I feel lucky to not have had this type of problem on facebook. I think it’s because all of my friends and family know I pole and how serious I am about it. All of my guy friends respect the strength it takes and alot of my female friends either wanna try it someday or have no interest but appreciate the skill it takes to do it.

I think once your friend realizes what it is and what we do and that it’s a serious hobby for you, you’ll retract her statement. Especially after she watches those videos. LOL

Can you do an aerial invert?

Is the problem inverting or holding yourself in a chopper once you’re inverted?

    Happy Valentines Day ALL,

I am relatively new to poling and I am just now learning of the different competitions and such. I just missed out on trying to get to the upcoming one in NY because I saw there was only two tix but different seats that I could see. So I am trying to prepare and save up for the next big event. Could anyone feel me in on some upcoming major events/competitions like the one in NY. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Thanks

    USPDF is sold out?

omg how did i miss this thread??! Sissy you’re gonna do great! It’s natural that you may have lost some of your technique while you were in your cast, but thank goodness for muscle memory, you’ll have it back way before the competition! But honestly though, I saw what you could do while you were still IN the cast, & hadn’t poled in over 2 weeks & it still looked like you had never been off the pole anyway!!!! Just focus on practicing the tricks you plan on using for your routine. I also think it’s normal to have last minute self-doubts, but you gotta remember how awesome you are!! and i agree about the having fun part- focusing on having fun instead of on winning will make you less nervous & more confident, and this will show through in your dancing!
Good luck girl i’ll be cheering for you from all the way across the atlantic!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I wish I could set up my little netbook in there so you could watch LOL. I wonder if they’d let me do that…

Im bringing my camcorder and having a friend record it. Im not sure about your netbook but you could ask. If not Ill have my friend record your performance and I can send you your routine or post it here on SV.

I didn’t mean to record it, I meant to stream it live. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Thank you ms Sissybuns
I figure I’m good even if there is a problem because I have perfected the art of crashing without injuries(I crash at just about everything I do), but I brought a friend the first night who happens to be pregnant, so that wound up being majorly uncool, so I haven’t brought her back, but I have been woried about muscle damage, and joint damage because since I started 3 weeks ago I’ve gotten something like shin splints in my forearms from doing what I think yall call the boomerang and some shoulderblade pain from spins so I’m scouring the forums for saftey tips on the things I probably shouldn’t be doing. Are there any moves upside down or sideways that should be jumped into?

If you’re getting pain from boomerang like spins you might need to back off a bit and work on some other things until you build up more strength for the split grip. I see a lot of people who hurt themselves while doing split grips repeatedly or too quickly. My bestie punkrocgirlie was one of them. She hadn;t been poling very long (just like you) before she started busting out al kinds of moves that require that grip and before you know it she was injured and had to take a break from that move for weeks.

The same with the shoulder. Listen to it.

Also are they making sure you’re nice and warm before you guys start spinning? Spinning with cold muscles can definitely lead to injury and sometimes it takes some people longer then others to warm up. I’m one of those people. I seem to take like twice as long as most people LOL.

umm not to ask a stupid question but how exactly can you hurt yourself inverting before your ready, or kicking up into inverts because at the studio I go to because that’s all we do, you invert on your first night and go from there,(i first got suspicious when we were told we can’t fall like that) but I tend to research more than most people i have class with so I don’t want to do something that will do more damage than shin splints in my arms(if anyone knows anything about that I would love to know) because being that far out of commission would not be cool.

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif They have you inverting on the first day??? Seriously?

    Wow.

The list of possible injuries could go on and on but some of my main concerns are bruising/breaking a rib from banging it against the pole while jumping.
Pulling/tearing a muscle anywhere, arm, abs, back, obliques….
Falling if you jump up there and can’t catch yourself
Banging toes, shins, legs against the pole while you try to throw a foot up there

These are just a few that I could think of. An invert should be slow and controlled. You should be able to do it from the floor or from standing without having to kick or jump up. It’s more of a tilt back then a jump up, ya know?

It seems people have been popping up with a boat load of tendonitis and muscle strains lately. This can be caused by stress and overuse. As far as preventing this make sure your students pace themselves and don’t progress too quickly. Make sure they build up adequate strength and arent jumping/running/swinging into things they shouldn’t be jumping/running/swinging into and stress the them the importance of rest. I know we all wanna be hardcore and pole everyday but when your body is telling you it needs a break….listen.

    How exciting!

I wonder what type of pole you’ll learn from a male circus poler. I bet he’s got some super amazing tricks!

Thanks guys! You are all so suportive. You have no idea how much that means to me. I was so nervous but I told myself to pretend like I’m dancing for you guys. Like it’s a studioveena challenege and I’m making a video for my peeps. If the audience was filled with your smiling supportive faces they’d have to drag me off the stage. LOL

It looks like I might be able to wear some shoes. I tried some out on saturday and it felt ok. I’m a little unsteady on my feet so I gotta work on that but at least I don’t have to worry about trying to point my toes on a foot that doesn’t even point yet. LOL

I thought the theater was on the upper east. oh shit!

angel I think the rooms at the w are similar in price and it seems that’s where most folks are staying.

I think if you’re doing it from a split grip it should be a pretty simple transisition. I haven’t tried it myself because I just recently got my aysha and it’s not consistent, but in my mind it seems feasible. Doesn’t it? LOL

I hate to see that there has been so much drama over something so simple as women giving workshops to other women that want to learn. If the girls are available and it doesn’t interfere with their USPDF commitments, I don’t understand why USPDF won’t allow them to teach at other locations in their spare time, especially if the workshops for USPDF are all filled already. I’m hoping that there is some other reason that makes more sense that hasn’t surfaced yet. Cuz this seems pretty messed up.
