The screws in my recess into the pole completely making the pole nice and smooth. I would guess something went wrong during set-up. I’d take it apart and inspect the parts to figure out what you need to change.

Agreed it will work. I’ve got taller ceilings than that 🙂 Call Xpole and ask them which extension you will need for that ceiling height. Sometimes it’s a combo of two extensions then taking one of the original poles out to get it just the right height. They are really helpful.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Day 1 complete. Also decided to hit the gym at the PD with hubby. I really want to start lifting. I think it will help with several aspects of pole.

@Tawnya, I bought the SV lessons 18 months ago then life happened and I barley used them. So this time around I did two things. #1 I waited for them to go on sale (Thank you Veena and Webby!) #2. I waited until I knew I’d have the time to follow through. Now if I will just stick with it. Maybe we can be accountable to each other…

Don’t laugh but I use the “zest” part of a grater. Yup, just a good old veggy/cheese grater from walmart. The stains are in the callous so if you get rid of the callous you get rid of the dirty look. I use a pumice stone if my heels aren’t too bad. Soak in the tub then when you get out go after those heels with your choice of tool. Then put a heavy moisturizer on your heels and a pair of cheep socks overnight. Nice, clean, soft heels.

Yeah, the burpees is why I want to train. If I fail an obstacle and have to do burpees I’m finished. That’s one reason I told hubby I need him to do it with me. He is 6’2″ and a power house. If he loses the extra weight and trains a little he’ll be able to help me so I don’t have to do burpees. I look forward to hearing how your race goes!

Have you tried a “green” exterminator? We have one in our area who has sprayed our home before. Sometimes we get earwigs really bad and it totally takes care of them. And BONUS your house smells all minty for a day. He wasn’t any more expensive than a regular exterminator. We didn’t have him come spray the cellar because a bug bomb was $10 and I was in a hurry (didn’t want to have to wait for a time he was able to come). Also, it seems like once you reclaim a space the spiders stick to the corners. They don’t like high traffic areas. And if a spider plopped on my face I’d probably have a heart attack so you are in good company.

Heber City has a pole studio. It would be just a couple minutes closer for you than Salt Lake City. Unless you just really want to get into the city for a little while. Heber is pretty small town. But the studio is nice and the owner/instructor is really great. It’s called “The Office”

Two words… Bug. Bomb. Make sure you get the kind that kills spiders. But be prepared, there will be dead arachnid bodies everywhere! Spiders you didn’t know you had will be dead. But then you can vacuum them up, sweep down the webs, and have a new pole space. Also a tiny tip. Paint. My cellar was a scary spider hovel and I got sick of it. But even after killing the spiders and cleaning it still felt like the same old scary cellar. So I painted. I picked a bright yellow for the walls and used a nice grey sealer/paint on the floor. The space feels totally different. No more creepy feeling when I go down there. It’s a new, fresh, usable space that I have reclaimed from the 8-legged creepy crawlies!

@Tamarinda, I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Thanks for the suggestions. I live in a rural farm town and love it…except for trying to find things like pilates or barre. It rocked our little community when we got a pole studio (it has a 4 poles and costs $$$). I have started doing a couple youtube pilates videos from a pretty popular gal. The compound movements make sense to me. I think polekat is right on with the “focus focus focus”. I guess hauling hay bales can count as a compound movement. Now to just focus on control and keeping my core tight while doing it….

Gel polish lasts the longest but if you don’t want to use anything chemical you can use baking soda to keep your toe nails white and a beeswax cuticle and nail creme to keep them shiny. Beautiful natural nails w/o the worry of your polish coming off on the floor.

I quit studio lessons about a year ago but I have a pole at home. However, buying new acreage has taken up all of my time (fences, weeds, trees, etc) so I haven’t done much pole. I’ve been working hard physically so I was surprised to find that I had *lost* so many pole moves. It is discouraging for sure. I’ve decided to give myself the summer off (just some “dancing” here and there rather than training) and get the SV lessons again this fall and start all over from day 1 of the 30 days. I am doing cardio this summer but that’s about it for any regular workouts (unless hauling hay and building fences counts). Good luck, you’ll get your strength back.

You can build a “header” to secure your pole against. If you can get into your attic/crawlspace above your ceiling you can build support between two beams. Adding lumber from one beam to the other. If you can’t get into where the ceiling joists are you can build a platform about the size of your xpole dome and attach it to the ceiling dead center over one of the joists. Also, call or email xpole. They are really good at helping out with things like this.

Being married to a Deputy has made me realize that our whole family is scrutinized and held to a higher standard than the average person. I’m guessing it’s the same with the military. If the “average joe” had this on their vehicle the comments would be different. But since it’s on the vehicle of a military person people are a lot more harsh. It’s totally unfair, and unless his superiors advise him to remove the sticker, just ignore the haters and be proud of your skill.
