I’m going with the consensus! Work with what you know, get the sequence really good…and then next year, you can REALLY wow him! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

You know, I was thinking about it…and I realized that I pole dance for many reasons.
I pole dance because my friends at the time got into it too, and because we all decided to do it at the same time. Some have dropped off, and since I don’t talk to any of them anymore, I don’t know about the rest.
I pole dance because I figured I needed something much more interesting than running, doing weights, or whatever else. They never held my interest and they never will.
However, I think the very personal draw for me is that it’s very…"against my nature," or what people seem to perceive as my nature. In life, I tend to be very…innocent? I don’t know really how to describe it. Apparently, people just see me as cute and cuddly and not very sexual at all.
Then I tell them I’m into Burlesque, and I have a pole in my living room that is my "complete home gym" as well as a great way to express myself. THEN they freak out! "What? YOU?" they ask me, all incredulous. "Yes, me." I answer, straight faced. I’m often amused, at this point, by the reactions I get when anyone hears about this from me, and they get all surprised!
As I said before…sexuality is individual. We will attract other people that are of similar mind, because our individual sexuality is how we express what we want. Apparently, people expect that I am cute, innocent, and one of those "girl next door" girls, where I don’t act like I want it, I just kind of lay back and enjoy whatever happens. In some ways, this is true, and some it’s not.
I’m not afraid of my body, or the bodies of others. If you looked at my favourite pictures on Deviantart, you’d see I like mostly three things: Space, animals, and naked ladies. I love the female form, it’s all I draw (more or less) and it’s a lovely piece of art, to me. It comes in many shapes and sizes, and all of them are wonderful. My body is my own, and it is female, and I’m okay with that (at least unless I’m having cramps!). I can run around naked, I can wear sexy things, I can do whatever I want, and the only restriction is that I live with roommates, one of whom is a heterosexual male, not my husband, and I don’t think that would be appropriate.
So, to wrap this all up…I pole dance to reach into another side of myself. A sexy, forward, personal, and secretive part of myself. A part that is happy being alone with herself. A part that doesn’t care if I got an A on that research essay, or if people laugh at me because I tripped, or if I have nice hair that day.
And I love that part of myself. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Haha, Amcut, I’m pretty much the opposite! I always try to stretch out by bending backward when I have bad cramps, and generally find if I sit for too long, or if I’m bending forward, it tends to get worse! Maybe we both have weird uteruses! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
Veena, I think I knew something about the pain tolerance thing…it just slipped my mind, apparently! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif But I appreciate the reminder! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

    Thank you, ladies!
I can totally agree with the whole idea of ones’ body working harder when one is menstruating, because I know I feel like crap the first couple of days…I’m always tired, hurting, and quite unwilling (usually) to do anything other than sit. I suppose that means school is right up my alley! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
I’m pretty sure I’ve done some "beginner" inversions in yoga, but I never got really good at it…I don’t do the classes anymore, they’re rather expensive! But, it’s good to know about, right? I do some yoga for stretching after I dance, I suppose, but it’s not quite the same.
Perhaps I’ll give my CKR a couple of days before I try again. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

    Hey Ladies!
Since this board is already here, and we’ve established there are no guys, I have another question on the topic of ones’ monthlies.
I’ve heard many times before that one should NEVER go upside down while on the rag. Never, ever. It causes problems, apparently. I heard this reading Yoga books, and yet I never heard it in Yoga class. I’ve heard it, also, talking about inversions on the pole, and yet I’ve never heard any instructors mention it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
So, is this correct? Should we females be forgetting the inversions while menstruating? What happens if one has a competition? Or in my case, really really really wants to work on the CKR, but just got her girly-thing? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

Poleophile, I agree with you…I also have curly, thick hair, and it’s hard to flip right now because I haven’t cut it in ages! No money, and trying to grow it longer. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif It’s almost to the small of my back, now!
I actually flip my hair best when it’s wet, because the weight gives me more of an idea what I’m doing. When I’m washing my hair, I comb it out with my fingers, and I flip it from one side to the other in order to get it all. Maybe try practice in the shower?
Also, yes, it’s quite a bit of momentum to get the hair going! I still haven’t really gotten the proper flip down (the other girls make it look so easy!), and I’d love to flirt with my hair, too! If you figure out any other tricks, let me know! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    OH GOD CONAN ROFLMAO!!
I never watch either of these shows, but I know (vaguely) who these people are. That was the funniest thing I’ve seen all day! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Thank you! You know, this reminds me…I had a pole almost fall on me, once. The exact same kind of pole I own, too!
My friend at the time had one, and we were having ourselves a little pole jam…she installed it herself, and I should have thought of this before even trying anything (silly me!) because she’s a slight little thing, and probably didn’t think much of it…
Apparently she doesn’t put much weight or pressure on the pole when she dances, but my extra 50 pounds or so swingin’ around that thing had it right out. Lucky I was cautious, and only doing a half-spin! Both feet on the ground, so nothing got broken.
So, I agree with everyone else…make sure you install your pole properly! I would dread to think (even though we aren’t friends anymore) what would happen to her if she started inverting or getting into some more advanced spins with her pole like that! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

So, I saw this thread, and it’s kinda hit a chord with me, because I’ve been going through some body issues lately, and I’ve been trying to get myself to the point where I don’t mind the way I look. I’ve beaten (mostly) my depression, and though I still have the anxiety, I’ve been much better about not being abusive to myself. However, the physical form is still something I’m critical of…I see so many beautiful women while I’m at school, on Deviant art, and watching pole videos. Thin, well-toned, long-legged, beautiful women.
However, on the other side of that, my husband disagrees that these women are what he would want, and many people tell me I look much smaller than I apparently think I do (when I tell them I’m 165 pounds, they ask me where I keep it all!), and how envious they are of my proportions, my pretty face, my long legs, and especially, my skin.
SO, I’ve decided to make the conscious effort to really, seriously, honestly look at myself for about a day, and see what it is I like. To be less critical, and more accepting of myself. I believe this is one of the best steps I could take toward self-love.
    So, without further ado:
-I love my legs. They’re long, shapely, and look great when I wear heels.
-I love my waist. It’s small, gives me that hourglass look, and looks awesome in a corset!
-I love my breasts. While large (When did I ask for size E boobs??) they are still well cared for, lifted (even without the bra) and help to balance out the hips.
-I love my hands. They’re big and have long fingers.
-I love my eyes. They’re just like my moms’ eyes, and are apparently one of the features the husband likes best! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I’d say, personally, those are the easy parts! Now, I’ve gotta work on the hard parts! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

Veruca, that makes sense to me! I found that, either way, my thighs are big enough to hold me where I’m supposed to be…sitting-wise, at least. I always wondered about the dynamics of having larger thighs (because I’ve got the larger thighs!) when doing inversions and holds of this type. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

One of those, right around 1:15, I’m pretty sure is one of those Peek-a-boo poles. It seems to have sections like the ones I’ve seen, and they are REALLY not stable!
I hope all those people are okay! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
This is why I usually get my stepdad to install my pole…he’s strong! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

PDR, you sound like me. I started menstruating kinda late in life (16 or so) and it’s been very random. The one time I waited for 6 months for it, I had the worst cramps EVER. I literally writhed in bed for about two hours, unable to do anything, including stand up! It really sucked. I’ve also stopped taking the pill (though we aren’t looking to have babies for another 5 or so years), and it’s actually been nicer. I’ve had less depression since I stopped taking it, as well as seeming healthier. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Jury’s still out on the Divacup, actually. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

Polegrrrl: I had actually thought of doing that! I didn’t try it though…perhaps will! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
Audball: Hehe, thank you! Encouragement is always welcome, and is sometimes just as helpful as advice! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif
Chemgoddess: I thought I was the only one weird enough to try that! I totally did, too! Scoot everything up as high as it would go, and try to get my legs around the pole and make them stay there in the right position…I don’t think I was doing it properly, though! Considering my upside down fears, I’ll give that a go, too! Also, I am learning this one on my own without any help, too, so I totally understand the fears!
Polergirl: I hadn’t though of the toe/upper leg position too much…but thank you! I’ll remember to point and see if that helps me out. It probably will! And, secretly, I think I agree with you…I can cross-ankle sit on the pole no problem! I don’t think the CAR is far behind after I get this one! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

You ladies are all so nice! It’s like having my own, giant, awesome studio of people to talk to! Hehe!

Polergrrrl, I agree with Deetron…sooo jealous! I’d love to have a studio that was so in-depth! And I understand your difficulty with the shoes…I don’t wear mine often, and when I do, I almost fall at least twice, pole or not! It’s kinda scary! I’m trying to get some shoes (tomorrow! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif ) that have a bit better ankle strap, so that at least I know they fit, and stay on properly. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

It does make more sense! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I’m gonna try it tomorrow, if I can manage to keep the energy up (it seems to wane after class https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
As an aside…I took 3 years of horseback riding, english style. I loved it, I miss it, and western saddles hurt! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
Aaaand, if anyone else has any other pointers, I’d be happy to hear them! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif
