By the way, thanks so much for all your work advancing pole fitness/pole dancing! I know we all benefit greatly from your work! We are pleased to be one of the certification companies that Insurance 4 Poledancers offers a discount for. Thank you for your insight and foresight.
Back to the ACE phone call you had, you are right they can be confusing. It sounds like the person that you spoke with on the phone was confused herself.

It sounds like you have really done your research with ACE. Yes, in order to call your training a "certification" on their site you have to go through NCAA/ANS.
I have had alot of conversations with ACE over the past few years about "certification" and we represented Pole Fitness at the ACE symposium this last year. I also just called them (to make sure that I am stating this correctly).
The American Council on Exercise does NOT recognize the Xpert Certification as a certification…it is ONLY a "certificate of completion" that provides continuing education credits for ACE/AFAA…just like every other pole company that provides teacher trainings/certifications and is a continuing education provider.
Also, AFAA is totally fine with the term "Certification" but ACE wants Certifications to be called "Teacher Trainings" or "Certificates of Completion." The American Council on Exercise does not even recognize most of the other fitness company's Group Fitness Certifications or Personal Training Certifications as "Certifications" …including AFAA. That being said I love ACE and have been certified through them for 17 years.
I personally love to attend Pole teacher trainings so that I can get continuing education credits for ACE and AFAA … I am definitely not going to sit through another step or kickboxing training for credits!

MemberFebruary 23, 2012 at 10:24 am in reply to: Getting certified as a pole instructor..?There are actually a few certifications that are PFA sanctioned and approved by AFAA and ACE. Last year, at the pole convention, Xpert was saying that they were the first and only training approved by the PFA, ACE and AFAA -which simply wasn't true.
Discoveries Dance or PoleMoves may have been the first to have been recognized by all three governing bodies. PoleMoves began late 2008 and Discoveries Dance was around that time, as well. Angel, who wrote Discoveries Dance Training, and I share a booth at the pole conventions. I coordinate all of the PoleMoves trainings which started with a beginning and intermediate training and this year we are launching an advanced training. Angel's is amazing with high level teachers, spotting, etc.
I would like to see Pole Certification move towards where everyone needs courses beginning with a basic ACE/equivalent certification, basic moves training, stabilization exercises, advanced moves, spotting, liability, internship hours (really a 200 hour certification) which would be similar to a registered yoga teacher. It is all very exciting! I am happy to learn everything from everybody so that I am as well rounded as possible.

MemberJuly 25, 2011 at 4:18 am in reply to: Xpole/Crunch Pole fitness instructor certificationI met Lauren and many of the instructors of this course at the Pole Convention and they are great. For clarification, the XPert training isn't the first training that was approved by AFAA and the American Council on Exercise and the PFA. Discoveries Pole Dance has a fabulous one that provides 1.2 ACE Credits and 10.5 AFAA credits. It is very strong in regards to exercise progressions, anatomy, safety, spotting, etc. PoleMoves also has a training that provides 1.6 ACE continuing education credits and 13.25 AFAA credits. The Pole Fitness Association mentioned that there are twelve certifications that are approved by the PFA. I don't know how many of them provide continuing education. For those of us who have to accrue continuing education credits, I am thankful to have numerous trainings to choose from so that I do not have to attend a training that I am not interested in, i.e. STEP.
