Thanks Ladies 😉
I think I might experiment with the 45s at the studio for a while and see how it feels.
I really do like to 50mm, but if it's going to be harder for gripping moves, i might have to invest in a 45mm too.
It's a drag, but i do have the space for it, so might as well give it a try!
Both of the poles I have right now are 50mm.
This may lead to another thread actually… as i'm totally curious as to what kind of pole my first purchase was.
I bought it from craigslist, it was advertised with Xpert pictures and i made the stupid assumption that it was an Xpole Xpert. Although it's a great pole, it's clearly not an Xpole… to be honest, I have no idea what it is as I haven't seen another pole that looks like it!
Perhaps i'll post some pics and see if anyone knows what the heck it is!

Thanks for the feedback ladies! 🙂
I'm a pretty small gal and my little paws do have to overcompensate on the 50 for sure, but thats the size I've learned on right from the get go at the studio and it's also what I have at home.
I'm just begining to realize that it is quite difficult to complete any kind of really "hand grip" focused move/spin/trick with such tiny hands on a 50mm.
You're probably right about the thigh/leg holds being easier on a 50mm though, there's just more to grab obviously 🙂
One of the studios I go to has a couple of 45mm's, i'm going to give them a shot next time i'm there 🙂

Hello! 🙂
I started taking lessons in Mid Sept of 2010. What a rush! Although i've been working out off and on for a couple of years, it did not help at all when it came to having any upper body strength whatsoever haha.
I took pole class once a week for about a month and made a little bit of progress with simple spins, fireman, ballerina, backwards hook, as well as a few dance moves, but nothing spectacular. Still loved it though! Started picking up 1 extra class a week as well as a class called "core flow" and that's when it started to happen.
Core Flow is kind of a yoga fusion and man did it help! I went from doing minor spins, and dance fill to doing actual controlled floor work as well as inversions. It was a beutiful thing!
a combination of Yoga/pilates + pole lessons (veena's lessons) will definitely help you build that upper body strength. I find that a really good strength builder is going from "downward dog" yoga position, right into a "plank" position. Back and forth, slowly and controlled around 5- 10 times. Might sound easy to some, but MAN that will work that back and those arms out!!
I'm def. NOT much of a yoga person, my flexability was awful to start, but it has helped my pole practice come along leaps and bounds!
I have two poles at home currently.:) however I find that sometimes I need my butt kicked and thats where lessons, in an actual class environment, come in handy.
You'll have a much more difficult time saying NO to classes that you've paid for, and if you have an encouraging teacher by your side, the adrenaline rush you'll get will push you to do things you didn't think you could to 🙂
sorry i'm such a scatterbrain!!! hehe

I use brass for class and have been totally spoiled by it! However the TG Xpert Xpole that I recently got has been working wonders!
It's nice to have the spinning option if you like doing a lot of static hold it makes everything look very graceful and flowing.. does take some getting used to though!
Had a great experience with Xpol customer service. Ordered it on a Friday and had it in my hands the following Tuesday and that was even during a holiday! Not bad!

Excellent! I have classes on Mon / Wed, next week is super busy at work so i might be stuck here late.. but perhaps the week after?? 🙂

With a background in Gynastics/Yoga I bet you're killing it! 🙂
Youtube is def a great place to learn from. The amount of talented guys/gals out there is pretty ridiculous and very inspiring. The Xpole is a lovely pole to learn on 🙂
Pole studios can def be expensive! I feel you there. I have a membership at Leslieville/downtown Toronto aradia, a little spendzy per month, but in signing up for the year, they cut you kind of a break price wise. it includes unlimited classes too which is great! Sometimes it's great to have a teacher there to kick your butt and make you try things that you normally wouldn't on your own.
Lemme know if you're ever in town looking to practice 🙂 I share a house with a pole dancing friend and we like to try new things upstaris on the xpole when we can

The beaches are great 🙂
Do you take pole classes anywhere??
-
I'm in the beaches (east Toronto) 🙂
Do you come into town at all??
-
Love the TG 50mm! Haven't had an issue with it, this far in, but I have read about the issues that some peeps are having 🙁
It's a great pole! If you get one, just make sure that it feels safe and secure before using it. Xpole is usually really good with customer service if you do have a problem.
Fingers crossed for you!!!!!!

Will ahve to look into it!

Starsky,
lemme know if you ever come in for a pole jam 🙂
-
I'm going to have to get a lift out to Burlington/Hamilton to check out these pole jams! 🙂 I'm still a beginner, so i'm sure i'm pretty useless, but i'd love to learn from fellow polers 🙂
Starsky, where abouts are you??
