I am so glad to know that I am not alone! Thank to everyone for the suggestions and I will make myself freestyle, even though I’m making the gag face thinking about it! I do think that will help a lot. If nothing else, it will help me to actually let go and move to music, even if it’s all pirouettes and simple spins 🙂 (I feel comfortable with static that I can freestyle a bit, but when it comes to spin pole, I can’t even think of anything to do) Thanks again!

Have you tried doing one straight leg and one bent, until up? It’s easier to me to tell one leg to point than both legs to point both feet. Im still pretty shoddy at cartwheel mount, so Im pretty sure I don’t really have any authority to say anything useful 🙂

I think I have my costume together, my song chosen, but I re-injured my arm, so I may have to wait until Nov to do my Oct challenge 🙁

Yep, HIIT means High Intensity Interval Training . As an example: going all-out on burpees for 50 sec with 10 sec rest in between. HIIT workouts usually aren't too awful long, since you are going all out on the work phase. I guess pole can be considered interval training, but usually HIIT gets heart rate up into or near anaerobic zone for work, and down into aerobic zone for rest. I guess I just haven't gotten that much anaerobic cardio from pole. It works strength like gangbusters, and I do get good aerobic cardio from dancing through songs, but not much on anaerobic side of things. So I guess my answer is: it depends on how you workout on the pole 🙂

I started poling in February, and I got a Chrome xpole in March. I will be honest, I was frustrated for a month or two. I could go to class at a studio, which had stainless poles, and perform a move or pose, and then come home unable to do it. I would slip down the pole. I have gotten used to it, and honestly prefer my own pole, but it was rough for a bit. I did have a bit of victory though in learning to play on the chrome. I kept thinking, "If I learn on a slippery pole, I will be able to use any pole and not rely on grip aids." It took a bit to break in the pole then get familiar with it, but I use it all the time and then not worry too much about grip on other poles I use. I do use grip aids on occasion, alcohol it every session (multiple times, if learning something new) and steam clean the pole every now and then to keep it grippy. The studio I go to has 2 chrome xpoles that nearly everyone else will avoid because the poles are "too slippery," but I usually don't have any troubles with them. I have never used a brass pole, so I don't really know how they compare. Since you have already used a brass pole, I don't think you will have the troubles I had. I was starting from scratch, learning grip technique and strength from the beginning. I think that had a lot to do with my issues. Terribly sweaty hands, being the other main issue as well. 🙂

I have been doing pole for 7 months, and I still can't call myself a pole dancer. I say I do pole dance, but never refer to myself as a dancer. Being a dancer, in my mind, has a prerequisite of flowing movement and grace. Neither of those qualities do I possess. Putting together spins and poses with flowing transitions, is definitely not my forte. At this rate, I'm not sure that I will ever consider myself a pole dancer. So, I'm sorry I can't be of much help 🙂

The wushu compulsory forms are quite long. These were just bits and pieces from whole form (kata).

Crap… sorry for multiple posts… my darn phone!

Lots of wushu influence there. How does one even train for the pole switch like that? Crazy…
