I started teaching about a month ago (someone requested I give them lessons), but I only do private lessons right now 1-2 hours a week. I don't have the time in my schedule (work FT, college at night, bowling on a league, going to the gym) to do it very often. I've had a lot of interest and unfortunately had to postpone being able to teach others until this semester ends.  My husband said I should open a studio, but again, no time (so then he suggested I just be behind the scenes, but there aren't enough people local to hire on that would be able to instruct). When there is a more universal certification out there, I intend to go through the process of becoming certified. 🙂

    Good luck!

I've learned to accept my boobs small size because of so many smaller chested pole dancers lol. I figure I fit in well when it comes to that. I've been an A cup for as long as I can remember, but would LOVE to be a B. That grow-til-25 theory is something I never heard, but wouldn't doubt, because I have noticed my boobs have gotten a bit bigger in the last 6 years or so (I'm 24 now, but also could have been from hormonal BC) Maybe one day I'll make it to that B!

I think seeing so many smaller-sized pole pros helped me become more confident with a chest I used to hate.

Usually wear a thong underneath, but on occasion will go without also. Depends on the shorts I'm wearing and how confident I am that they are covering the right places!

It WAS absolutely amazing! Natasha really earned 1st place, her performance was breathtaking and received a standing ovation from many people. Such strength, grace, and creativity. Karol and Mina were also among my favorite sets! There were a lot of great performances in the pro division and some I wasn't all that amazed with. Seeing Alethea and Jenyne perform was also completely awesome! I never saw either of them dance in person and am always in awe watching their videos. I hadn't even known about Jenyne being there until surfing FB waiting for the pro division to start and seeing Alethea's status update about Jenyne getting ready, then looking at the program again to believe it 🙂

Even the amateurs were incredible to watch. Nadia was my favorite, she had some awesome moves and her music was perfect for the routine. Loved the chair incorporation, and I'm not usually a fan of chair/floor. I thought most of the amateur performances were pretty awesome. If they were "amateur", I feel like a day 1 beginner for sure.

After party was a giant flop with it being moved from place to place to place. Paid for it , but didn't go to it – I had a better "after party" elsewhere so it worked out in the end, but heard a lot of people were disappointed in that part of the weekend.

I think its safe to say I will probably attend again next year. (I also say I'm going to try and enter it for amateur as a goal of mine for the '12 comp, except after seeing the show, I dont have a chance in the world!)

I saw one of those at a novelty shop when looking for shoes … my friend and I started laughing at it and how unstable it looked! They had it zip-tied to one of their shelving pieces so I couldnt gauge how useless it'd be for real pole.

I wont be getting there that early – driving up from Charleston Thursday (12 hr drive from here to where I'm staying in NJ), then taking the train to NYC a couple hours before the amateur show on Friday.

I'll be cheering loudly for Karol! I've met and learned from her many times now, and she is just such a wonderful woman, and absolutely amazing with pole. I really hope she can take the title this year <3 I will be in the 3rd row, jaw to the floor watching so much talent on one stage I'm sure!

I saw Rebecca Starr just arrived in Korea today, and said she is bummed to not be at USPDF according to her FB. She has some amazing talent as well!

    April 20, 2011 at 7:03 pm in reply to: 45mm or 50mm?

I started with a stainless PS pole (50mm). Just bought a 45mm TG Xpole. Only downside of the TG is the inability to use iTac (seems to make the TG more slick in my experience!) I'm probably going to miss my stainless PS when I take it down (re-doing the room). I got a killer deal on the TG pole and 45mm works great for my cartwheels, handsprings, and twisted grips in consistency because its easier to grip hand-wise. I prefer 50mm for leg grips. I want a 50mm chrome to add and be able to swap poles, but gotta work on my hubby on that one lol.

I do find TG poles to be easier to grip off the bat, but trying to find something to wipe them down with without making them slick has been tough. My friend found that a glass cleaner actually works the best so far!

I've been on and off considering them. I think if I have a video telling me how to stretch, I may just do it more often LOL. Thanks for the review! 🙂

Being able to do 1 handed spins on both sides was the "pre-requisite" to move to intermediate at the old studio I went to. So probably about a 4-6 weeks for me before I started doing 1-handers, It definitely requires confidence in grip!

  • I was definitely disappointed in this. Even my husband was like "Uh, that's it? You and Samantha (my pole partner) could have gone on there and done a more impressive performance." I got facebook comments telling me my friends liked my moves better, which was what I hoped I wouldn't hear – instead I wanted them to say something like "Wow, are you able to do that? That was awesome!"

I understand the song was a tough one to dance to … I tried dancing to it a week earlier (and am challenging myself to make a video in the near future to it). But I find if people are doing some "wow" moves, the audience is paying more attention to that than the lyrics to the song. I get that they were trying to kick out that "strip club sexy" aura that surrounds people's opinions of pole, but by doing two wide-open legged straddle spins, well, could have done knee holds, handsprings, etc instead of those. JC was right, there was the "sexy" being shown. The stuff they did in the pre-show clips was  much more interesting. As annoying as D-Trix was, he also was right when he said watching it was like trying to listen to two people talk at once.

I honestly dont think I would have bothered picking up the phone to vote, even though I was thrilled pole was on tv, it just disappointed me to see that was the performance to show off pole to America on TV.

Not uncommon at all! I lose the twisted grip all the time, then it comes back again. I believe I overthink tricks sometimes, and that gets in my way. I got the regular handspring on Saturday, but I have a feeling it will be gone by Friday when I go back and practice with my friend again! I lost the cartwheel mount a couple times also, it is frustrating, but with persistance, they come back!

Don't give up, just keep working on things 🙂 Give yourself a break from the frustration of the lost move, and practice things you know, or something new you want to try. Then go back to trying the lost trick and you may be surprised – it may be waiting for you!

I've said the same thing as you, about selling my pole and packing it in, because of my serious lack of flexibility, but I'd be sad without my pole time!

I can't do the regular split grip front handspring, but can cartwheel mount all day long and get a twisted grip in there a few times a practice also. I don't like the true grip, it feels very unstable to me even with grip on my hands, even from an inverted position.

When I see Karol (Helms) this weekend, I'm gonna be asking for some help with this regular handspring thing LOL. It's been driving us absolutely batty since we started attempting it!
