after MPD Worlds in Jamaica so people can try before they buy so hopefully I’ll be able to give my verdict after that.
As for it being stainless, my favourite pole in the world, Jake (unfortunately he belongs to my instructor) is the grippiest thing I’ve ever come across and he is stainless steel.
I dunno, I’m just really excited over this as in the future I want to teach but there is a distinct lack of places with suitable ceilings round here, so if this pole is all it claims to be then it’ll be the one I’m going to get

Yep, the knee hold does hurt like the dickens, as others have already said make sure it’s not your knee cap on the pole and not your shin, more the side. It will hurt still, and the only thing to do will be practice. I can now hold it for ten seconds or more when previously 2 seconds had me jumping off and swearing, so it does get better!

I’m weird, I have my non-dom hand on top, it just felt a lot more comfortable for me than trying to invert on my "wrong" side to get my dom hand on top
-
Sorry to disappoint, but that one is currently known as the Knee swing.
I’ve been there before, have been convinced I had a new move and turns out someone beat me to it.
Several of the moves do have aka names though, for example when my instructor invented the Mercury, we also decided it should have a comedy name of Flash Gordon.
My aim for WikiPole is just to make sure people are aware of these alternate names rather than trying to get everyone to call a move the same thing

Lol, I forgot to pimp it on this thread. Thank you mrstrone for posting the link!
A spins catalogue and a dance transitions one are currently in the pipeline, so if you have any funky dance moves/steps that have names please get in contact

Aww no! On the plus side at least it wasn’t sent to your neighbours in a big box saying X-pole on the side – yep that happened to me, the neighbours have known me since I was a baby too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I don’t know what level you are at currently but my number one dvd recommendation is Jamilla’s Art of Pole series. It’s currently only available at her website http://www.artofpole.com and can be bought in 3 ways;
1) Full dvd set 1-5
2) Just dvd’s 1 and 2 (beginner/intermediate level)
3) Just dvd’s 3 – 5 (intermediate to advanced)(can also buy dvds separately but I figure you may as well get a set)
It’s an Australian website but does ship to the UK, I recently bought dvds 3-5 (i already had 1 & 2) and they arrived far quicker than I expected with no problems. I must say it’s the best dvd I’ve seen for breaking down moves.
For fun watching, the Miss Pole Dance Australia 2006 or 2008 is fabulous from a spectators point of view. And if you’re advanced or just fancy scaring yourself silly, Pantera’s Pole Tricks 101 is a must see.
I don’t personally own that many dvds so cant really recommend that many

I’ve been trying the cigarette thing and my booty isn’t popping (just the odd fat ripple https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif )
Is my booty defective? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
