Have you seen the Pole2Pole cup? Details are on http://www.pole2polemagazine.com – there's heats for each region. They have a professional level (instructors/performers) and an amateur level (anyone, but no inverted moves).

I have had major trouble trying to get hold of them to actually register though – repeated emails to both addresses listed on their website have yielded no replies. Hopefully you'll have better luck than me! 🙂

RE the height issue… I'm a smidge over 5'9, and I don't find the height to be a problem at all on the R-pole. I can climb, aerial invert, etc. with no trouble. Although if you're used to having 9 feet to play with (high ceilings are rare in these parts) perhaps you'll find it more limiting.

I also find it very stable. Certainly the base has never tipped on me, and I really do throw myself at my reverse grabs! The pole itself does have a fair bit of flex, which freaks some people out when they try it for the first time because you can definitely feel the pole move as you spin, but it's never been unsafe. I've been dumped on my arse by X-Poles and 'permanent' poles coming loose WAY more often.

Travel-wise, it's a bit of a mission but doable. Like Tierra said, it's made of metal tubing that forms sections sort of like two-and-a-half sides of a triangle. These sections clip together with thick plastic joints to form a circle divided into triangular segments, and then there's foam mats that fill in the gaps. There's then a safety mat that goes over the top of the whole thing, and the pole itself (which is in two halves that slot together) goes into the middle.

I assume the one I use is an R-pole Professional, so I can't speak for the basic version.

I'm in, if you'll have me? I'm naturally quite flexible already – got my right splits, left are a few inches off, back flexibility's not too shabby – but I'm terribly lazy. :S I want right oversplits and the middle split, but I just don't bother stretching often enough…unless I have someone to try and beat, because I'm secretly uber-competitive!

I have heard lots of things about melanotan, unfortunately all of them bad.

The product is not currently licensed in the USA. Here in the UK at least (not sure about the USA legal status), it is illegal to purchase or supply because it has not undergone sufficient testing and there were concerns over its safety – see http://www.mhra.gov.uk/NewsCentre/Pressreleases/CON031009.

It's worth noting that the NewAgeTan.com website itself says in its T&Cs:

The materials for sale are intended for laboratory and research use only, unless otherwise stated on product labels . They are NOT for use as food additives, drugs, cosmetic, household chemicals, or other inappropriate applications. … Buyer acknowledges that the products have not been tested by supplier for safety and efficacy in food, drug, and medical device, cosmetic, commercial or any other use. … ALL products and services offered are for RESEARCH purposes ONLY.·Under NO circumstances shall/should ANY of these materials be used for recreational purposes nor human consumption!!!

Potential unwanted effects include ulcers and infections from poor injecting technique, elevated heart rate, and possibly changes in existing moles.

Ultimately it's your decision, but please do plenty of research and take precautions (for other peoples' safety as well as your own – safe disposal of used needles, for example) if you do decide to purchase this product, as its effects are not yet well understood.

I’m the polar opposite of nymphdancer – I’m just over 5’9, so not exactly short, and I have long thin hands. But I hate using a 50mm! 38mm is better, but I think 45mm is my optimum.

We pay in advance for 6-week blocks. If anyone misses a class they don't get a refund on their payment, but most of the time they can make the class up another time for free. We don't have people turning up on the day to join in, so it doesn't matter that a spot is now vacant.

That's one of the reasons I love my studio; I never know until I'm due to leave work whether I'm actually going to have to get out on time or whether I'm going to have to work overtime, so giving 4 hours' notice of missing a class just isn't possible. This way, if I miss a class it doesn't affect the studio negatively. They've already got my money, and they haven't had to turn anyone away that could have joined in.

Seconding nymph's "It is so different for everyone" comment… personally, I stick like sin to stainless steel but slide right off powder coated and brass poles!!

It really is an individual thing. I tried an SS PS pole recently and the dry skin on my legs and palms stuck to it like glue. As in, I actually got stuck in inverted crucifix because I couldn't slide down enough to get my hands on the floor – short of taking my legs totally off the pole and falling! I even sprained my wrist doing a reverse grab spin on SS because my hand cannot turn around the pole, no matter how loose my grip. I find it much HARDER to grip a brass pole of the same diameter.

Just offering up an alternative experience to the status quo, to emphasize that just because 30 other people say they find the grip on SS to be better/worse/the same as brass, doesn't mean it'll be the same for you… I have learnt that the hard way!

Perhaps I'm being totally blind, but I couldn't see a link in that video to donate? Can you help me out? I'm so technologically inept, I can barely work my hairdryer!!

I'm not fussed about receiving a calendar – I'm English, so it would cost you a lot more to post my calendar and I don't want you to end up out of pocket. But as someone who was born with kidney problems, who has grown up used to regular urologist appointments with men sticking probes in unpleasant places and who will have to live her life with a range of unpleasant effects of those problems, you're more than welcome to my money… if I can find out how to give it to you!

I have the same issue with crushing my coccyx on the pole in Superman – if I were less of a lady, I could show you all photos of my bruises to prove it's definitely possible! 😉

I've worked out it's because I'm at too much of an angle – my feet drop down to below the level of my upper body. The result is that the pole passes diagonally between my thighs (instead of straight across them, perpendicular to my legs), and bumps into my tailbone. What helps me is making sure my arm isn't too high, and that I focus on pushing my hips down and my feet up so that I'm more horizontal instead of at 65 degrees from vertical. Also maybe try holding the pole a little further down on your thighs – if I have the pole halfway down my thighs, it's harder to grip but I get the position right and it hurts less. If I have the pole right up in my business, there's more grip but at the expense of sickening pain caused by metal pole pressing into poorly-padded bone (and possibly other, squishier bits)!

Any of that sound even slightly helpful?

I’d like to second the Clinique Even Better. I have dry, sensitive skin, prone to excema, and use anti-acne medication which dries my face out even more.
All powder/mineral foundations do is make me look ‘dusty’. Many liquids are no good either, because they set on the flaky, rough skin and make me look scaly (reptillian is so NOT a good look). Even Better is the first one I found that sits well, doesn’t make my face feel like I washed in olive oil, and actually sets rather than coming away on my fingers every time I touch my face.
As with everything though, your milage may vary!

Not even on a train this time – I was actually in my office still! Reckon that would have raised a few eyebrows, haha. One of these days I'll make a stretch session. 🙁

    I’m on a train…!
Hopefully if this is a regular thing I’ll be able to make a few in future, though. I need someone to kick my butt and make me stretch, haha.
