MemberFebruary 20, 2015 at 4:22 pm in reply to: calroies and figuring out a diet planThat iffym calculator is confusing bc everyone is different and reacts differently to workouts and the type of macros they are taking in. It also changes as your body changes. I follow some fitness pros that basically refuse to answer certain questions bc it can be totally wrong info for certain people to follow if they put it out there. I so wish I could afford an actual nutritionist/trainer but I’ve researched A LOT about my situation and think I’ve found the best thing for me. As far as macros go I should take in less than 40% carbs since I am carb sensitive (PCOS if anyone can relate Γ°ΕΈΛΒ£). But someone who is fat sensitive will have different needs and someone training say for a competition would have more extreme macros.
Myfitnesspal app has been the best tool for me. Once you really figure out what the info means for your goals it will help you make better decisions by having an idea of where you stand during the day if you need to make a quick meal decision or easy to plan ahead with it too. But you have to get in the habit of using it and be honest about every thing.
At least for me I was in a rut of bad habits and little by little I just learned what I could switch out or do better tomorrow. So I try each day for a goal like I started with “I’m going to pack my lunch tomorrow” then It grew to every meal is fresh and not fast food so I know exactly what I’m fueling my body with. It’s just a habit now and yes a lot of the times I turn down food from other people (mostly at work). I don’t feel limited though since I know I’m making good decisions – if anything I’ve gotten more creative π
The biggest change I’ve made so far though is cutting out added sugar. It’s literally in everything! Even foods that are seemingly “healthy” because it acts as a preservative for shelf life not to mention keeps you hooked (and most likely with extra lbs unless you are blessed with a great metabolism). So it was hard at first but this has made the biggest difference besides the general good habits I’m working on. Getting rid of the added sugar (that our bodies don’t need btw) made it pretty easy for me to see what’s good fuel for my body. I say added bc foods that naturally have their own sugar are ok…like fruit has fructose but if eaten whole it also has the right amount of fiber so your body reacts differently than it would if instead you just drank the juice which is basically just sugar. Once sugar was off the table I’m petty much left with whole foods most likely unpackaged or with a verrrryyy short ingredient list.
Idk if anyone cares about the no sugar deal but I’ve learned a lot by not eating it. There are a few informative books out there (although for me personally was hoping for an actual meal plan initially and it’s more point of view to understand how it affects the body) and a film that I kind of can’t wait to watch the guys body transformation from “healthy” to no sugar. A family journey book/blog is “year of no sugar”; a no nonsense author for books and his FB page is David Gillespie – he doesn’t say sugar is bad then give you recipes with sugar like a lot of others. And “that sugar film” is coming out and has a FB page. I’ve noticed mostly AUS is on the no sugar train and very slowly US might be coming around…someday….maybe lol.

Wow so much great insight! I am by no means a flex expert so love how much I can learn from all of your thoughts. AK I do the lizard stretch since it’s useful for the famous alethea floor split so I hope it’s a good one. I need to go back again to read more in depth from this full convo. And ha! I my auto correct wrote “hope” flexor Γ°ΕΈΛβ guess I do need hope in the flexy dept so it works.

Yes it is sooo hard to find something without all the additives the closest I’ve got is RAW brand I like the cocoa flavor though for most it is probably a little gritty and acquired taste

Strengthwraps!!!!! Strengthwraps.com (I also think mightygrip has a wrist wrap but I haven’t used that). Strengthwraps were made for crossfit but they have been a godsend in pole for my wrist issues. They’ve helped support during my warmups/conditioning and full pole/dance practice. My flare ups would be so bad I wouldn’t even attempt a push up or a handstand type of dismount (which was very frustrating since I knew I could DO the actual move) but these wraps helped me do those things and get BETTER to where I can now go without them through a full practice. I was worried I’d use it as a type of crutch or it was “cheating” but no way it’s just helping me get stronger and stay safe without the pain! There are also different fabric thicknesses to choose if you need more or less support. Good luck π PS I think there is also polewraps.com same idea

Try a chiropractor! I’ve had mine popped back in a couple times (after the first time I didn’t listen and wait long enough to fully heal) but it’s worth the trip and paying to get it properly “popped” hope you fel better soon!

Hi scubagirl have you tried climbing (as much as you can) then sliding down to restart without feet touching the ground? We do these as conditioning drills maybe it could work for your ceiling situation. PS good job on your work so far π

(As in the dura max cover/protector being machine washable )

Whoa! That’s commitment right there sounds tough to climb a rope I was hoping for more of a long stick with claw type of thing lol thanks for the suggestion Γ°ΕΈΛβ

(Sorry hit submit too soon) good luck with your grip I don’t have exp with TOO much grip so id say it’s mostly like Chem said you’ll need to fina a balance by practicing and maybe loosening your hands some (you must just have super strong grip I wish!) also I find chrome to be the stickiest so maybe if you ever get a new pole you could consider a different finish like stainless
-
Yes be careful with this pole! I think it was made more for posing/holds like you mentioned you’ve been practicing (unless maybe you have a newer model??). I had one before I found the wonderful world of Studioveena and learned the hard way it was not for spins….spin the wrong direction and the pole would spin itself loose and fall out from under (ouch)…. MemberOctober 13, 2014 at 1:38 am in reply to: Crash Pads & Swedish Bars/Stall BarsAlso love my yoga direct 5″. I’ve used the mighty grip one too I just prefer round and that particular one was square and not as thick. Sure either is a good option!

From my exp I would say to avoid brass if you are dry. And just keep in mind with the sleeve that it adds to the overall dimension of the pole (I think an additional 3mm?) also from what I’ve heard it is a process to get it on and off so can’t just change it back whenever you want. The sleeve and the silicone I think are mostly meant to be used with clothing so I guess that’s something to consider there. Seems like I’ve only ever seen positive things about TG!
