Bah! I forgot to ask one more thing! If we happen to feel somewhat more ambitious, can we dance for longer than 60 seconds? I don’t know the rules for these competitions…though I realize this one is just for fun https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

By "poses" do you mean ones that are done up on the pole after climbing, or can they be on the floor, or whatever? Or maybe a beginning pose, to start your dance off with?

There are other things you can do to improve your strength for the pole, even if you aren’t using a pole! Besides that, I always found classes hard because sometimes they move through things quickly, and don’t always take into account that you may not have the same kind of muscle development as someone else, and may not be able to do a move. Hey, look at me! I can do a carousel spin, I can climb the pole and sit on it…but I can’t do a "fan legs" move! I’m just not built the same as others.
I find that the knowing how to do a move is helpful, even if you can’t quite do it. You figure out the muscles you want to use, the other moves you CAN do that work those muscles, and do those instead, till you’re stronger!

Haha, I’m with ya there on the running! And pretty much everything else https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Here’s a good question…having watched your videos, what would you recommend for a person who knows HOW to get into an elbow or handstand (starting with the elbows, of course) but has never, ever done anything like it before? Seriously, I only just learned how to do a somersault! I can, ironically, do one backwards better than forwards (as in, fling my body up and over my head?), but something like an elbow stand I’ve never done before. I was thinking about trying it on my big, soft bed, just in case I do something wrong and don’t break my neck!

Hey, speaking of getting moves to be pretty… how does one cause ones spins to be…well, spinnier? I can spin just fine, but it just seems like I go down the pole way too fast, and only get about…maybe three rotations till I’m at the floor? Is that normal (and me just being silly), or is there a way to get more rotation without less speed? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
And I will certainly keep trying…getting into the position is once again sort of difficult! However, I think I’ll get the hang of it eventually. And the shoulders thing, I’ll learn that too… gotta properly support the "girls", right? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif
I’ve been thinking that it would really be awesome if I could forget about trying so hard to get into inversions, and really work on making my spins and such better. I’d like to really work on perfecting them, learning about them in great detail. I might even start video taping myself to see what I could do more! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

ROFL did you guys see Queen Latifa’s response to that gift? She’s awesome! Showed it to a couple of guys in the house too…they laughed so hard! Thanks for sharing, Veena!

Haha, you have no idea what you’re asking! My shoulders have always been up and tense through my life (I spent most of my life trying to hide, so I was hunched over all the time) so it’s a constant fight to teach my muscles! But I am trying. I’m still working on doing it for my spins! But climbs and sits I can do https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I never thought of working on the position in static, and not climbing! I’ve noticed that I am getting stronger as I work out more…it’s just hard for me to stick with it very often. I’m trying, though! Thank you for the advice https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Haha, I was nervous when I started taking regular lessons and dancing when I was in my parents’ house! But, crazily, my mom and sister also took lessons…because I loved it so much, they had to try it! I think that the main thing is that if you’re happy, I don’t think they’ll be unhappy because they know you love it! And if you whip out the awesome moves, I bet they’ll be impressed https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I don’t know if anyone has approached the subject, but are there any moves, or variations of moves, or even things one can do while dancing (such as slowing down?) that can help with strength? I’m very, very unenthused about doing crunches or lunges or anything unrelated to the actual dance…I just don’t enjoy it, about the same as I don’t like going running or something. I dance because I like dancing!
So, I was wondering…any tips? I get kind of frustrated, because I feel like I’m doing great, and then I can’t do certain things (like inversions) that I think I should be able to do.

Actualy, at the pole studio near my place, it’s generally about $190 for six or so lessons. I’m not sure what that breaks down to, but really, it’s rather expensive for me. They have levels, but the instructor (and lady who owns the place) really doesn’t know much about climbing or inversions, so I have a much different background and understanding of "levels" and things like spins and poses, and their importance to the dance that is pole dancing. I think that it really just depends on how you look at it, and your own level of fitness! Besides, I’ve been learning a lot outside of the classroom, rather than what I learned in class. The only real thing I gained in class was a place to really buckle down and do the dancing…but it wasn’t good cardio or strength work, because we would always pause to be taught stuff https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I thought it would be good to have physical or style challenges, as well. Such as, for all you climbers out there, perhaps something a little different…like a whole dance that doesn’t include ANY climbing at all? Or slowing things down, speeding things up, keeping to a certain tempo of music? Something silly, something serious, something sexy, or other style differences?
    Just some thoughts.

Hah! I’ve heard you can tell which arm a man favours due to the build of either arm…but this just takes it to a whole new level! It probably is real, though I have to nitpick a few things in that one…why does it matter that he’s using this…er, exercise tool, and we’re looking through an infrared camera? Also, I’m not exactly one for gigantically muscled men, so https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
Hehe, it sure gave me a laugh though! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

This is actually the first time I’ve seen her or her dancing…and I must say, this is exactly what I aspire to! She’s graceful and strong, and actually looks like she’s dancing, rather than just doing moves up there. Beautiful!

Haha, ladies…I used to play WoW, but I’ve been "clean" for almost a year now. I just can’t afford it…it was consuming my life https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
