I’m a vegetarian and when I can find them I like Primal Strips (faux jerkey). The mesquite lime and Thai peanut flavors are amazing; the others I don’t really care for.

No they don’t hurt, and yes the straps break!

  • Overtraining and bulking up are two different issues.

It’s not uncommon to notice changes in your body in the beginning. You’re probably an “easy gainer” (muscle in this case, not fat). I wouldn’t worry because it will plateau unless you are specifically doing things to bulk up. (although I’ve never dealt with anyone who got stretch marks from natural muscle building; that sounds extreme.)

Overtraining isn’t like “oh I’m gaining too fast,” it’s like “I’m training and training and training and not gaining/improving, wtf?” and sometimes it just turns out that you’re pushing too hard, not giving your body & mind the recovery they need.

So if you’re seeing success, you’re probably not overtraining per se. Just an easy gainer-lucky you! 🙂

Sure! I used to be in a band myself. (Technically I still am, except now I live half a continent away from them.) Hard rock is fabulous to pole to. Lots of moments for hard throws & drops, or at least hair tosses. Classic favorites among dancers are Enter Sandman and Du Hast, though on the Rammstein end of things I always liked Te Quiero Puta. 🙂

A friend of mine (from the music world but coincidentally also a poler) bought a laser hair removal system and made a hilarious video of herself trying it out:

I dunno what her final verdict was, but it's pretty funny to watch!

Oh yeah–I wrote a studio review, so you can see my whole experience there.

I did a drop-in Open Pole class at Flirty Girl once. It was really fun! Nice place.

Nothing wrong with using both, if you decide to branch out. 🙂 There's some overlap, but you can use them for different things.

I covered both Fitocracy and LiveStrong in a magazine article I wrote (which is how I got started on Fitocracy). LiveStrong is good for people who are trying t lose weight, as you can log your food and water, and the exercise is cardio-centric. Fitocracy is good for real fitness enthusiasts and gym rats. You don't log your food, but you log how many sets of what exercise you did at what weight. But you can log pole dancing as a cardio exercise; it is one of the exercise options you can select. You just put how long you did it and estimate your intensity level. So overall, Fitocracy is geared more specifically towards working out, whereas LiveStrong is more an overall diet and (general) exercise aid.

Welcome! I just moved to the Chicago area last year. I'm slightly on the taller side, but have had both tall and short students. Small hand size can be an issue, but the good news is you have more space to work with. Tall students always have to worry about kicking something or bumping into the ceiling. 🙂

I’m going to be going after all, as I was asked to cover the event for Vertical Art and Fitness. Would anyone from Chicago like to carpool? I’m leaving Friday daytime and coming back Saturday night after the ceremonies. My car or yours, just want someone to split the gas with. 🙂

"Sorry, Jesus. Blush is for women only."

    LOL!

@emotioncatcher I am dying to move back to Germany (was only there for 3 months), if I ever make it happen we can start a club. 🙂

  • I started using this when I moved in September. Have not had any loosening. It is pretty solid! Hope you get it figured out!
