I love the support here! I started pole when I was 41 with no dance background. (My weekly exercise was window shopping) 🙂 At times I get discouraged, but I had to remind myself that Greta Is admirable but she is also a national gymnastics champion and a national martial arts title holder when she was younger. Unless I’m willing to work 2-3 hours a day on flexibility, I won’t get the splits like hers. So, I guess I’ll just have to settle for no splits for me! lol…

I have the platinum stages single piece 38mm and I love it for handsprings and stuff. Thigh holds are challenging tho.

I have a 38mm with pole sleeve and it’s as big as a 45mm. If I would do it again, I would just get the pole coated since it’s not that easy to put on/off the sleeve so it might as well be permanent.

  • Shoulder mount! My back keeps getting stuck on the pole and I can’t seem to be able to roll over and up. So instead of going up like a chopper then a pencil, I just hold a u shape with the pole. It’s so frustrating.

hmmm…since we are outing our age…I’m 44 and been learning pole for 2yrs+. I would consider myself a slow learner. I’m no where close to my splits, my straddle is like a capital V. My joints crack and shoulder hurts. However, I don’t think the ability to pole rests upon body type. It’s not a built dependent sport? Nothing like I’m too short for basketball, too big for gymnastic, etc. There are no such limitations on pole. Each person has their own moves. I cannot get any spins right for the longest time. Even now my spins are horrible. However, I find my liberation comes from not thinking or worrying about what to do next when dancing, but just the dancing itself. The moves will follow when I let myself go. Not sure how it works but it worked for me. I do compare myself with others at times, but I remind myself that I am me, this is my hobby, and I’m darn sure I can do things that not everyone can do! Then daydream about deadlifting up to iron-x…. 🙂

Yes, if anyone has any experience with Writhe, please let me know. It's a little ways out for me and would like to see how it might be before I make the hike out there.  Thanks!

I have Felix'.  I only went through the first 2 so here are my 2 cents.  It is not as instructional as Veena's lessons.  The moves are not broken down in as much details, and there are few 'take note' remarks.  I find myself going back and going back to see what just transpired.

Thanks Saphyre. Oh no no no!  Pole no more than 3 days a week?  I do it almost everyday!  Classes 3 days  a week and I try to practise at home when I don't have classes.  There are so many many holds, moves that I wanted to learn,  it's like I'm playing catch up.  I have just bought the joint supplement from Animal that echo234 recommended, hopefully that will help.  I will now try to follow step 2-7.  You guys are AMAZING!  so darn AMAZING!

It’s encouraging but how do you deal with the joint pains and inflexibility which gets in the way? I have to wear wrist brace, elbow brace, ankle brace, and my doctor is running out of brace to put me in. 🙁

    Hi Lyme,

I do have the lessons.  I tried working on them but no go.  I will keep on.    🙂

My goodness!  I usually feel uneasy that I was always the oldest in pole class and have no idea that this community is so supportive!  I've started pole about a year ago and never did any kind of exercise before.  I am absolutely not flexible, and no matter how much I try, still not flexible.  However, I can now climb the pole.  🙂

Still trying to do handstand, don't even know where the leverage comes from…how do you raise your legs up?

All of your guys are AMAZING!
