I frankly don’t see a problem with your CKR and CAR, they’re really pretty! I like them better when people aren’t very close to the pole – holding yourself away means you have the muscles to do it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
If you want to get closer to the pole, you need to grip it lower on your thighs, so the pole will almost be against your kneecap. That allows you to lean down more.

I totally agree with you, it’s so nice to be here on SV. Mostly because everyone shares the obsession here and the atmosphere is really supportive. You can’t really find a real-life community where some people aren’t competitive, judgmental and hostile towards you and what you do. I really enjoy coming here and not having to be worried about what rude answer I’d get to my posts or how someone would try to bring me down.
You’re right, women can be so nasty when thrown together in the same environment. I haven’t even left uni but everyone’s already secretly rooting for the others not to succeed while being super nice to each other. Obviously there are a few exceptions but self-preservation just takes over in everyone sooner or later.
The rudeness and ignorance pole gets just stresses me out so much. It actually drains you to have to refute every silly argument and prove that what you do is just as valuable as playing rugby.
The discrimination I’ve received since I started to pole is very educating in a way. I’ve come to judge people partially on their tolerance and acceptance of what’s different (or out of their comfort zone). Sadly, many people I’m close with exhibit that ignorant behaviour we so hate, but it’s an important aspect of one’s personality and it’s good to be clear with. In turn, I’ve become a lot more tolerant with what others do too (not that I wasn’t before, born liberal here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif), but you just learn to stop and give that second thought before you make a snotty remark on something unusual or irritating. It’s really nice to see such a supportive community, that’s all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I’m about start learning the jade (finally got the splits woohoo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ) but I don’t really know where to start. Where are the main ponts of contact? And how do you get into it? Do I need to have my waist bare or can I do it in a top? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

You can also do what she does at 1:38 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRFVFOA-VRQ&feature=PlayList&p=2611E43F933A596D&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=23
Eggbeater shouldermount apparently, silly name but looks hot https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
Thanks Veena https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif I was gripping much higher… Gah so many things I’m doing wrong – the perks of being self-taught.
I’m really excited to try again now though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
Thanks for the tips everyone https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I tried it yesterday and I wasn’t even close to being brave enough to take my legs off https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I think the problem might be what you’re saying, that I need to get away from the pole more. Makes sense because the skin on my arm won’t grip the pole for me like my hands lol https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I’ll give it another try tomorrow, pray that I don’t break my skull. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif -
I inline skate a few miles about 3 times a week, and I do about an hour on the cross trainer the rest of the days. I try to stretch every day, I spend about an hour stretching into the splits and stretching my back. And if I still have some energy left I do some acrobatics – elbow stands, handstands, walkovers, flips etc.
This is just because I don’t have my own pole yet, I’d rather spend time on the pole than doing cardio tbh https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Woop woop this was my idea https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I can’t wait to see all the vids, spins are awesome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Congrats! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I’m well envious, I can’t do the elbow grip aysha for the life of me! All the more baffling because I can do the split grip aysha. Do you have any tips for learning the elbow grip version?

I watched your vid and here’s my 2 cents https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I think you’re sliding down fast because there’s not enough momentum in your spins. Make sure you walk faster into your spins so you get more of a swing. Spinning faster will keep you in the air longer. I think you’re doing everything right, you simply need to move faster and with more momentum!
You could also try some grip aids to prevent your from sliding, there are plenty of threads on those here. And if you pole regularly, your grip strength will also increase and you won’t slide so much. Keep up the good work! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Congrats! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Your core will get stronger and you’ll be able to do it without kicking soon, I’m sure. Just wondering which grip you’re using though? I started learning with the grip Veena uses (outside hand with thumb facing upwards) and I found I needed a lot less momentum to get into the SM because you can use your outside arm to pull yourself up and not just ‘inwards’ like with the cupped grip.

I am probably the odd girl out, but I teach basic laybacks before inverts and once you are strong enough to do a basic cross knee release, you are going to start seeing a big improvement in ab strength – so I tell my students to perfect their x knee up to pole sit, by the time they get it perfected, most are ready to begin inverted prep training. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pirat.gif
We teach sitting and CKR way before inverting too! If you can’t sit up from a CKR there is no way you can invert without kicking.
MommaBear you could maybe speed up the process by doing crunches, leg raises and plank holds daily. We always push those in beginner classes and it gets people inverting really quickly! -
Welcome to SV! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif I’m originally from Hungary and been to Vienna a couple times, it’s a wonderful place https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Happy poling!

Definitely no kicking!! When I learned to invert I kicked into it and no one corrected me, result = 2 cracked ribs. Be patient and use those abs https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
