  • Hey sorry to hear about your furbaby! My dog tore his right ACL when he was 3 and his left exactly one year later. We had to do surgery on both legs, with a long recovery. Have you looked into Care Credit? It is basically a credit card for services like Vet bills, Dental work and Cosmetic procedures. Its been a huge help for my furry kids. His first surgery we had to just come up with the money, but for his second surgery we applied for Care Credit. Our credit was not even that great at the time and we still got approved. Look into it since after surgery there will be meds like rimadyl and cosequin he will really need and most likely need forever. As they get older they will have arthritis issues. Also see if your Vet will work with you on payments. Ours did for our first surgery and we made 2 or 3 payments. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions, good luck!

Catsanctuary177663 You can also go to their website and in the search field type in crash mat. Or Try this link for yoga direct. http://www.yogadirect.com/Pole-Crash-Mats_p_33.html. I looked at buying it from both Amazon and from the website directly. It ends up being the same price on either site from what I could tell. Hope that helps 🙂

I finally just ordered a mat…since they are so pricey I waited to use birthday money! I ordered mine from http://www.yogadirect.com and got the pink 5 inch. Love it! Nice and thick so it breaks my fall nicely. Helps with the fear factor of doing new inverts for sure. Its totally worth the money to get some type of mat.

Definitely do not quit! Sorry to hear you had a bad studio experience because this is not the norm for the pole community. Inverting is hard and it takes a lot of time and a lot of strength. I have seen people of all sizes inverting, so don’t let that comment bother you at all! I think you should post an online review for the studio.

May 1, 2015 at 8:54 am in reply to: relaxing learning how to breath when im on the pole

I used to always forget to breathe, but I am getting a lot better at it. If I find myself holding my breath, I will take time to do a very slow freestyle to a relaxing song. Almost like breathing in yoga…think about each breath as you do the movement and take your time. Take a look at this video on youtube by NYPolerina, Pole Dance of Loneliness | “Less” by Ljova. She really takes her time in each dance movement. I downloaded this song and it has been perfect for me. It is my go to song when I need to slow the heck down and breath! I do very simple movements/spins and sometimes my feet hardly leave the ground. It has become a bit of a meditative dance for me now. If I feel like I am really connecting to my breath, I will add some more challenging moves. I have been doing this for a couple months now and I find that I do not have to think about breathing as much anymore. That song may or may not be your thing, but just find a song that you can really connect with and that makes you feel at peace. And as Casi mentioned, practicing while doing stretches is a great way to work on it as well. 🙂

I can relate, I am going through a bit of a funk at the moment. Stuck between everything I am trying is just to hard and everything I can do is just easy and overdone just like Runemist34 said. I am trying to really focus on building strength, but this week I am just not feeling that either. It almost feels like I am not getting emotionally connected. I know it will come back and it is always temporary, but it is frustrating! I just love pole so much that I always want it to be right, but that is just not reality. 🙂 I am sure your burn out will pass and you will be back at it in no time!

You are going to do awesome and you are going to LOVE it!! I am 41 and just started last year. I am also pretty flexy, but wow I had a lot of strength to build. It has been the best journey and there is so much to learn. I love that it is a sport I can do for the next 40 years. Happy poling 🙂

DesireeGattis-Stall bars are awesome! I grew up doing gymnastics and wish I had one in my house. They can be used for many different strength and flexibility exercises. Here is a youtube video that shows some examples of what you can use it for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au0ykvSiEi8

Hello! I am probably around the same level you are at this point. I pole 2-3 times a week at home and I am not set to any certain days. I kind of let my body tell me what days it wants to pole. I also have a Total Gym that I use here and there to break up the strength building part of it and to give my muscles something else to do. When I do pole, I do some warm up dancing…then practice tricks…then back to dancing and stretching at the end. Time goes by so fast, so I usually spend 1-2 hours in my pole room. Happy Poling! 🙂

No I have not tried that yet, good idea. I will watch some of the other poler videos on here over the weekend and see how that affects my gbs. Thanks!

There is a studio in town, but I have never been there. I also work from home, so I do not go down the mountain that often. We tend to go down just for groceries and other needs. Its a bummer because I am at the point where lessons would really be helpful for certain stuff. Plus my hubby is getting into it and we are considering getting another pole for the house.

I would love to do more lessons, but because we live in the mountains we have to use Dish Network for internet service. I noticed when playing Veena videos, it eats up a lot of my GBs for the month. Way more then say Youtube videos. So up here we cannot stream tv or movies due to that as well. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome! I am an at home poler and I have never taken a studio class. I have an xpole at home and love it!! It is the xpert, so it can be on spin or static. There are a ton of resources for those of us who learn to pole at home and Studio Veena is definitely one of the best resources. You can also find a ton of videos on youtube. The best thing you can do when you first get your pole is to start strength and conditioning. Veena has some great videos to start with that process. Pole is awesome and the best journey I have ever been on. Finally working out is no longer work…it is so much fun. This site is extremely supportive and all of the polers are amazing people. Hope you get a pole soon! 🙂
