Kinesiotex tape is fantastic stuff! But for it to be applied correctly, you need to see a PT, OT, or a DO who knows how to apply it. The application of it is tied into the origins and insertions of the muscles. You also stretch the tape certain amount based upon what you are trying to accomplish and what the injury is.
If you go see a rehab specialist, you may also want to ask them about BioFreeze. It is my go to for my own injuries. I use it before I apply my kinesiotex tape to myself. Just a side note, I am an OT, so I have been trained on it, but in my opinion, I have not been trained sufficiently to use it in treatment with others. On the bright side, I work with kids, so I don't need to.
Also, you may want to be checked by a doctor as sometimes they will give you a prescription strength muscle relaxer or prescription strength pain killers. When I tore my sternocleidomastoid muscle in my neck (I know big name!), I was on a lovely drug cocktail. But, it did allow it to heal quicker. Fortunately, it was not a dance injury!
Good luck and feel better!

I would definitely ask for a prescription for the numbing cream. Between that and advil, the pain was very minimal and less than with waxing.

Although it can be difficult to manage initially, once you have your fibromyalgia under control, there has been some research that has shown that exercise helps! That is the good news!! The other good news is that ten years ago, doctors were not diagnosing it nor was there a medication for it. Keep your head up and your heart strong and you will be back to poling in no time!

You may also want to talk to your doctor about Fibromyalgia. Stiffness and pain are very common with Fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to diagnose. Good luck!

Do you teach pole? Thanks for the thought but I love all my OT jobs 🙂 I was just curious how they were thinking of working pole into the clinic. Working with kids, I frequently see how I could use pole as a core strengthener for many of my students, but it is too taboo in schools. Good luck finding someone! I can only see the benefits of how it all could work together.

I never thought about my turnout being the cause of some of my challenges I face….definitely something to think about!

As a ballerina first and a pole dancer second, I would say that ballet has really helped with pole. I am able to do the transitions and have fluidity between moves a lot better than some of my counterparts. Also, I have more flexibility than others as I have been training for it so much longer. Ballet uses strength in your core and legs, which clearly assists. You can always try it and if you don't like it, try a jazz dance class next semester.

I have done online dating off and on for the last 7 years or so, mostly on Jdate (makes sense as I am jewish). When you are first starting out on it, I definitely recommend using a free site. My current boyfriend is from Jdate and we have been together 5.5 months. My brother, best friend, and my cousin met their wives/husband on Jdate and one of my closest friend met her husband on Match (they have been married for 5 years). So I definitely know lots of success stories.
That being said, you need to have a tough skin. I have seen guys not show for dates, them looking nothing like their profile pictures, having great personalities through email and then nothing in person, and many other things. You are going to go on a lot of bad dates and okay dates before you find the right person. I can even recall once where I would love that hour back of my life. But, would I do it all again to find my current guy? Absolutely and in a heartbeat!! I have one friend that met her husband through Jdate that used to keep a blog of all of her internet dating experiences. It was downright hilarious and a great way to keep a positive viewpoint on the whole experience.
Some words of advice. Set up an email address to use that doesn't have your full last name if you start using personal email as a method of communication. Also, drive yourself to the first couple dates. Lastly, make sure you have at least one friend that knows you are on a date and can make a call 45 minutes to an hour into the date to make sure you are good. This way there can be an "emergency" if needed. I have only had to do this once, but almost everyone I know has needed it at least once.
Good luck and have fun!! It really can be a lot of fun and you never know who you are going to meet.

Thanks!

Oh goodness gracious no!!! One of the pole studios I go to doesn't even let students take both feet off the ground in their Pole 1 class. You don't learn a fireman spin until Pole 2. We all started that way and now many of us do things we never thought we would be able to do.
I used to not be able to lift myself at all and now I can climb a pole using just my arms! When my teacher asked me to do that I looked at her like she was crazy!!! Good luck and have fun!

Definitely not the only one!! It happened to me a couple weeks ago ALSO on the inverted thigh hold. I am really still not sure why I fell. I am thinking I slipped, but I also think I may have accidentally taken the wrong leg off the pole. Woops!! Either way, I went down and I got my hands down to help break the fall, but needless to say my mouth took the brunt of it! I apparently bit down so hard on my lower lip just below where the lip ends, that not only did I get a huge fat lip (it grew over an inch that night….sexy!) that I actually had bruise marks in the shape of my teeth just below my lip! It would have to be qualified as the most bizarre bruise I have ever gotten! Anyways, you can still feel the bumps in the muscle that goes around the lips 🙁 It truly leaves me thinking…if a boy kisses me (its the muscle known as the kissing muscle), will he feel the bumps????
