Thankyou jastmal I’m gonna try that, I enjoy straddle stretches but it seems impossible to get chest to floor, I can’t reach out well without hubby holding my back down gently

Oh if you got it the first time you'll definetly get the right form with practice! I had heaps of good days and bad while practicing 🙂 I find that even now if I go to carthweel or handspring and I doubt myself or feel scared right before kicking up, I dont' get up.  It's half mental state I reckon! I try to just go for it and feel brave and I imagine getting my legs up and over myself

Thanks lovelies!!!! I feel better lol 🙂 hookedonpole – YES Thats so what I do! I do cartwheel mounts and fun hard things at the start, then later at the end when I've done other holds and things I want to just do 1 or 2 more coz I want to see "I still have it" and I can't get up sometimes cos im so tired, and then I think I've lost it LOL.  I'm a loser haha!! I should stop trying to redo them at the end me thinks

This is my awful attempt at an Allegra, and as close as I got.  Most times I can't even get that far cos of the pain it causes on my ribs/mid back! And releasing the top leg seems impossible!

To keep my balance I focus on pulling in HARD with the top arm, thats my anchor.  Have you tried a jackknife? Both legs leaning over the body together.  I find that even easier than Ayesha sometimes! Maybe that will help you get a feel for the weight on that side of the body, and then handspring into Ayesha issue of that leg hitting the pole might sort itself out.  Or you could jackknife, then bring the top leg back over slowly so you end up in Ayesha

Hmm lets see if I can explain it, if I cartwheel up, that motion of getting up (head down, legs up) puts me in a perfect position to balance my split grip for ages.  but if I handspring up (head up and back, legs up) it seems to bring me around the other side of the pole more and I loose balance a lot quicker/my upper arm has a harder time pulling me in towards the pole.  Maybe I'm just odd! I feel more comfy going into a straight edge though as opposted to Ayesha, I have a harder time balancing with legs spread in a V

This thread is just what I needed! I have been trying to get my side splits for about half a year now and stuck about 3-4 inches from the floor on one side, and awful on the other.. 7 or so inches! I stretch about 3 times a week for about 45 minutes, a combo of my own stretches that I enjoy and then one of veenas splits videos.  I feel disheartened that I can't get down yet, but I am 28 and NEVER did any stretching or exercise before this year, and as a kid did no sports.  So I guess its a big change for my body.  I used to be SO far from touching my toes when reaching down it was ridiculous, now I can touch toes and it feels comfortable.  In a sitting pike I can hold my feet and my head can touch my knees on a good day.  Splits is still to come, I'm just seeing it as another "stretch" and not THE SPLITS!!! and will just keep trying to improve that stretch like I have others

Thanks polergirl!! I stop practise when I get to that point, but yeah I hate ending on a bad note if you get my drift! 🙂

I think we definetly learn tricks faster in the beginning cos they are easier and more attainable? I learnt sooo many tricks in my first 6 months and then BAM I was just practising the same tricks and failing at getting new ones.  I was pretty happy cos I can do a Handspring and Carthweel Mount and a Jackknife which are the last few videos in Veenas advanced section, but I was still craving new tricks.  I finally got a few new ones in the last month (so like 6 mths of no new tricks, lol) I got lunchbox, pencil (off pole, cant get into it from the floor), hood ornament and swan holds.  I DREAM of one day getting Jade, Allegra and Knee hold.  3 more tricks, 3 tricks that seem IMPOSSIBLE!

I also find Allegra extremely painful, and Can't even release the top leg 🙁

Hello! I find Cartwheel into Ayesha much easier than Handspring into Ayesha, I find that I can't hold it as long or as balanced if I enter via a Handspring, it puts me off balance sorta?? I haven't had the issue of the leg falling back into the pole, I just focus on stepping far under myself, flicking up and opening my legs… I can show you a video of me doing it if you want?
