Just got my Silicone XPole after taking a long break from pole dance (a few years but I teach aerial arts so i have maintained my ability to invert and do some intermediate skills) . I had a chrome before and I LOVE that the silicone is helping me get confidence again in moves I have not practiced in a long time without fear of slipping cause I used to sweat so much on the chrome. However, I do greatly miss being able to do static spins to the ground and it has been challenging finding clothing that works as others have said. So for conditioning inverts, certain leg hook and hand supported skills, and practicing spin mode spins, it’s great! Luckily I have a friend who is letting me use her older chrome xpole soon so I’ll have options but not looking forward to switching them out over and over. I think I need to discover what else I can practice on the silicone before I’ll love it more, feeling a tad limited at the moment. I’ll post a little video on my profile of a couple moves I am trying to figure out how to not get so stuck on the dismounts but also how confident the grip feels even after years of not being on a pole itself.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed it but the photos are now very pixelated and low quality when looking at them in full size. Is this something that just needs to be fixed or will they look fine again if we re-upload them and delete the old ones that transferred to the new site? Other than that I LOVE this new layout!

PS: I wipe my pole down a TON! I get very sweaty and/or dry hands so sticking to the pole can be a great challenge a lot of the time! I wash my hands with dish soap and this seems to help though.

Everyone learns at a different pace and you’ve got quite a list of accomplishments for only poling 10 months! I’ve been poling regularly (meaning more than once every two months at a friend’s party) since April of this year. However, I have been doing aerial silks and trapeze since April of 08 which did help me with the strength and flexibility a lot. Cross-training is a great way to get the most out of your muscles. Pole is quite different from Aerial though as far as how it feels on the skin and the rigidness of it (I’m used to moving ropes and soft fabric) so it took me a good three or so months just to get used to the pain of pole burn in my thighs and as I learn new spins and moves, more pole burn is inevitable but you push through it till it doesn’t make you hop right off the pole. I’m still tearing myself up on my pole weekly but as I get a move down properly, it hurts much less.
Although I do have a couple more advanced moves on my list, I still struggle with a lot of basic/intermediate stuff too cause our bodies are all so different! That side climb is not my friend yet (you do it better than I do) but genie is possible on a good stickin day! haha!
We watch so many professionals do very advanced moves in videos that it gets over-whelming and we tend to over-look the amazing things we can do! You are lifting your own body weight over your head and letting go while holding a gemini! That is a HUGE accomplishment! Keep up the awesome work, it will continue to pay off and you will look back on this and say "Damn, I really am making great progress!"

My back too is finally healing. I got a massage and although it felt a bit better after, it really felt great three days after (delayed response). I now can invert again, as well, but I also have noticed I really round my back when doing any inverts as well. Trying to work on basic strengthening and trying to go up slower with more control, concentrating on how my back is positioned. But it VERY hard not round my back. How straight are we aiming to get it? Anyone have a video or image of how an beginning/intermediate student should look when going into the chopper? How do you prepare and train for it if you are not strong enough to do it properly (straight) yet? Any ideas or hints would be much appreciated.

I am currently going through the SAME exact problem. Mid to high back, on my left side, right under my ribs between my spine and side. Hurts to breath deeply sometimes. I got mine from doing my first full shoulder mount. Now I can spin and lift some still but inverts are killing me! Every time I think it’s better, I invert to test it and it comes right back. It’s only been like this a week but I have the same fear of losing all my progress. I’m sure we will not lose it all but I feel your pain, literally. I just need to stay away from any moves that irritate it, period.
I am considering going to a massage therapist but I am so broke I can barely pay bills right now. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
Let me know how your progress comes along with the injury and I’ll keep you posted as well.
We WILL survive this and bounce back!!!!! Hang in there with me!!!!!
