Thanks, Veena, you are so awesome. My first success with forearm grip came with pretending I was going to elbow and switching last minute. I have felt a little wobbly lately, but based on your advice I think I will go back to focusing on that strong connection in the elbow pit to maintain better security in the move.

There are people who get split grip first. I think it might even be a little common among former gymnasts. I have known girls who went for twisted first to have lots of success only to disappear from class for months shortly afterwards so I would listen to the caution that everyone puts out there about that.

I don’t have a very good right side up elbow grip but it a miraculous thing that works for me when inverted. If you try it, you may find it is easier than you think. I find forearm grip a little more challenging than elbow. There was another thread on here where lots of people agreed with that I think.

I agree that after you give your body a nice rest it is likely that your invert will be stronger than ever.

If you feel like you are still struggling after an appropriate amount of rest, one thing that normally works for me is to retrain myself by going back to basics on moves. Sometimes I find that I tend to over rely on certain muscle groups after I have done a move for a while and going back to basics helps me think more critically about all the muscles involved in a move. If you are a visual person a video of yourself doing the moves then vs. now might also help.

Also have you considered how much you may be working your muscles during your flexibility sessions? Flexibility is my weakest area, but I find it can be quite exhausting to my muscles. Before I really started thinking critically about my flexibility, I think I underestimated how a strong opposing muscle contributes to the ability of another muscle to lengthen.

I was also worried before I got my Ellies about all these supposed differences in the brands. I wear size 6 and putting my shoes side by side can’t tell a difference in them. I am glad I did not listen to the internet which told me to size up in the Ellies, but maybe I got lucky. I only have one pair.

They are a bit heavier though. It might be because I don’t dance in heels that much that I don’t mind that, and it helps me remember to engage through my legs which I have trouble with sometimes. My Ellies come from Glitter Heels, and they have all the features you are looking for in a pole shoe. I accidentally bought a pair of Pleasers on Amazon once that weren’t meant to be the dance type. Now that was a mistake. (Lacked the padding and nonslip rubber on the bottoms.)

I enjoy having a 40 and am glad I have it. The biggest drawback is probably that when I am practicing for a performance, I don’t get the same confidence as when I am practicing on a 45 since there are minor adjustments that one makes for the size of the pole. I also wish my Pole Aria fit on it.

I was worried about the leg grip thing too when I got it. For things like leg hangs it wasn’t an issue. Cross ankle release and elbow grip ayesha I was a little afraid to try at first because it just felt like the pole wasn’t really there. Once I got over my mental hangups it wasn’t an issue though. I absolutely love the pole for hand grip based tricks, and I find it easier to learn on the 40. I find that these skills transfer well to the 45 after I learn them on the 40. My biggest skill based problem with the 40 is not over gripping in one handed spins.

So I know I am late on this, but I had to give another shout out in the ‘you are not alone in this camp.’ For certain tricks the only thing that gets me out of it is having someone I trust around for me, and I am sorry that you haven’t found someone to do that for you. Maybe travel or finding a gymnast you can convert would be options? 😉 If not, I have found that going into a practice session with the intent to focus on basics really helps me a lot. I feel strong and confident. Plus I build muscles that give me confidence to try something harder later. At the end of the day though, I will always be thankful for Veena for giving me permission to realize that I am in this for my enjoyment and not to be a professional athlete so it is okay that I not do certain tricks if they are not for me whatever the reason.

Layback was my first entry. Love it.

Several low options. Back up the pole like a candlestick hook to brass monkey stand up. Go down as if to handstand with one hand on the pole but let leg hit pole behind the knee.

Also don’t know if you want to count the derivatives of the moves already mentioned- like instead of straight edge, handspring entry.

January 14, 2017 at 12:32 pm in reply to: Sport Period Panties?

They were on my mind for a while after seeing this thread, and I finally bought three pairs a couple months back. I an on seasonal BC so I am preparing for my second period with them and am thinking about buying another couple of pairs so I don’t have to worry about rinse and dry. So I guess you can tell that I loved them. Once I got over the initial fear about whether or not they would work, I was finally able to have a period where I was really comfortable that my clothes were protected.

For my second go with them, I think I might still use a tampon or something else on my heavier days although I think I could probably get away without it. For the lighter days near the end though where I am sick of having to have something for little leaks it was dreamy to have the feeling I was just in underwear without worrying about shifting panty liners or other nonsense heavier than what I needed.

I wish I could be more helpful on size. My pole shorts are all different sizes. I have some small Bad Kitty shorts, but I never wear them because I am uncomfortable with so much hanging out, so I plan on getting mediums if I ever buy more. I took mediums in Thinx and loved the fit.

I used the guidelines that Pole and Aerial gives for their Pole Flight Pro product. Definitely agree with their advice on going slightly longer rather than shorter.

I bought online from Aerial Essentials and was quite happy with them.

I have a pole aria, and I am very happy with it. I don’t know enough about the other brands to have a real opinion on best though. Maybe someone with more experience/knowledge will have some feedback.

Having seen both the DVDs and Veena’s lessons, I have to say- if you really are going DVD then yes jamilla is about as comprehensive as you can get, but if you are really looking to go the extra mile on pole progression I think the lessons here are a better bet. Art of pole is great in the DVD world because it exposes you to a large variety and progression of moves. For me I am not a natural and have needed more strength training and deeper explanations to help me get over those proverbial humps which is what veena has when you look at the variety of her offerings and her quality of explanations.

Really? I thought it was fun with or without the kiss. I liked their energy, and it was fun seeing some synchronized pole moves. A little doubles would have been the cherry on top yeah, but for a short cameo piece I appreciated it for what it was. As for shock factor, I guess two women kissing really just isn’t that shocking to me.

I am a regular (lurker) here, but your post compelled me to reply for the first time. My friend and I both traded in our first poles (TG 45 xpole) for 50 chrome Xperts. We bought the titanium golds because of the rave reviews that they get, but we both found out that just because it works well with someone else’s body chemistry does not mean it will work well for you. We both stuck with our poles for a long time before making the trade but saw immediate results with the new poles. That said, I ended up switching to 45 chrome, and that is my new favorite.
