OH my God YES, I relate to your story!

I miss being all capricious and whimsical and unstructured and say-yes-to-anything and "jazz like". Now I have to cook/prepare ALL my meals, and carry all those meals with me in tupperware if i'm going to be on the move (allergies). Plus a lot of cleaning and laundry, and bills, bills BILLS, and budgeting for repairs and dealing with really unhelpful people within my compay and less than pleasant clients, and everything must be in google calendar or i will forget it and then go to bed early, wake up and do it all AGAIN. I feel like a marching band, not jazz anymore.

But pole does give me back that spark. It's a way to express myself at the end of the day. It's something i think about in between emails. I'll sit there and think "oh, THAT song" and maybe "if i do ___ and then ___ maybe it'll look dancy" (it rarely does, but i persevere 😉 ). I can be in the office listening to someone dressed much better than me and being paid a lot more than me giving try and blame me for something and think "my theighs can support my body weight on a 50mm chrome pole, so there!" and deal with them calmly. it gives me confidence.

I'm not going to lie to you, it could be anything you do that's just for you. it could be music classes, another dance class, amature theatre or improv, scuab diving…but for me pole is something i can do at home in my own time without needing a dance partner and is much cheaper (just veena subscription for a year + one time payment of pole) than other stuff i'm interested in with would need travel or other people, or payment per lesson.

I use my steam cleaner on my pole after i've done the floors, surfaces etc and it works great at cleaning the pole. I also use plain old windex as well in between.

Where is your pole being kept? It it'a in the kitchen (often the biggest room in some places) then it'll get a lot more grease on it.

Are you cleaning it before each practise and in between moves?

Awesome! I'm currently attempting to follow veena's "booty" lessons and really want to be able to do this! I guess I need tighter core, well I can work on that!

I just love how it almost looks as if their asses are spinning between up/ down, like a one armed bandits rolling parts.

    Thanks for sharing!

I love this topic! I'm answer before reading other peopl's replies so i don't get too influenced from saying what comes to mind first.

    1) Rum. Need I say more?

    2) My fish! I <3 their wiggly little tails! Even when they drive me nuts with all their maladies and fighting.

    3) My job. I have a stable, very relaxed work environment with GREAT managers who never make me feel bad about needing time off. I could earn more elsewhere i guess but i'm sure i'd never luck out so much in terms of good work culture.

    4) Getting my driving license. yay! i can go to places not on bus routes!

    6) Finding a great Doctor.

    7) things improving between my boyfriend and me.

    8) my knit group! i love those girls! Everyone has their own challenges and deals with it in a totally kickass, dignified, inspiring way.

    9) blogs & the internet, for giving me all the yummy allergy free recipes, domestic and cookery how-to's, youtube and veena! I cannot imagine my life without it!

    Hi Miss Devious,

I'm a beginner too, and just working through the begginer moves on Veena's lessons. It might be that while your arms are strong it's your grip that's a bit weak. Just enjoy dancing and doing the beginner transitions and strength building. My focus right now is just on building strength, grip and being able to dance and do transitions, so when i'm at the pole trick stage I can make it look good =) I've been doing it for about a month now and am seeing huge improvements without really feeling like i tried too hard because it's been fun enough that I've wanted to do it. 🙂 take care! xxxx

Yeah, that was my fear, that some little hacker out there was getting his skillz  leveled up on veena. We've had similar problems at hosted blogs at work.

I really support the move away from GoDaddy for multiple reasons. 😉

adAstra, I got my epilator after doing a lot of research on the no!no! Basically you have to use it everyday alonside shaving for a year before the hairs get thinner. :/ I figured I could epilate for a few months and get that effect. Or, if your skin and hair are compatible, go the IPL route.

Lizzie, mine is the Braun one. ‘Which’ magazine said it did hurt more, but they reckoned it was because it pulled more hairs in the first pass than the Philips. I highly recommend it!

Marie, I have a waterproof one but personally find it grips better on dry skin/hair. It’s nice as an option, though.

I never thought I’d say this but I’m really in love with my epilator! I’m dark skinned, so IPL won’t work for me (will hurt skin and not hair..boo!) and the epilator I have can grab much smaller hairs down 1.5mm. It doesn’t always grab them at that size, but it’s good enough to use on shaving stubble without needing to wait days. I really love it for simplicity and making body hair (and I’m of middle eastern decent…so there’s a lot of it) something I only need to think about once a week.
