Aww! Darn those luxury apartments being all pompus 😛 Well, if you get an Xpole, and then you move, you can have TWO poles to play on! I would be jealous 😉

Cantetinza17- What I mean is that you dance on it! When you do your warm up, to get your body going and warm, you can also do some light pole work, such as easy spins and poses and things, to get your pole warmer so that the metal grips better.
Warming up the room would be alright, but I could see the hairdryer idea being tedious, and not terribly useful, and possibly dangerous as those things get quite hot, and you don't want to damage the pole's finish.
I don't own my home, haven't for my whole life- I certainly don't have the money to afford a $50k downpayment, let alone a mortgage. However, I still continue to put my pole up and bolt it into the ceiling. I don't find that it does much damage, certainly light enough that, when and if you move out, you can put some polyfilla in there and it looks brand new (depending on how good you are with that polyfilla)! You can always inquire to your landlord if you would be allowed to bolt something into the ceiling. No need to tell them what it is. I mean, people sometimes put plant hooks up there, right?

Cantetinza17- I have a Stainless steel Lil mynx, and find that it is definitely sticky enough during humid times (such as all the time around where I live!) and especially when you take the time to warm it up.

I just remembered/realized another one. I can "count" sounds. Like, if there's a series of tapping, such as a plate falling to the ground, or something breaking, I can count how many times it hit very quickly.
I… actually can't really think of a time that this has ever really come in handy. I just seem to be able to determine how many times a sound happens in a short period of time. It's weird Oo;

I always seem to find "that spot" for cats and dogs, where if you scratch it, they both love it and tweak out pretty good. I also know how to pet birds, and get in under their feathers. I've actually had a hyacinth macaw refuse to leave my arm because she liked what I was doing- for over an hour, I think! She was as tall as my entire torso, too, so trying to tell her "no" was a little… dangerous!
I'm also a translator for strange people noises. You know, when people mumble something, or have food in their mouth, or just make some kind of sound in leu of a word? Yeah, I can understand that stuff, most of the time. Sometimes this means that I have to explain one person to another person (sometimes people don't connect when they are actually trying to communicate), and sometimes this just means I hear someone mumble something and react, and get strange looks for it 😛

MemberNovember 26, 2012 at 6:20 pm in reply to: Being called fat…by other “pole dancers”?!?!People are always going to have opinions and things on the way you look, no matter what you look like. However, what they think and say about you is, in fact, an expression of THEMSELVES, rather than an expression of you!
When I was younger, through my teens, I was called "anorexia" because I was very thin, and I was so uncomfortable with my body that I would wear ill-fitting clothes, like large sweaters and such. I tried desperately hard to hide the fact that I wasn't developing, becoming a woman, and I just made the issue worse.
Now, however, I've come into an hourglass figure with huge hips, and a large chest, and a few places that hold an inch or two of fat. Over the course of my adult life my body has reformatted a few times, made things move around a little more, and it seems only to accentuate my shape.
However, I hear the unconscious disapproval of our society. I'm not a size 2, I rarely fit into the "nice" shirts sold in stores, and pants are frighteningly hard to find. I have a 30" waist, and somehow, I'm considered "larger" than the "average" female.
I can also not shop at Plus sized stores, as I am smaller than their target audience. I'm not a size 14 and up. At my largest I was about a size 12. I am not able to join that group, either.
Nothing I have done with my body, and nothing it has done, has changed the judgement coming from people, just how the judgement has been expressed. Either I'm too big, or too little- too much something, not enough something else. I was once told that I was "pretty," but not "drop dead gorgeous" by another girl. It hurt.
But that's the thing… we need to learn to establish those boundaries of what is ours, and what is other people's.
I think it's awesome that you can laugh at them, Glitter! You are seriously beautiful (which, in case you were wondering, is indeed another judgement), and I hope you know that, too! -
Jag5303- I find the same, as I'm quite busty as well. Thus far I've only been doing this move from the ground, so I get myself in position before actually flexing the muscles.
Megan12- I never thought about where I put my hand! I might have to try that out. I am discovering that the angle of my arm is very important, though, so I think I may have to grab closer to the upper thigh.
SaschaPoles- Bringing one's legs up does seem like a core issue, much like doing the V legs spin or hold with Split grip. I can't do that for very long, either, unless my knees are bent. I don't have a lot of core strength, so I know that is an issue. Flexibility can also be an issue, because if you aren't flexible enough to get your legs up there, it gets kind of difficult!

Looks like you found the answer with the comments on the picture- it DOES look like the one in the website you linked, too.

Does she know how much she paid for it? Where did she buy it from? Is the base squared with sharp corners, or with rounded corners? What colour is it?
-
GiedreB- I don't think that's a bad thing! It adds to your style 🙂

Still working at them, but feeling like I'm making some progress! Just have to pick it up a bit more. Hamstrings are probably my worst problem… but then again, I'm pretty far away from my middle splits, too.
I keep pluggin' away though!

Four and a half years, off and on. Longest "hiatus" was 8 months straight. Been making really good progress recently!

– Danced to a song you are totally ashamed of enjoying… while no one else is in the house.
– Watched strippers for the express purpose of seeing their pole tricks
– Evaluated various spaces for pole usage (other homes, stages, churches, etc.)
– You read the Oglaf webcomic
– Gone to a rave/Burning man/Shambahla or other similar kind of event WITHOUT doing any drugs at all
– Gotten a pole-related tattoo

On the car ROOF? What happened to IN the car?
Now I have even MORE to add to the list of things I have to do before I die…

Hmm, are you rounding your back into a C shape, and pulling your belly in? You'd be surprised how much that makes a difference! It takes the load off your quads and transfers it to your core, which is much better able to handle the weight of your legs.
Also, keep in mind that you can have different levels of "straight," with this move. Trying to do Veena's version, where her feet are practically up by her ears (okay, not quite, but close!) is something I certainly cannot do! So, I just go for kind of straight forward, as high as I can, because I know my hamstrings are tight, and my muscles need strengthening.
I do this move usually as a static hold, and rarely try it as a spin. As I said, I have issues with momentum, and that's just with the general hold- Carousel, Carousel V, any of that. It's quite frustrating!
