This is some good info. I’m having problems with my gemini too and I’m going to try all of this stuff out!

I don’t know what a hip hold or teddy bear is either https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Haha Sissy you’re so funny! I had similar issues in the beginning, except for me it was the opposite- i didn’t mind so much my boyfriend watching me practice moves (except for the very 1st day, when i had no clue what it’d be like).. but i really felt awkward dancing with the pole in front of him, even though i dance my ass off in front of him when we go out. Now i’ve gotten more used to it, and i actually wish he would watch me more.. I totally agree with FreeTheSun- watching the practices does kind of take the "awe" out of the performances, at least tricks-wise. But dancing is another story- i think a performance can still be extremely impressive if you learn to incorporate smooth and/or sexy dancing into your performance- even if the practicing and mess-ups have been seen a thousand times.

Maybe you could just tell him that you just want to get a few practices in before he watches you? I mean, that is totally reasonable! But don’t worry, i’m sure that the better you get, the more confident you will be, and you’ll soon want to show off the new spins you’ve learned, not to mention he could be an excellent source for spotting for later moves! Unless you just want to surprise him with a performance- i see nothing wrong with just straightout telling him that you don’t want him to see you practice so that it can be more interesting for him to watch once you’ve learned a few things!!

I agree Azriel. I’ll just practice while he’s watching his boring educational history channel shows LOL. But I do totally plan on using him as a future spotter LOL. I can already picture him hoisting my butt up in the air when I start trying for a shoulder mount https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I just got my pole yesterday and the first thing I started practicing was sitting because I know it kills the thighs and from what I’ve read you just gotta keep doing it until the pain gets tolerable. I’m inspired by other people who can do it and say that it hurt when they first started too. I say to myself I’ll get to that point of painfreeness eventually…..I hope…… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_neutral.gif

    Keep at it!

    Welcome!
Just like everyone says, we all learn at a different pace, so don’t be haaangry!

Of course, the most important thing is to go make a video right now and post it. Because people sure have been slacking lately on new posts. And I need new videos to watch! GIMME.

    Hi and welcome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I agree with Veena about taking it wasy when you first start. It sounds like you had some pretty bad injuries in some pretty important places. Have fun but remember to listen to your body https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I know you’re frustrated and apparently holding yourself at a very crazy fast learning standard, but I just went and checked out your videos and as s true beginner I want to say. "Are you serious?!" LOL!!!

Glitter you are the shit! You got moves for days! I honestly plan on watching your videos to learn from.

And as far as your size is concerned, I think maybe you do need to go to a couple of classes to see just how "normal" sized you are. I have seen much heavier girls than you do a whole lot of stuff that I could never imagine doing. I agree with an earlier post that mentioned shelving it. Give it a break and come back to it later. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Foxy I had a similar issue with my hubby when I first started pole dancing. He would fuss and moan and roll his eyes everytime I went to a class. He would make me feel bad and say that I wasn’t setting a good example for my daughters. That by going to classes out side of my home I was setting a bad example and teaching my kids that it’s alright to be a stripper or something (not that I have a problem with women stripping lol but he did). He really hit me in my soft spot and I stopped going although I wanted to soooo bad. Eventually I started sneaking, I would go during my lunch break or after work and tell him I was going to the gym. It felt so stupid to have to sneak to do something I liked and felt wasn’t a big deal for my kids to see. He would see me watching pole dance videos on youtube and tell me I shouldn’t let the kids see.

Eventually (for other reasons) we seperated. But had if I to do it over again I would have expressed how much it meant to me to do it and do whatever I could to improve. My hubby and I are now working on reconciling and one of the first orders of business was that I like to pole. It makes me happy and I’m going to do it. he finally accepted it and even bought my pole for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Finally! LOL

I do plan on posting videos to help me improve and I plan on showing him eveyrthing early on and letting him know so that he feels like it’s a group decision. I think you and your hubby are making a good compromise. Letting him feel like he has a say and that his opinion matters is a big part of helping him to get comfortable with it. Eventually this will probably resolve over time (you are still pretty new) and maybe he’ll even join you in a video one day LOL.

My hubby still rolls his eyes when I say it’s for fitness LOL, I guess he’ll never know till he trys and invert or a shoulder mount https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

In addition to stretching everyday, there are other things, especially nutritional, that can help with flexibility.. here are some things that i’ve read (and hope are true so that i’m not giving out flase statements):

    1) Caffeine & alcohol hinder flexibility (probably by dehydrating the body), so avoid/limit consumption of both.
    2) Drink loads and loads of water so your muscles don’t dehydrate and your joints stay lubricated.
    3) Taking spirullina (green algae) vitamins/capsules aid flexibility.
    4) Taking MSM capsules (good for joints) in combination with vitamin C helps to repair the tears in your muscles caused by stretching, thus allowing for further stretching more quickly.
    5) Eating raw (or as raw as you can) green leafy veggies helps with flexibility, as well as being really good for your body in general.
    6) Breathing deeply and slowly while stretching will give better results. Also, push slightly more into your stretch while breathing out.
    7) Make sure to warm up before stretching, or stretch at the end of your workout.

If anyone has anything else to add please do so, and please correct anything that i may be mistaken on!!!

Thanks so much Azriel! I’m really going to start trying to stretch everyday. I think I used to be a lot more flexible before I started lifting. I haven’t been stretching very well since I focused more on weight training than running. I’m about to start back up running though (got a big race this fall) so I’ll add in stretching before and after my runs.

I got the email from the webmaster, I was looking in the wrong email account https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif

But I can now stalk my pole happily! It will be here on Wednesday….earlier I hope LOL.

I’m sure I’ll love it Rouge. Every here seems to enjoy theirs which is part of the reason why I chose that one.

Hey Veena….is there a way I can get tracking info for my pole? I haven’t gotten an email or anything letting me know when it was shipped or when it will arrive.

    I want to stalk it and I can’t https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
