I agree with you trying to hold poses longer :-). It will make you stronger. Also – I would get it solid on static first before doing it on spin. At least for me, I feel unstable when working on a trick on spin. Also, I too struggle with elbow grip – have you tried forearm or natural or twisted grip? It’s strange – I have a super strong twisted grip Ayesha but the elbow grip is so hard for me :-P.

It depends. Most of the time I just have a list of moves, fillers, and transitions and will dance it out at whatever pace to any song. I find that most students like this because they can move at their own rate. However, if I’m doing a workshop with choreography to a specific song, I will teach it using 8 counts because there are parts of the song that need to be accentuated with the movement. That way, we are all on the same page.

Juicy J – after climbing, your hands would need to be placed near the neck before inverting. When on spin, the body will need to be slightly turned to the side to maintain the spin, then bring yourself into your V..I’m sure you’ll get it soon!

I love my 40 – I have really tiny hands :-). Mine is chrome and if I’m going to do any type of thigh holds, I always make sure to really warm up the pole, and put a small amount of itac on my inner thighs. Do you seem to only have the trouble when on a 40? Do you have a solid one on a 50 or 45? If its hit or miss, I suggest strengthening the inner thighs. Take one of those cheap kid balls (the kind that are in those large bins at walmart) and slowly squeeze it with your thighs, slowly release. I did this like 20 times, 2 sets. It took me a few weeks of doibg this, but my inner thighs were finally strong enough for those moves on the pole 🙂

Just a little tip about your rounded back when stretching…I too have this problem. For example, I have a terrible time sitting straight up on a straddle and can’t seem to get a proper stretch. I put a yoga block or rolled up towel under my butt when doing these stretches. It helps keep my back straight and I am able get the proper stretch. Good luck!

I hear ya! When learning a move, I don’t pay attention to what my hands look like. Once I’ve gotten it down and can hold it for awhile, I will look in the mirror and practice different hand “looks” until I find what looks good. Then keep doing it – muscle memory for the hands and wrists 🙂

I not only workout my back with weights and pull ups, but I also do veena’s back mobility a few times a week. I really like how it makes me isolate the muscles along the spine, and I’ve gotten a lot stronger by sticking to it. I also foam roll everyday :-). I have a strange back (its like cartilage damage or something) ever since I got shingles years ago, and I noticed in the past six months of doing her lesson and foam rolling consistently, my back has been feeling much better!

I saw that too on Facebook and totally cried! This is hard for me too because I have hard time accepting compliments and can be super critical myself…but here we go!
    Things about me:
1.) Love my eyes! They have a ring of yellow fire in the middle 😉
2.) I have long legs for my short height and so I love them for that
3.) I love my hips. Even though they might seem nonexistent to some, I like the way they look on me
    Pole:
1.) I am pretty wicked strong
2.) I love the way I can dance sexy when I’m in the mood to do so
3.) I think I have pretty good musicality

  • I always do new things barefoot and once I’m confident – move to heels!

When in yoga class doing headstands, you’re the only one doing sexy/pretty legs while everyone looks like a board.
Lol! Happened today in class – I couldn’t help it!

April 8, 2013 at 8:25 am in reply to: Stretching Routine?

I started out flexy training splits 1 night a week and back 1 night a week. Did this for 2 weeks. Then each week I added a day until I have 3 days of splits training and 3 days of back stretching each week. I always do my routine after my p90x workout. That way, my muscles are fatigued and I’m super warm. I too have extremely tight hamstrings and hip flexors. My shoulders are really tight too. But I’ve had great improvements over the last 5 months since I started! I never push into a stretch bc if I do, I won’t be able to walk the next day. So I always relax, close my eyes, play soothing music, etc when I do my flexy training. I think how you go about it depends on the person. I know people that improve drastically with resistance stretching. That kind makes me super sore and sets me back. You might want to see what kind works for you! It’s weird for me – I can only handle pushing myself when working on middle splits. For some reason, my body is able to handle it for those type of stretches :-). Good luck!

I would have to say that my biggest crush is for Karol Helms.  She was the first poler I ever laid eyes on.  Just love her style!  And of course, Alethea Austin just oozes sexiness too!  And I would have to say Anastasia Skukhtorova – an enitrely different style that I admire so much!

I got my hoop and taped it purple with a black spiral :-). So pretty! Just got all of the rigging and hardware from aerial essentials. They were extremely helpful! With my problem of rigging the anchor point into my ceiling – which is actually a floor joist bc of the second story above – I went with a steel plate that gets drilled into the side of my 2×12 beam. I just have to buy the steel screws and nuts that will go through it!! I’m guessing I won’t be able to open up the ceiling and install the plate until after Easter but I am super excited!!!

Question about installing the anchor point. I have a regular ceiling (no exposed beams). I have done extensive research and can’t find a straight forward answer. It seems that I will need some sort of eye bolt through the joist. The problem I am having is that my ceiling is also on the first floor of my house – so I’m not sure that I can use a nut and washer on the top of the joist bc of the second floor. There are several different types of eye bolts. I know I have to go with welded steel. But what size? And according to my research, if something is hanging straight vertical with no motion, it’s okay to use a regular eye bolt with no nut. But a hoop can have angular motion, in which case it seems to need more support than a regular eye bolt that just screws into the joist. Any advice?
