I didn't know it was a possibility to pay an instructor to give lessons online! How cool. I am no help but I am interested in the responses, too.

That's a great idea! Not only does it give recognition to our efforts as dancers and athletes, but it would give us the opportunity to get to know our fellow polers better. Love it!

    Hi Glitterhips–

I just watched the video of your performance. I think anyone who knows anything about poles would know that the less-than-stellar spins at the beginning were not due to your lack of skill! The difference in how you looked from one pole to the other was huge. I think it's clear that you are pretty talented, and that the first pole just wasn't working out for you. Cuz you did great on the second pole. I imagine the judges saw the same thing and that's why you placed so well. 🙂

Try not to get too down on yourself! You were fucking cute as a bug and it was entertaining as hell, even if the tricks weren't everything you hoped for. Be proud! 😀

omg these are all wonderful and SO true! I'll try not to repeat any.

if you go to a gay bar and tip the dancers excessively because you realize none of the other customers can actually appreciate how difficult some of those moves were!

if you drive three hours to/from pole class on a school night every week because you just HAVE to dance with other people!

if you make your new roommate agree that the dining room is now a pole room before you move in.

if your living room has some stategically-placed mirrors that just HAPPEN to line up with where you put your pole up

if people walk into your apartment and say, "wow, you have a lot of mirrors in here." heh.

if you won't wear a bikini to the pool but you'll post half-clothed videos on the internet for people to see and critique

if people think you're a really boring person because when they ask, "so what do you do for fun?"  you don't want to explain pole dancing, so you just go with the standard "uhmm nothing really…" (Whatever, *I* know I'm awesome!)

if you go out to buy new clothes but come home and realize all you got was more workout gear

if you'd rather stay in and watch pole dancing videos than go out to the bars with your friends

if your friends aren't weirded out that you text them half-naked pictures of yourself ("Check out my new move!")

if your friends think you're really badass because even though they work out, you work out and are SEXY

  • In my head I consider myself a pole dancer, but I'm not comfortable going around and announcing that as my title until I'm confident I could pull off some really impressive trick or routine that would make people go, "Yup, she is definitely a pole dancer." Something that someone who did dance or gymnastics couldn't hop on the pole for the first time and do.

I meant to add– I think you could have a lot of success with those workouts with general fitness people, but for a lot of SVers, poling is our only form of fitness. We are slightly workout illiterate, I think! 😛

I appreciate the effort, but I too would not use those images because I don't understand the names! Perhaps in each post you can explain the moves, and then attach the image at the end for easy reference once people know what's going on.

ok I know it wasn't the point of the video, but I get so jealous when guys try to pole dance! He was actually not that bad, and it's because they're so strong to begin with. Like, I worked so hard to hang with one hand, and he does it in a spoof video. Same with Nick Cannon after LuLu's performance on America's Got Talent!

Other than that, it was funny.. It's just frustrating how guys can do these things on a first try. I feel like it makes us look bad, or discredits how much work we put into it. I know I can't show off my skills to my friends until I'm super badass because otherwise someone could hop on the pole and do the same move with perhaps just less finesse.

    ok I'm done being a downer! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Question– is the chopper basically the V-invert?

    ooh, my apologies! I didn't understand. 😛

So I just got on my pole to see what I did for the initial step up, and I think most of making it look pretty is using your arms for the step up. I point my toe and then press the top of my foot/ankle into the pole for support while i use my arms to pull my body up. Also important is to push off with the other leg.

I'm a newbie though, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I hope it's not considered "jumping." https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif but like Veena says in her lessons, theres a push and a pull. The pull is with the arms and the push is with the second leg.

    😐 I hope this helped at least a little…

Stores like TJ Maxx and Home Goods usually have large mirrors on the cheap. They'll come framed, though. An option I've been considering is buying three or four of the over-the-door mirrors (like this http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Beveled-Door-Mirror/21156245&nbsp😉 that they sell so cheaply this time of year and just hanging them side by side.

When I was buying college stuff they were selling them at target for 4 bucks a pop, which is hard to argue with.
