Yes, Sascha…I agree. I just got a brand new Vaio laptop and the stripped down Movie Maker is a disaster. Fortunately, I kept my old E-machine hooked up and I will just wait the 6 1/2 minutes it takes to boot the old war horse up and connect to the FLIP because it has all of the great features for making videos.

I remember seeing an article about this in the newspaper and I thought the judgment was against the club, not the dancer. Lawyers only sue when there is a reasonable chance of getting a pay-off for insurance..or the conversion of a valuable asset–like a house, a property, or a restaurant. I’m not going to stereotype dancers and say it is completely impossible that a club dancer would have nearly three quarters of a million dollars in cash to pay damages, but it seems unlikely. But some states and municipalities do require bars ("dram-shops") to have dram shop and liability coverage. In Illinois there used to be a cap $40,00 per incident if it involves alcohol…not sure about other types of things or what the law is now.

If you dance for money and own a house in a non real property protected state ( anywhere except TEXAS…..FLORIDA), then it might be an issue…or if you have some real cash sitting in the bank…like THOUSANDS…then, yes, insurance is a good idea. There is a reason why OJ Simpson keeps a house in Florida –it’s a judgment proof state–for houses, at least. But given the typical demography of the student, young female dancer putting herself through school…there isn’t going to be an asset to sue against in most cases. But I suppose it is a good idea to ask the club management about liability coverage for dancers anyway.

Nowadays, everybody sues ANY deep pocket they can find. When the 100 people were killed in that bar fire (from the fireworks show) in (Rhode Island)?…they only had a few 100K of insurance–nowhere near enough to compensate the victim’s families. But there was an AMOCO station across the street (now BP) and the gas station guy used to let people just park their cars in his empty lot there while they were watching the bands play in the bar. As a result, the plaintiffs attorneys tried to link Amoco to the lawsuit, claiming the AMOCO corporation was "responsible" for the fireworks, explosion, and the deaths of the bar patrons. It was a very spurious claim, but AMOCO and successor BP spent a huge amount of legal fees getting the claim thrown out. Not to defend BP-AMOCO..ha ha, they are not my favorite folks necessarily…but it is absolutely clear that this ONE time, the palintiffs were hoping for a deep pocket…and BP-AMOCO had BILLIONS…whereas the bar owner barely had 5 bucks to his name…

I haven’t had too many opportunities to try different poles and finishes…but I think I like Brass the best. As a heavy male poler, the grip is really nice for keeping all 200 pound of me up on the pole.

This thread gave me an idea. At the next pole convention, wouldn’t it be nice to have a "pole testing" room where there was one pole of every diameter and coating. Then you could try out each one and make a decision to inform future purchases.

    Just a fantasy, I guess…

I can totally relate to the weird body proportion frustrations. A lifetime of extreme bike riding has giving me fairly decent looking legs…but they are muscular and very dense and heavy. I cannot lean back very well for planks and laybacks easily…a problem made worse by the male anatomy problem. I’ve got a nice fat beer gut in the middle, but I feel like my shoulders and upper anatomy are deficient. The only real way for my to lose any belly weight is to lose a LOT more weight all over my body and whenever I try to do that, I get skinny toothpick legs and it looks bizarre to me. I fell like the only way I would look normally proportioned would be to work with a trainer and target certain areas.

It might take considerably more weight to keep the pole stable than a few bricks, even if you are very light weight. Spins develop a LOT of sideways force. One option might be to pre-prepare a "socket" by filling a 5 gallon paint bucket (about $2.00 at Home Depot) with concrete or cement and centering a sleeve of plastic PVC pipe wide enough to fit the OUTSIDE diameter of your pole. After the concrete hardens, you’ll have a fairly heavy item you can bury deep enough just so the PVC sticks up a few inches to insert your pole.

My wife and sister have had that happen. And the next re-test was normal. Sissy is right…the false positive rate in Pap Smears (for "changes") is very close to the normal rate of incidence, so a single test isn’t probative of anything. There are some blood based tumor reactivity tests you can get…but they are kind of pricey…and like the pap or the prostate tests, they need to be baselined FIRST…then repeated for changes at intervals later in time.

ANother female relative of mine had a scare like this 10 years ago when the tech slipped with the ultrasound probe in a vaginal ultrasound and produced a "LUMP" on an ovary. Turned out it was actually a blur on the sonograph. She had 2 repeat rounds of the tumor factor tests and another sonogram. No blur…and no tumor reactivity or changes in the levels… Fortunately, she was over 65 and Medicare paid the bills, because basically it was just a diagnostic error.

You mentioned relatives with cancer. What age? A man dying of prostate cancer at 75-80 is not really significant of much. But if he was 45, that might be different. I’m not sure there is much correlation between female reproductive cancers and the other types–especially with men.

Another thing I have read is that there can be cervical cell changes if you switch brands of pill…or go from one type of hormone preparation to another…or from one of the high dose to low dose type formulations….

I would not freak out about this right now. If you are getting regular pap smears, then you are AHEAD of the game, doing all the right stuff for early detection. And for the record, it’s usually very treatable. I ran into my best friend’s mom today at the deli. She was in her tennis uniform!!! She is 83 years old and had cervical cancer long before the advent of modern treatments, and had 3 kids before and 2 more after. She held the door open for me!

There are quite a number of strippers or "exotic dancers" on Studio Veena and most of the Pole Dance sites. I don’t really think you will find very many harsh judgments against exotic dancers once you enter the pole dance community. I think that as a group, polers are already kind of pre-selected to be fairly open minded and comfortable with issues of sexuality.

That being said, I sort of got my come-uppance a few months ago when a poler I knew–who had never stripped–decided to dance, but NOT strip, in a regular bar or club. I have to admit I was surprised at my own reaction to her decision to experiment with even dancing in a bar venue. This was despite the fact that I had visited strip clubs (even with another SV member!). LOL, so I got to experience my own hypocrisy FIRST HAND…a clear attack of "double standard-itis" After a bit of soul searching about my feelings, I decided that despite thinking I had open and progressive ideas, we can all be tripped up by our backgrounds and the prevailing norms of society. That was the best "pole lesson" I’ve learned on SV!

One of my favorite polers, the FIRST person I learned spins from on her site, is an exotic dancer. She is a regular on this site and well known to all of us. I’d give anything to have her pole skills. I’ve had the chance to interact with her about other issues…both pole related and more personal. Believe me, you’ll never encounter a person with more character and honesty!

It is possible to modify the inner thigh anatomy a little bit with the exercise machines at the health club that work the inner abductors. A home remedy would be to use a children’s kickball…or even several thick pillows and just put them between your legs while watching TV and doing isometric style squeezes to a 5 count or a 10 count… With repeated reps, you should add a little bit of muscle bulk on the inner thighs after a few weeks.

Yes, it’s happened twice–once on the Oak Park mall, when a reporter who runs the Oak Leaves weblog saw me riding my bike to the progressive dinner night and ran up to where Laurie and I were sitting on a park bench and said, "hey, you’re that poledance guy, aren’t you?" LOL, he wanted my AUTOGRAPH…ha ha SERIOUSLY!!! He was actually a nice guy, but Laurie was freaking out, because her co-workers do NOT know I pole and she prefers to keep it that way. Other teachers from the high school are ALWAYS at the outdoor events. …and an administrator at a nursing home I inspected. I am 99% sure she is a "secret" poler–she’s got the pole build and dresses just "ever so slightly" towards the fetishy side of the line…. OK, Yes, I am sterotyping, for sure–it’s just a "feeling" I have, but I’m not sure. But you know, sometimes "Like notices Like"–you know what I mean??? One day, out of the blue, she came into the conference room at lunch time and asked me "you have videos on You-Tube, don’t you?"

LOL, that comment was written by a totally pervy horndog…trying his best to be sneaky about slipping in a few requests to satisfy his fetishes.

Oh well, like they said on Seinfeld, "Not that there’s anything wrong with that!" Knowing Leigh Ann and the Be Spun crew, I’m sure they got quite a laugh out of his comment. This guy SERIOUSLY needs to step up his game!

I’m 49…just a few months until 50! I’ll be half a century old! 43 years old, you say? LOL, that’s robbing the cradle! Get busy on that pole, young lady!
