Please don't get disheartened! As my name suggests I'm a slow learning. We started inverting after maybe 6 months. It took my about 10 weeks to even get upside down and a year on I'm still developing it and making it stronger.
I've been at it nearly 2 years and I still can't do 1-handed spins and I'm now only just confident enough to do a beginner's routine with transitions etc. Even though I can do more intermediate/advanced moves I don't have the stamina to string them together.
Eventually you'll find types of moves you're good at and become a pro at them (I'm the thigh holds because I have big thighs!). I nearly quit so many times but just on the brink of quitting I'd get something new and it'd pull me back in.
Chin up Swilks 🙂 it's all for the fun and as everyone has said, don't compare yourself to others because once your repertoire gets bigger people will be looking to you as the gospel on certain moves! And you'll be better at teaching/guiding them because you struggled the same way they are! x

@ nikalyn – "You also want to make sure that you don't tilt your outside hip toward the pole when you invert-v"
This is the bit I can't manage. I have lower back damage and don't know if it's just not strong enough….? It take most of my strength to raise my knees to my chest while holding on that I don't understand how to do the hip tilt bit….

To clarify "Shirleys" are only the angry ones!!

LMAO! This made me chuckle so much! I work in computer crime so I too see a lot of vaginas….though for a very different reason!! We call them "Shirleys" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
I'm fine with feeling sexy until I see photos or videos….there's thinking you're dancing like a sexy mo-fo then there's seeing what you actually look like!! x

But of course safety first!

MemberJune 24, 2013 at 2:10 pm in reply to: omg plz help basic invert when doing why do i slid dwnPerhaps I disagree because I still kinda suck at inverts but I don't think you should be discouraged just because you kick into it. I still kick into mine a bit about 8 months on but I have noticed that my invert is getting stronger by practicing inverting!!
Also, once I'm up there, I can do a load of moves….even though my initial basic invert isn't the strongest.
With that being said, please use a spotter when starting out if you're not massively strong with it. I got stronger at inverting through classes where I had a "butt shover" who helped me push my hips up – which I've now learned to do myself.
I guess what I'm saying is practice makes perfect and if you don't practice inverting how are you going to perfect it? 🙂 x

"The whole, don't eat advice, always pissed me off."
Couldn't agree more. I went on SSRIs for about 4 months at the end of last year and I felt better so I came off them expecting the weight to come off, albeit I was realisitic that it would take time. I waited 3 months, saw a nutritionist, kept up all my exercise and put on a pound. I got all bloods done and when I was told all was normal I burst into tears so dr suggested my mood was the probem….feel stuck in a bit of a catch22 situation!!
I feel like I'm a prisioner at the moment because all I'm doing is obsessing about eating and exercising but this is obviously causing me stress so it's peretuating the problem…..just feeling a bit hopeless.
Thanks for sharing your stories it really helps to hear that I'm not alone and that pople have overcome or are coping wih the same problem!!

I think it's great. I can understand your intrepidation at telling a son but I'm afraid I can't offer a perspective on that.
I text my mum, dad, sister & gran photos of my pole moves and my dad proudly shows them to people who acknowledge and admire the athleticism involved. If he's physically active he will very quickly realise it's not all about shaking your money maker and it mostly about injuring yourself with bruises galore in the pursuit of greatness!!
Good Luck! x

After my 1st class I cried my eyes out. I felt so fat, so weak, couldn't do anything and even managed to cut my foot open on the pole fixture!!
It almost became a feeling of "I'll show you" and although I've had slow progress I've now been going for 8 months and love it so much! Slow and steady wins the race!
Please don't give up. If you can find some bravery to post photos/videos of your progress you'll be amazed how much of a boost the lovely Veena-ers comments will give you and you'll soon be losing your self esteem issues! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hello, I am a neighbour from the North living in the deep saaaf (Kent).
Welcome along!
I DREADED going to classes. I do NOT do shorts because I have big big thighs but it's actually given me a lot more confidence! Hopefully it'll do the same for you xhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Thanks for everyones advice. I do pilates and I can hold my core when static, ie I can do plank and laybacks etc.
What I have problems with is engaging it on a dynamic way…does that make sense. So tightening it and using it to make my body move, for inverts, handstands and what not.
