I think it depends on the prerogative of the owners of the competition. Most competitions have two divisions one for women and one for men for that purpose… But it is also very interesting to mix it up…. I think it's great. Maybe there should be a competition all about men competing against women like a dance off. Something more about entertainment value rather than just tricks. I look forward to seeing where Derick Pierson places in Denver being the only male. If he won that could stir some controversy. But he would deserve it if the judges made that choice.

@Angel Im so sorry I didn't know that! I will definitely mention your program in the future… I believe it is VERY important that an organization like ACE and AFFA approve of a teacher training, it adds weight to your program and is very important when it comes to liability and professionalism.

I want to be as polite as I can when sharing this story with you all. I did the X-Pert training and I enjoyed every minute of the class, instruction, and practice teaching time. It was worth every dime. I realized after the first two hours that I had NEVER really climbed properly or trained my body to economize power on the pole! Now I could climb all day and never get tired. Kyra Johannesen, Marlo Fisken, Steven Retchless, Roland Brown, all use these training tecnuques and methods for performing, and I wanted to learn from the best dancers I could.

Also the safety and proper spotting methods are ridiculously important. How to build a class plan that is not haphazardly leading a class without a goal. How to know when a student is ready to progress to more challenging moves.

I took a class after I finished my training and I could see the difference between myself and an instructor who had not been formally trained. A girl came to an open pole class, and it was her second or third class, she could not do a full pole crunch, after a half hour the teacher was trying to get her to invert, after an hour she was trying to explain leg hangs. I cringed because after learning about foundational strength training, progression of movements, and proper spotting techniques (which she was never spotted) I could see this girl was frustrated by the end of the class and might never come back. I bit my tongue. Yes the teacher was a good dancer, but she lacked the tools to perform a safe and effective class.

A lot of time and effort is put into a certification course, X-Pert is the only pole certification recognized by both ACE and AFFA. EVERY group exercise instructor in every studio should have their CPR training. Finally from a liability point of view, If I owned my own studio I would require a certification from all of my instructors regardless of where they trained OC or wherever. If their was an accident and a student became injured and decided to press charges against me I could show the judge that myself and my instructors are trained professionals. That changes options in a court of law.

@Theo, hun I am not being rude, but if you are affraid of your instructors teacher better than you, or bringing diversity to your studio, you must be extremely insecure in yourself. If I were you I would be the first person to get certified and require all your instructors to get certified by the same program so you are all on the same page.
