Roffle! It would either be…C&C music factory (SWEAT, baby! Let the music take control…let the music move you!) OOooorrr…

    Nineh Cherry. Buffalo style. Yep.

Although, I didn't actually purchase those. If we're thinking the first album I actually purchased with my own money, that would be Dance Mix '96, from Much Music. Y'know, back when they were actually concerned with music!

Decisions, decisions…but I definitely want to start participating in the challenges!

Felt it a few times, so not to worry, it's all normal!

I found that, after a shortish break, such as when I got sick (two weeks off the pole) or something close to that, the next time I tried was horrible. I was shaking, weak, feeble and felt awful, I could barely do half my normal skillset, and trust me…that's not a lot! After that one, though, I felt WAY better, and I'm just getting better from there!

After a longer period of time (such as a couple of months) you'll find that your brain thinks it remembers how to do everything, but your body doesn't have the strength to do it. You've gotta be gentle with yourself, take it slow, try to take the time to work on those old moves you used to do, the ones you said "I'll improve on that later!" Especially after an injury, you have to be careful!

I look at everyone else's videos with envy, too! In my eyes, no one has too much fat, no one has cellulite, and everyone is beautiful, skilled, flowing and perfect. Except for me.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif But I'm working to change that!

Worst I've done is when I was learning about the CKR the first time, and I slipped right off the pole and hit the floor…hard! I landed on my lower back, which normally would sound bad, but my back is so crazy strong from carrying a backpack for most of my life, it didn't hurt me at all.

It did, however, wake my roommate, who was sleeping on the couch. He woke up, mumbled something at me about being okay, and when he confirmed I was fine, he fell asleep again. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Not too long after, I did achieve the CKR!https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Wow, this would be a fabulous idea! Your online lessons are GREAT and it's excellent that you can keep updating them, but DVD's of the moves you've got now would be wonderful!

Oh man, every time I'm somewhere with a lot of space and hardwood floors, I'm like "Gee, a pole would be great riiiight there!"

I'm going to be moving my mirror into my pole room today, so at least I get a little bit of that! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

February 27, 2011 at 3:40 pm in reply to: thigh rest…why oh why is it so hard??

Veena, I think I figured out my issue. I'm not really pressing with my thigh, and so I'm trying to rest everything on my arms, and I just can't do it. I'm not strong enough to lift my whole body with one arm!

So, this one is a bit of a lesson for me…how to engage things and press into the pole with different parts of the body properly!

Also, I watched the lesson a few more times, and I see what you mean by lifting my thigh first…I didn't understand what you meant before!

So, thank you for so much help! I'm gonna get this one, I swear!

Oh, and I'm getting it out of my head that this is even remotely related to the cradle spin. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

February 26, 2011 at 10:13 pm in reply to: How often do you record your pole work?

I've not recorded myself once since I've restarted, and I think I'm going to start doing so tomorrow. I'm so scared of recording myself, because I'm horribly critical of what I look like, or what I do! My husband could vouch for the fact that I rarely keep any of my writing "exercises" or false starts.

I think that if I was going to record myself, I would end up being totally down on myself, and I wouldn't want to go back to the pole. It really is that hard for me to look at myself and say "Yeah, that was pretty good."

However, I think video would be very helpful for a few things. I'm trying to work on a few moves (such as that danged thigh rest!) and I think if I recorded some video, perhaps I could figure out what I'm not doing correctly. Am I not engaging my arms? Am I not leaning back far enough? I don't know! The other thing is progress: how far into the splits am I getting, and how much flow and pretty moves am I adding? I'd love to know this…what happens if I come up with some random, fun thing I like, and I forget what it was? Video would help me with that.

Who knows, perhaps it would also help me with the body dysmorphia and self criticalness. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Polefairy, I had very tight hamstrings, and they've really been a nuisance all my life. You ever try doing yoga when you can barely get your hands past your knees? Ugh!

So, what my physiotherapist told me was this: Every day (seriously) when you're warm from exercising or a bath or whatever, find something about a foot high. Not too high. Maybe when you're in the shower, use the end of the bathtub (which is what I use), but not too high. Push your hips forward and don't bend your back. Be gentle, don't push too hard, and try to keep the stretch going for 30 seconds.

I'm serious, that's all you need. 30 seconds, be warm, foot not too high. Don' worry about pointing or flexing the foot, just try to keep it relatively neutral. For me, I find it helpful to keep pushing forward, because as my muscles relax, I stop feeling a stretch, so I can go a little bit more forward…but like I said, be gentle! Don't push it! If you feel intense pain, then don't go that far!

As testament to how well the simple way works: I can almost touch my toes when I'm cold. I'm really close, like maybe an inch and a half! I've NEVER been that close before!

I thought "The Roxy" was supposed to be the step around the pole thing that Roxy-Pink does so very well! Im still trying to figure it out! However, I think I've figured out some of my problem areas…

    Or, is this incorrect?

Also, yes, I'd love to see some other dismounts than the splits!

Oh! I thought I should be practically against the pole! I'll give it a go farther away, and see if that works better. I'm also thinking I'm not horizontal enough https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Lots of thanks, Veena!

Trying to! It doesn't seem to be able to "rest" very well. Perhaps I have my positioning wrong?

    Veena…

I'm trying to bring them into a tuck position, and depending on the leg I do first, the other one doesn't follow…it's holding my weight. Not fully extending the top arm. I just don't (apparently) have the strength to lift everything up in that position. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I have a similar issue…I just can't seem to get my legs up. I don't know if it's because I've got the grip wrong, or if I'm not strong enough, or something, but I just can't keep it up.

I would really like to have lessons in person again. They were super helpful! Even if you do have your own pole at home, well, they can still be really helpful. Usually around here, when I was taking lessons (and had money for them!) I could take the lessons, and then practice at home. I didn't, but that's what I should have done! They can teach you a lot of safety stuff, and get you going good and slow. Warm ups and cool downs also become ingrained, so they're part of your routine.
