Pippi is my stage name, because I have reddish pigtails and superhuman strength. Still working on that treasure chest full of gold….

@polefitness, try to think of breathing into your back and your sides and see if that helps. It's hard to get a good abdominal breath when you're all stretched and bent like that, but you can expand in other directions (laterally and posterially). Not as satisfying as a deep upright breath, but better than feeling pinched off.

Interviews and audition processes will vary widely from studio to studio. But almost all will expect some sort of demonstration, whether it's showing your own moves, teaching something, or both. You'll need pole clothes for that. Showing up to a teaching interview without poling clothes would be like showing up to an office interview without your resume.
Unless of course they specifically say you won't be expected to do anything physical. But even then, don't forget what they always say about an interview being a two-way street. If you feel comfortable asking, you might want to ask if you can try out their poles. Different studios use different equipment, and you want to make sure you feel comfortable and safe on their apparatuses. (And it's just fun to play around on a new jungle gym!)

My rules are "get a dance belt" and "You are responsible for your own peepee." (I.e., Keep in mind that I can't intuit your anatomical concerns.)

Basically it's things like shoulder circles and back arches and stuff you're probably doing in your warm-ups anyways, but you can make a whole long routine of them to do on alternating days instead of the hardcore muscle stretching you've been doing!

MemberNovember 14, 2011 at 2:07 pm in reply to: Pure Splits: stretching for flexibility when you’re sore from stretching for flexibilityYou might consider alternating muscle stretching days (what it sounds like you're doing now) with joint mobility days. That's what I've been doing lately. It tends to not be so hard on the muscles, so it's a good way to keep working on flexibility every day without wearing yourself out.

Wow, what a small world! I'll have to message you my real name so you can tell Dr. Rose I say hi. π
-
You can find me as PippiPole; I'm in both pole groups.
-
There's already a pole group, it's called Order of the Black Garter. Annoyingly indirect I know, but probably more friendly-like not to set up a competing group.

Yay, so many new polers to play with! It'll be really informative to see each others' training routines.
