I use it for learning new tricks i'm unsure with and when the pole just wont seem to warm up well enough. Most grip aids and I don't seem to work well together though. I've used Windex successfully, iTac on the pole, a spray called Stick'Um(?) and most recently Dry Hands (which didnt work well the first time – much better this 2nd time).

    Awesome! Congrats!! 🙂

I remember having to perform for the beginner class on my last night of it before moving up to intermediate. It was a great feeling!

  • The Marley. Oh the freaking Marley. No matter how many times I've been shown that …. I still cannot grasp the stupid thing. I end up way too horizontal. I've had pros show me, and I still cant do it. It's taken over practices before. I'm going to try and work on it a little more, after being shown another way to do it.

My knee hold was relatively easy – I got it after an instructor at the old studio I wasted time at told me that I'd never get it. So I went home, and did knee holds until I got it, then brought in a picture to show them next class. Pffffft.

The Allegra is another one I'm working on. I need to learn to lean downward, but I just dont do it!!  It would totally help with the fluid look if I could do it  but I get stuck mentally and physically on the leaning down part!

Mine is the other way – My hubby has to be asked to come in and watch or take pics lol. He's indifferent to it. When I go to my friend's house, her husband is indifferent to it as well but will come in and help spot if we need him. Otherwise neither of them pay attention, and if they're together, its as if we're not even there on the poles!

So I'm doing the splits in 6 weeks thingy, and have completed my first week. I've always felt I'll never be flexible, but the improvement over the last week was nice enough to keep me going on this!

@Kat: The karate stance is a pain in the butt for me too. I can get it, but keeping balance isnt easy. I can really feel a stretch in that stance though.

I just finished the first week. Going to post some pictures in the progress thread, if I can figure out how to do it! I miss the old forums lol

Taking Karol's saturday workshop at nypd so far. 🙂

  • I find the chrome xpole to have much more grip than my chrome PS permanant. I usually can just hop right on the chrome xpole, but use grip aids when practicing harder/new tricks for "self-security".

I had great experiences with PS's customer service when they cut the pole to the wrong length in 2009. They immediately shipped out one cut properly and it was here in about 2 days. It did suck I got an improperly cut pole the first time. I find that pole to be more slick than the xpole though and a lot of warming up is required to get to the point I can do a lot of stuff on it.

I *may* go this year. I thought about it last year, but we couldn't get a straight answer from anyone and was leery about it because of that. Even the venue had said they knew nothing about it when we called them! But now that we know its legit, might try and go this year. Looked like a great time last year!

I started this two days ago, and think that even after the first day I was slightly closer to the floor on my good side. Now I just have to keep up with it! I'm super busy with full time work and full time college during the week, but am determined to get these pesky splits. I've only ever done them once, when i was about 10, after sliding in the rain during a game of tag. I slid to "base" in a beautiful front split LOL.

I cant touch the floor during a toe touch, without bending my knees, or do it while sitting. I think I'm the most inflexible person in the world! But working on it, I just hate stretching because I feel like I never get anywhere.

Hopefully I stick with it! I can get into a split position with shoes on so far, they help me slide into place. Goal is to be able to do it on carpet without shoes, and finally reach the floor- even if its only jazz splits 🙂

Been there done that quite often!! Got the regular grip cartwheel at a studio I was visiting and then lost it by the next day haha. Now its on and off, though I've taken about 3 weeks off from regular poling (stupid school and work!) and getting back into it tomorrow. My TG was there for a single freakin' day before it vanished too. Now I dont even feel close!

I do recall definitely overdoing the regular cartwheel mount. We'd practice at least 50x a night for 2-3 nights a week. Finally got it but its consistency isn't there. I will say, I built some nice upper body muscles practicing it so much so often.

I'm interested in any type of back stretches as well. My miserable flexibility needs some help. I refuse to look at what my back bridge looks like pushing up from the floor lol.

I've always poled in shorts, never had much of a skin ripping issue yet during any spins. I've had bruising back when I started because I needed to learn to control my spin, but never had any skin contact tearing.
