glad to see your enthusiasm! Brand is important because there are a lot of cheap imitation poles out there that are not safe to do actual tricks on (four best brands are X-pole, Platinum stages, Lil Mynx, and Pole Danzer). I'm a college student as well but I used some of my loan money to get a Titanium gold x-pole because its so worth the money. You could always try to buy a used pole off of someone on here or craigslist. The metal determines the grippiness. If you are someone who is a heavy sweater like me, I would lean towards titanium because its designed to be grippier. Size depends on what you would prefer to do more on. If you are looking for more leg tricks, go with the 50. If you want to be able to do suspensions off of the pole, the smaller the pole the easier it is. I like 45 because its a happy medium but each person has their own size and finish preference.

have you shown him videos of professionals and articles on the benfits of pole dancing?? my dad doesnt want m performing in front of an audience either but my bf is cool with it cuz he knows at the end of the day, hes the one that gets to come home with me. if you've tried educating him and he is still being stubborn about it, then you gotta ask yourself, how badly do I want to perform and post videos? if its not a big deal then stay with him. but if it is and he's not willing to support you, then ditch him. you can find someone else who's proud of what you can do.

I let her have it Lyme! I love how she hasnt replied since we all told it to her like it is

I started learning on a 50 but bought a 45 for my home because the 50 was too big for my hands. When in doubt, its better to have a pole thats on the smaller side because then you can still do hand grip stuff and feel secure, at least thats my reasoning for it. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who bought a 45 ahead of me so i could try it out. I didnt get to try any finish other than chrome but I went with the titanium gold x-pole and dont regret it at all!

Ceilings are weird like that. I have a popcorn ceiling as well but so far I havent seen any cracks. Have you been overtightening your pole?

Since they are stages they look ok but you don't get a choice of pole size (diameter) or finish. I also dont think they come with spinning mode and there is only one picture of someone doing an upside down move on the pole and no one is doing an big spins. If I were you, I'd stick with the trusted brands (x-pole, Platinum stages, Lil mynx, or Pole Danzer).

I may plan to compete later on in life but for now I don't have the time, other than for the competitions my studio does which are low key and everyone wins something

Same with me, if i'm tired, my hands do not wanna grip that pole. The skinny poles at the park were my favs because I had the strongest grip with them. I dont feel safe doing stuff like the extended butterfly on a 50 cuz my hands won't stay closed.

I'd say that for only having done it for 6 months, you are doing really well!

I'm an undergrad avian science major (also prevet) studying at UCD. Right now, I'm just trying to survive the rest of college. I have two jobs. One involves waking up at 7 am everyday (even weekends) and driving to an avian facility to count quail eggs for the bird birth control project that we are doing. I just got another job and I'm working in a lab that does a ton of research for wound healing and eye problems. I mostly do office stuff for them but soon I will be trained to work with a laser and help with the animals in our projects. after college, I have no idea what I'm doing til i get into vet school but maybe i'll get a job as a pole instructor!

I have a similar problem except I can get up into an invert but it just feels so wrong. I can't do any inverted moves on that side

You just gotta push through it. the first few sessions are the hardest and your arms will scream at you the next day but its so worth it. I started pole as a 5'5" 175lb woman and I'm down to 163 right now. I couldn't climb at all my first day but I could do the spins since I did some of them as a kid so I was used to the concept of them. While I've still got 33 lbs to go pole has helped a ton. If you just push past the sore muscles and bruises for the first bit of it, you will find spins, climbs, and holds get easier. to get the x-pole out of spin mode, make sure the two screws at the bottom are lined up with the two x's on the base plate. if you don't do this, the pole will shift and possible pound the x-joint out of place like it did with mine (that was also cuz i didnt tighten the x-joint properly).

They have a video on their website that I watched while putting my pole together and it was super easy. in all honesty, the hardest part for me was finding the stud in the ceiling because I have one of those nasty popcorn ceilings so the stud finder doesn't slide across smoothly.

I swear saw an upside pole in a craigslist ad as well. the instructions clearly say it goes on the ceiling
