Allow me to fill in the blanks here a little…

Nicci’s inversion came 1 month and 3 days into her life of pole dancing….

*sigh* some people just have it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I had my very first go on spinny last night and wow – what a difference!

I have really bad vertigo and thought that spinny mode would also make me sick, but I found that while my focus was on the mirror and trying to see if I had my positioning right, my equilibrium didn’t really react to the fact that I was spinning… and it was just too much fun.

So… maybe focus on the mirror and how good you look https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif and see if it helps.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the response…

I have seen other polers hold at the ankle and thigh, but I slip with this. More pressure on the hip?… I guess it’s just a case of practise, practise, practise.

omg – the DVDs are AMAZING. Jamilla is just awesome. The instructions are solid and the whole set is top notch quality. She really did deserve the Instructor of the Year award she got.

Thanks. I’m sure many polers have had this conversation about the names, and there are many opposing corners about which moves are called what. Some polers call it scorpio, some call it gemini (and vice versa for the gemini vs scorpio). I called it scorpio based on Jamilla’s DVDs – but who cares. What matters is that I did it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
    Woohoooooooooooo!

But I think I’ll go with charley and E-Vamp83 on this one and call it the outside leg hang for the sake of (non) arguments https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif Good luck!! You are so brave… I’m sure that the adrenalin on the night will carry you through that move perfectly. What move is it?

On Jamilla’s Art of Pole DVD’s, she talks about focus and attitude ~ I’m sure you’ve got the attitude https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif so just visualise yourself getting the move right just before you do it and I’m sure you’ll ace it.

Thanks so much, girls https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I see I have a nice bruise behind my knee today ~ awesome.

I will continue posting my progress and when I have some time, I will post a proper video https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Michelle, thanks for the message – I will definitely be in touch. I know about BodyMind (got my pole from Natasha) and about the Miss Pole Dance SA, but I already have plans for the 11th. I’ll have to get the next DVD when it comes out https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Chat soon xx

I know, I know!! The variety of options seems endless! But I realised tonight that I need to just keep practising the inverting and hand release a little longer and be patient with trying out a whole bunch of new stuff.
My husband’s comment: "Your legs are red." https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I do like the move going from handstand, open legs V, lowering legs V to the ground. Really smooth. Don’t know so much about the shoulder move, though, but I will definitely give it a shot! Oh, and I have a static pole. Spinny pole is going to have to wait a while…

Still taking notes, though! Thanks x

Okay… so I attempted the down, but since it’s hot and humid in SA at the moment, I stuck to the pole *ouch*. I decided to practise the inverted crucifix a bit more… then I did one too many choppers. Now I’m really sore *hehehehe*

Thanks so much for the motivation – good to know I’m on the right track, even if I’m going really slowly.

Thanks! I’m going to have to get out the old pen and notepad and start making meticulous entries. Everyone’s obviously got different things that work differently for them… but right now I feel like too many options are available. Getting some perspective is great. Really appreciate it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Here’s an idea – if you’re attracted to the couch and the TV, just watch a couple of music videos with hot chicks shaking their unbelievably skinny booties… that may or may not motivate you https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

I’ve only been poling for 4 weeks and I get really frustrated cos I see all these amazing pole dance videos and I know how much hard work it’s going to take to achieve what I see in the videos. So in order to get off my ass, I set goals: "By the end of this week, I’ll have a really smooth fireman spin, carousel, and a hands-free pole sit" (for example)… then it creates really good momentum if I achieve what I wanted. Last night I got the corkscrew *yay* https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

How often to practise? Listen to your body. Do one session for as long as you can (and for as long as you are enjoying it and having fun), leave it for a day, then try again on the third day. If, however, you hurt your <body part> on day 1 and it’s still sore on day 3, then wait another day until your body is ready to practise again. It’s based on what carriej said about your muscles tearing and building. Give yourself time to heal.

Also ask yourself whether poling is a higher priority than couch potato-ing. There’s nothing wrong with down-time, obviously, but how badly do you want to be pole fit?

But yeah, throw on your favourite music and get moving. Very soon your couch potato habits will turn into HOT potato pole moves!

It doesn’t matter what body type you are, pole dancing is an art… and no one is born with those kinds of skills (even though it might look like it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif).

I’m very skinny up with what I affectionately call "strong" thighs. I started poling 3 weeks ago and just the progress so far is worth all the sweat and pole burn that’s already come and gone. Remember, too, that pole dancing isn’t all about arms – you’re going to need those legs too – but most importantly, it’s your core strength you want to focus on. Besides sweating it out on the pole, do you also do push-ups, crunches, leg lifts and stretching? Trust me, the complementary exercises will help 10-fold!

Like everyone said: practise!! But enjoy the process… and the day that you stop feeling awkward and start burning those moves, put it on video… we want to see!!

Good luck ~ and every time you need some motivation, there are thousands of us on here that will be in exactly the same boat!

Welcome! New Zealand is awesome (and that’s to all the Kiwis on SV too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)…

May your pole adventures be long and successful!
