Girl you are not alone at all. There is a huge percentage of polers who don’t have supportive family, friends and significant others. It’s a touchy topic for some and a hard thing for some men to get into. I still haven’t been able to figure out why. Still researching that, LOL. Don’t let it get you down though and don’t quit. Try expressing to the BF how you feel about pole and how much it hurts you when he puts you down for doing it. One thing I have learned from my own situation as well as others is that if a man truly cares about your happiness …he’ll get over it. And if not….he’s just a Boyfriend right? As far as spotting goes, I really haven’t thought about it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif Its very important that you have a great amount of control when you SM then you can work on the flip SLOWLY. My first SMF I was squatting and working on it from way down low. Stay tucked in a ball when you start. Also, I didn’t began working on the Shoulder flip until I had become very comfortable with all of my Shoulder moves, I have I few variations I teach in the lessons. I think the super invert is the most important to be comfortable with. This is when you SM and hold the position like so

This is the grip I use for the Shoulder Flip https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif It gives you a lot of control at the top of the move.

I’m gonna have to try the Veena grip. I’m scared to death of snapping my arm off when I flip in a princess grip lol. Especially since apparently my bones are pretty brittle. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Don’t worry, I have video of him putting a hurting on that cake. I have proof that he used to hang out with us, incase he tries to deny us when he blows up. LOL

    Hi Mindy,
I watched your video too and I think you’re really close. Balance is really important for the inverted split grip stuff but you also use strength in your core and upper body to hold that balance. I think you’re definitely strong enough, you just need to keep practicing. Practicing taking one leg off first, then a little bit of the other, then more and more until they’re totally off. If you go into an inverted split grip with your knees bent and holding onto the pole you’ll be in a tucked position and can just practice opening your legs and keeping them open for longer and longer. Squeeze squeeze squeeze with your hands, engage your chest and back and don’t forget to breath. Exhale as you go into the move.

I’m gonna have to try those shorts out. I found some amazing Danskin ones at Walmart for $5. I bought a bunch and sold em on Ebay. I actually found a few extra pairs that I thought I had sold, but didn’t. Maybe I’ll list them again…

I think I know what you’re talking about. Alethea taught it to us in her Sexy Flexy workshop last year at the East Coast regionals. She had us hook a knee pit on the pole (while on the floor, butt kind of up off the floor in the air) and then we swung the free leg back and around to give momentum to swing up onto the pole. It’s a transition move from the floor to the pole. Does that sound like what you mean? I don’t think it has a name. I think it’s more of a transitional thingy.

Hi Skittles, et al. I enjoy this move and was impressed with Alethea’s. Its called chopstix. There’s a video on this site of Karol instructing someone (I think Ottersocks maybe?) how to perform this move in a variation which keeps one hand on the pole. I recently picked this move up and its the most recent video on my SV profile. I cannot get into this move as quickly or as gracefully as Alethea does, but I’m going to keep trying to improve mine and hopefully flatten it a little more.

I would just like to say that I’ve NEVER seen anyone do this move better than David. If you haven’t seen his video where he does it, go look.

    I second that!

I agree with what Chem said. You don’t have to be advanced to own a studio or to teach pole, but eventually you’re going to need somebody advanced to teach your students for when they become advanced.

I’ve been wanting to try this too, but I’m also concerned with the grip after the flip cuz I use the princess grip and have no idea how that will work out LOL.

Jenna have you tried them on? Are you happy with the fit?
You know I’m constantly on the prowl for good pole clothes to sell.

I keep forgeting to tell you. Danskin has sport panites – perfect for pole. I have 2 pairs, no ride up, fits well in the thigh.

I guess you missed all the ranting I was doing about how great the danskin shorts are. I bought like 30 pairs on sale at walmart an resold them on eBay. I love them. I have a pair in every color. I’m trying to become a danskin dealer but I don’t know if they’re going to agree. They may bot want their product associated with such a "scandalous" form of dance.

I moisturize with neutrogena oil early in the morning before work (around 6am) and I normally pole in the evenings (around 8-ish) so the slipperyness is gone by then but my skin is still moist enough to stick. If you’re too dry you’ll slide just as much as if you were covered in oil….well some people do…not everyone, I guess. LOL

There’s a "cheat" way to get into it? I thought the move was the trick, not the entry into it.

I get into it from hiphold or a pike mostly, sometimes from a gemini.
