My TG pole is super slippery unless it’s warm. I usually try to climb to the top a couple of times and slide down slow with “crucifix” legs. Also the warmup routines here on SV warm you and the pole up at the same time so they are great if you have the lessons. Once my TG pole gets warmed up a bit (and I get warmed up too) I stick great. TG is my favorite finish by far.

I’m the same personality type you are I think. I realize that I’m overworked and spread myself too thin. I also realize I need help. But I HATE delegating things to others. I like to make sure that it’s done the right way. The way I like it done. Makes it hard to hire help…

The studio I went to the owner was the main instructor. However, for the “intro” class (a one night class to get people interested in pole and see what it’s about) and the 8 week beginner course, she had other instructors. She hired two women who had been coming to the studio for a long time that she developed a friendship and trust with. She knew that they could handle these courses without worry. She would also sub or co-teach with them one or two nights on the 8 week course. Also, this left her with an option for a substitute teacher if she was going to be out of town for any of her other classes. She would just have the women go back to basics for a night or choose what they wanted to work on of the things they already knew.

As for answering emails, you’ve got to have a student with time to do that for you and who loves your classes enough to really encourage the people emailing you. Actually a student who is taking your classes might be the perfect person to answer emails. Someone who is taking your classes and enjoys them can pass on that love and enthusiasm to people wondering about pole. And any emails they can’t answer or don’t feel comfortable answering can be passed on to you.

Hope you find some balance soon. I know all too well what it’s like to be stretched as far as you can go just waiting to snap. It would be better to let go a little and hire a few people than to have your studio go down in quality (for you or the students) because you’ve run yourself ragged. Best of luck!

I fully agree about the benefits of yoga in regards to pole. I’m pretty new to the world of yoga so I am still taking classes at a studio. Actually the local recreation center. They are community classes and much less expensive than a yoga studio. However, they are taught by instructors from local yoga studios who want to make a couple extra bucks in their spare time so the quality of teaching is still the same. I’d like to eventually do my own practice at home but right now I’m enjoying learning new poses and sequences in class. Also, I’ve found that if I focus on my form and body alignment rather than pushing myself into the pose I get much more out of class. Hope that makes sense. I know there are some great videos and routines out there on the internet if you can’t make it to a studio class.

I like that pole can go both ways. You can wear sweat pants and a tank top and bust out some serious strength moves. Moves that leave people in awe of your ability to lift your self slowly off the ground until you are parallel. But you can also put on some booty shorts, heels, and a bikini top and rock the sexy, sensual, girl power aspect. I guess, for this reason, I don’t see the problem with competitions limiting wardrobe. As I understand it, there are some that do and some that don’t. I think, in a lot of aspects, it is good that pole is getting a cleaner reputation. It’s getting more women excited and interested in it. But I also believe that once you start, you realize that less clothes = more advanced moves. I think it helps women open up to their sexy side at whatever speed they are comfortable with.

Personally, the sheer strength that it takes to do some of these moves is what got me interested in the first place. The amazing confidence that comes along with pole was just an amazing fringe benefit. I am not a “prude” by any means, but two years ago I wouldn’t have been caught dead in booty shorts and a bikini top in front of other people. Now, I think I own more “pole” shorts than regular shorts.

I guess my point is that if some people only want the focus to be on the strength aspect then so be it. Far be it from me to force them to recognize the sensual side of pole. But I think that most people, even if they start out ignoring it, come to embrace and enjoy that sexy side. And for those of us who like it sexy from the get-go there are the “Bringing Sexy Back” competitions and pole expo 🙂

I may be in the minority but i just view it ass time to rest and slow down. We women run ourselves ragged all month. Then We feel guilty when we need to rest. I say do some yoga or stretching, relax, take a hot bath, and let your body rest. You deserve it.

I got my polar 4 two years ago and love it. I’ve replaced the watch battery once. It’s easy to do and the battery is $2 on Amazon. It’s always worked great and the chest strap is comfortable and not in the way of dancing. I actually workout harder when I’m wearing it because i like to see how many calories i burn. It’s also good for me because i tend to push my heart rate too high sometimes so I’ve set an alarm on it to let me know. For the price you can’t go wrong with polar.

I just started over with the basics because i was getting frustrated with the strength abd moves I’d lost from being off the pole. This is perfect! Just went through days 1-8. Will add this to my daily workouts. Thanks Veena! You keep me inspired.

Hubby liked the “Very Sexy, Touch and Dare”. Touch was my bodywash and Dare was my evening perfume if we were going out. They don’t make the Touch anymore 🙁

I’ll have to look up Lush products online. True that I won’t be able to smell them first though…

My biggest problem is I have a hard time with smells. Weird that I want scented body wash eh? That’s why I loved my VS body wash because it smelled amazing but didn’t give me a headache. I can’t use any tester lotions or products at Bath and Body works (odd since they are the sister company to VS). Shopping for fragrances is often overwhelming for me because after a few sniffs of some obnoxious ones I just can’t take anymore. I really really don’t do sweet or vanilla scents.

Hoping I can get some ideas of what to look for and what to just skip over. Thanks guys for the imput, keep it coming.

I would probably remove my pole for company if it were in my living room. Two reasons. #1 being I have a tiny house. #2 being that I would hate for company to feel uncomfortable in my home. I hate when people “force” their world on you. Just because I believe something to be fantastic doesn’t mean I expect others to. No reason to stick it in their faces. I believe that we live in a world where we tend to force others to accept our beliefs and visa versa. Just because you put your pole away doesn’t mean your are feeling shame or trying to hide yourself. It just shows a respect for others. JMHO.

Beautiful bird cage Caribbean. You’re husband is a talented man.

My grip is pretty much the “pole hold” on the SV gallery. I’ll try to post a video after I take my son to school.

Saved your site to my bookmarks! Love your work. Very clean. Way better than I’m ever to do with PS. My stuff never comes out that clean looking. I’m working on a couple of moves I’d like photographed then I’ll need to contact you for some “tropical” backgrounds if possible.

I second being jealous of that knee hold. Nice job!

DS got up early today so while he ate his breakfast I did a quick 20 min workout. Squats, lunges, leg lifts, half moon crunches, laying princess kicks, pole crunches, and carousel kicks. Then worked on a couple of simple spins, climbs, and pole sits. I’m also on track with my eating today. I’ve started logging calories again and so far so good. Even on the days I go over I make sure to log it. It helps me not “justify” junk foods.

My little bro (27yo) and I are planning on doing a half marathon together next year so I’ll be adding running to my workout schedule. Taking DS and his friend to the Rec Center this afternoon so I’ll put in a little time on the track while they play.

Wow I’ve been out of touch! Had to read up on how everyone was doing. Halloween is big time around our house so it’s been a crazy week. With tomorrow being Nov 1st I’m getting back on track. I’m also back on MFP to keep myself accountable over the holidays. Happy Halloween everyone!
