Practice basic moves and work on strengthening your wrists… like doing push-ups and wrist curls. It def. hurts everywhere when you first start dancing. I was surprised at the muscles I had never used until I poled… I was sore for a day or two.

I am subscribed to her vids too and I am had to pick up my jaw from the floor after seeing that. Super cool DVD and I hope to be able to buy it someday to learn from it.

I really like the idea of her pole dancing being mixed with the chair dancers. It was a super cool performance and I want to see it live!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

Oh girl, don’t think that only we hate our bodies. Men as just exposed to formulas of what their gender is supposed to be as we are. Everything from being told "Don’t cry" as a kid to the choices film producers make to put the "fat guy" in comedic roles whereas the "hunk" gets to be in action movies. I think it comes down to the fact that men don’t vocalize their body rejections. You don’t hear many men go, "Do I look fat in this?" but you KNOW they are asking it in their heads. You know when they see some 6-pack hunk on the cover of Men’s Fitness that they want to look "like that". Why else do they stare at themselves when they are at the gym? I just hope this makes you feel better because I don’t want you to think us gals are alone.
And I loved your letter… I could totally relate to some points. I think I need to make one for my body….

Your body is fighting back because it isn’t used to all the changes. It thinks that you are "starving" yourself and its natural defense is to slow down your metabolism. And so you start flat lining. If you just keep doing all the workouts and eating right your body will eventually "give up" and you’ll start losing weight again. Everyone is different of course but that is the general rule.
For an online diet/healthy lifestyle journal I recommend SparkPeople.com. You can track your nutrition and see down to the last mineral that you ate in a day. It can create a strength training regimen for you or you can just track your workouts. They incorporate a lot of "lifestyle" tips and goals and not just weight loss. The website tries to look at all aspects of a person’s life that contribute to healthy living. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I highly recommend checking out all the fab workout DVDs on NetFlix (if you have it). They have everything from Yoga to Karate to KT Coates Vertical Dance DVDs! And I would also recommend the library.

Welcome to the group. StudioVeena a great place for info and new friends. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Sorry about the Peek-A-Boo! Are you thinking about replacing it with something else?
We are active duty and residing in Deutschland. A few of my hubby’s coworkers know about my pole; I guess he just couldn’t keep it to himself! And of course with all his PT he can just lift himself no problem and I’m still building my triceps! haha

My moms having a little trouble accepting that she can’t control everything about my life anymore . . I’m sure that she, in the future, will learn to accept my interests.I confessed to my mom about pole dance tonight. Of COURSE she took it the wrong way and there was total silence from her end. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif She told me to not tell her anything about it and not to make a "career" out of it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif Yes m’aam! Hahaha, my mom is just so old-fashioned and I sometimes think it is better not to tell her some stuff. But I don’t want to keep things from her. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Yeah well people who work out too much and eat too little end up being sick. That is just not a healthy thing to do.

I have been tracking my calories for years now so I didn’t want to miss out on tracking pole dancing. Most calorie blogs don’t have pole dancing listed though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif And even if I burn less calories later the fact is that I’m still burning calories and any sort of exercise boosts up your metabolism. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
