I have these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WOMENS-PLEASER-ELECTRA-DX-PLATFORM-WHITE-BOOTS-SZ-4-4-5_W0QQitemZ170310892651QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWomen_s_Shoes?hash=item170310892651&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 and they are so secure for me I’d be happy handspringing in them (I don’t generally though for fear of knocking someone out on the way down lol). The platform combined with the chunky heel does give lots of stability. I never feel as secure with my thinner heels and that immediately limits me on what moves I’m happy doing in them

I have a Twitter profile but I don’t use it, a blogger friend of mine "bullied" me into signing up https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

For some reason spin names just don’t stick in my head. I can’t count the number of times people have told me/shown me what a Martini Spin is, but the next time I come across it I still go blank and wonder what a Martini Spin is https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

On B&P forum we were discussing a move called the Holly Drop, don’t currently have a vid but basically you go from Cupid, move the bottom foot off the pole and basically end up in a Flying Cupid or an Outside Leg Hang (Gemini or Scorpio). It was invented when someone accidentally fell out of the cupid.

Cupid can also go into a Hummingbird (which is a scary scary move). I imagine it can go into Banana Splits. Split heel is another possible one. Butterfly is possible if you put your upper hand on the pole below the hooked leg.

Hobbit is possible, so is the Extended Hobbit (but neither of them are pretty moves)

If you want photos, all these moves (barr the Holly Drop) can be found on the moves catalogue at WikiPole http://www.wikipole.org

Comments like that are from very ignorant, very immature people with no eloquence to speak of, we should pity the poor little trolls who obviously have nothing better to do with their time

Wow, that is going to be a competition and a half! There’s quite a few names I recognise and they are amazing dancers.

    I can answer 1 and 3.

    1) I have an artexed ceiling as well, and there shouldn’t be a problem with the pole though it may lead to bits of artex flaking off the ceiling. What I’ve done is put a nice thick piece of wood on to the ceiling and drilled it into the joists. So now I have a nice flat surface for my pole and the pressure is distributed across the two joists

    3) Grip aids! How I love them https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Although it’s best not to get dependent on them. Wiping the pole with a mix of water and alcohol helps to clean it and grippy it up. Washing hands with washing up liquid (the cheap stuff) will strip your hands of any sweat and grease. Steer clear of moisturiser if you are going on the pole that day. Now for grip aid, people prefer different ones. I find Dry Hands http://www.isplingerie.com/prodview.php?id_largeCat=1&id_prd=689 to be the best for me personally, as it’s grips really well without being tacky. But try a few. Some people like liquid chalk, or climbing chalk balls. Others like really tacky (as in sticky, not like Blackpool souvenirs) stuff like Surgrip or Stickum. It all boils down to personal preference.

I’m hoping to have a section on WikiPole http://www.wikipole.org soon to do with different grip aids and polers opinions on them. I’ll keep you posted

I think if you want to be able to adapt to different poles easier the chrome is probably the better option (like if you go pole class that has chrome or stainless poles). But if you have very sweaty hands then the titanium would be better. Just on a personal perspective, I have very sweaty hands and I can cope fine on a chrome (if I’m having a bad day out comes the grip aid) I have used titanium and it’s great initially, but I find once it gets a bit dirty it goes very very slippery (just personal experience – other people don’t seem to have that problem).

Both of these moves petrified me for ages, and I’m still not happy with them to tell the truth. The CKR was fine after I realised I wasn’t going to fall on my head and once the pain subsided. The CAR I found much more painful for some reason and steered clear of it for quite a while
