Every time I talk to someone about starting pole, they always say they wouldn't be able to lft themselves or can't lift their body weight etc, and I always tell them that nobody ever can when they start out! It took me 2 months to be able to lift up a little bit and I am stronger than the average according to my teacher. If you stress about it it will just become a scary issue for you, so don't worry. Just be reassured that it is a very rare bear who can lift themselves early on, and usually I would guess they were weight lifters or something if they could, lol! There is nothing wrong with you, all you need is to cut yourself a break and give yourself the time to develop that upper body strength!

I always learn stuff on both sides, but I find when not inverted one side is stronger and when inverted the other side is, but it is not a huge difference to tell the truth. Most people find that if they are right handed their right hand is stronger, but this is not a hard and fast rule.

No, Melbourne. He is coming late April I think from memory, he is scheduled to be in the country for almost a month and will be in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and I think maybe Perth, I don't really remember, I was just excited that Melbourne was in there. I just have to figure out when and where now, lol!

Polefitfanatic, I am sooo excited because Badazz is coming to Australia in the next couple months, all I have to do is to figure out where to go see him. He was putting a call out to studios for places to do workshops but since my studio removed my suggestion from the suggestions page that we do it I can only assume he wont be appearing there 🙁

I like Josiah 'Badazz' Grant because of his ability to make everything look so sinuous and fluid which male dancers just can't manage. For female dancers I like Jamilla Deville. She just has a dignity about her work that really appeals to me, not to mention the fact that she is amazing.

I once kicked my dog in the head as he wandered in front of me in the middle of practicing a routine right when I was doing a fan kick. The sound of platform heel contacting with beagle head was decidedly unpleasant, but he learned not to walk near the pole when I am on it, and considering he doesn't learn anything normally(not the brightest of dog, although we love him very much, lol), it really must have hurt him too, although he showed no sign that it had at the time.

The sparks the microwave makes from all that metal inside are also very pretty as a bonus!

A square mat has corners that you have to avoid when stepping near or around the pole whereas a round mat is the same all the way round, or that is how I feel about it anyway.

We had it happen first time I put my pole up. My son was a little too energetic in his pole play and the pole although placed under a beam, was not properly centered there. We found exactly where the beam was and marked it, but we also go a large piece of foam about 3/4 inch thick, glued it to a board, placed the board on the ceiling(having of course marked where the beam was through it)and then put the pole up. This has left no marks from the dome or anything else. We pained the board the same colour as the ceiling so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

If the studio doesn't have their poles up and IF the club is closed at the audition time it could totally be legit.

Nothing silly about being proud of an achievement! Congratulations!

MemberFebruary 16, 2011 at 4:35 am in reply to: how to excuse your hubby from your pole sessionsOh, I sooo get this one! I feel uncomfortable practicing moves and learning them in front of him. I don't mind practicing routines but working on stuff I can't do properly yet I just don't feel comfortable with with him watching. He seems to take it as his right to do so and I just don't like working on stuff I really can't do with anyone watching, and when he is sitting there almost leering at me sometimes, there is no way I can work on stuff that I am uncomfortable with because I can't do it yet!! Not sure if it is because I don't want to look foolish or if I don't want to ruin the picture that he seems to have in his head that either I am really good or really sexy when I dance by repeatedly messing up a new move in front of him. He seems to take it as a personal insult if I suggest he leaves the room though. He says it is his 'right' to be there, he is just watching, etc etc. MEN!!

You'll be fine, just give it a good tug with both hands before you use it every time to make sure nothing has slipped to be sure. Happy poling!! I just got a new brass X-Pole(got lucky and won one, yay!!) and am waiting for renovations to be finished so I can put it up and get back in the swing of things. A class once a week just isn't the same as regular practice at home!!

for those saying the valentino bros dvds are for the advanced, I don't really agree. What they show you is what you are aiming for, I don't think you are expected to actually get it like they do first up! The exercises they do are the same ones pretty much as my studio teaches and there is always some variation in how well you do them as you progress. If you look at them and think that is what you should look like straight out of the gate you will be disappointed. I am not advanced, and I use their methods and see real improvement. I am nowhere near looking like they do in their extensions, but I am getting there.

I think it is normal, but if you grab it with both hands and give it a good shake and pull on it as hard as you can before you use it and it doesn't fall down you should be fine. Congrats on the new pole btw, is it one of the X-pole brass valentine ones?
