Seriously it makes all the difference. Wrong lighting or outfits can make the most ‘perfect’ body look off putting.
I film every practice as I find it to be a valuable tool. I try to really focus on every little move I’m making. Ie; if something looks awkward, I break down WHY it looks awkward. It could be as simple as hand positioning or needing to straighten legs more. Those small tweaks can transform an awkward looking dance into a smoothly flowing one… It’s worth it! -
You can get rub on bronzer for the white areas… Use a tanning glove to prevent streaky application… It’ll come straight off in the shower…

Awkward situation but personally I wouldn’t go talk to her about the ‘issue’ …
Regardless of her reasons for applying for the job etc, whatever they may be- They are HER reasons. Not your problem whatsoever.
The best advice I would have is be friendly, but not overly. Don’t engage in any bull. It’s HER issue Hun, not yours. She has no say over your life, keep calm and pole 🙂 -
Well…
I took everyone’s advice and spoke to him about it. I pretty much just reiterated how important my goals were and that I’m really concerned I won’t reach them.
He was really supportive and understanding …so hopefully it will start improving 🙂 -
Thanks for your responses… It seems the general consensus is communication so I’ll give it a try!
Katana no he’s not forcing anything down my throat. BUT he buys chocolates etc and DOES guilt me into it by saying ‘ I was thinking of you when I bought these- I knew you would like them’.
Or he will just have something already organized for dinner by the time I get there. It’s not junk but has carbs etc. I can’t exactly turn up my nose at what he has made now can I?
I have enormous willpower – I lost 20kg after the birth of my baby with diet and exercise. So no I don’t feel I have a lack of conviction , I just really don’t want to hurt his feelings!
However, the alcohol is something I can try and control a bit more. He is a wine collector and always has beautiful wines ‘he has to have me try’… And to be honest a new relationship and having a couple of drinks on the weekend together kind of go hand in hand.
Having said this; maybe all this stuff is a sign of incompatibility in some areas. -

I am 5ft and very short waisted. I tore my intercostal muscles (the muscles inside the ribs) about 7 months ago and I get pain any time I practice jades… It’s very frustrating because it’s such a beautiful and impressive move. My theory is I pulled them from the twist action involved in getting a flat jade. My new mission is to achieve over splits instead of relying on the twist action to provide a flat jade… So frustrating tho!! -
GOT IT BACK!!!! Yeah baby!!

As a former exotic dancer and now ' just' a pole dancer I believe that I am qualified to give the opinion that the two are COMPLETELY different. Yes it is true… there is lap dance, a pole, sexy costumes, 'stripper shoes' involved BUT the difference lies not just with the audience- it lies within the dancer themselves. When I was working as an exotic dancer, I danced for SOMEONE ELSE. I danced for money. I danced to be sexy- FOR THE MEN who were paying me. Now as 'just' a pole dancer I dance for ME. I dance because I love it…because it makes me feel sexy, confident and free. I finish a workout sometimes and truly feel like I could fly. Pole dance has reshaped my body after having a child and given me incredible strength and confidence. Working as an exotic dancer is a JOB, And obviously there is an element of nakedness involved. Pole dancing does not involve nakedness- we need the minimal clothing to stick to the pole. There is such a massive difference, I wish I could put it into words better.
I dont think there is anything wrong with the ladies (or men) on here from wanting a stage name. We are PERFORMERS. PERFORMERS HAVE STAGE NAMES. Think about it- most singers have stage names- actors etc…..Many of the pole community film themselves and create videos for here or on youtube- they are PERFORMERS….A good example is Jenna Marbles on Youtube. She is a very famous youtuber, but her real name is hardly Jenna marbles right? why? because she is an entertainer and performer!! In addition to this, some of us want to get our name out there as pole dancers or have aspirations to turn pro in the future and this will protect our privacy.

Ive used all 3- 38, 45 & 50, and I would probably have to say that overall the 45 is my favourite. I actually learnt on a 50 and it felt like a tree trunk. Annnnnyway… I found the 38 to be AMAZING for handgrip..like absolutely awesome. I have fairly small hands (but not teeny) and I just felt so secure. I could hold a handspring for ages because the grip was just so great! loved it. The downside was the 38 is absolutely terrible for thigh grip. I could do a CAR…but not well and definately not on spin mode. If your a spinner like me….its very dissapointing. Having said that, it provided excellent knee pit grip for a gemini and the knee hold…but little area of pole to actually place your shin for the knee hold! The 45 is good for grip on the hands…I like it also because it is a bit harder than a 38 in terms of grip…which will strengthen your grip. Hard to explain, but training on a 45 you can easily adapt to all different poles and will actually make you a bit stronger. MUCH better for thigh grips and you can spin to your hearts content https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Oh so glad this thread got bumped and I got to see it! I’ve had the exact same problem for the last 3 mths…apparently I have strained my intercostal muscles according to my chiro. It happened when I was doing a jade…think the twisting motion became too much for it. I had been poling a lot around that time so all I can guess is it was overuse… All my inverts are done with proper technique (at least I’m pretty sure lol). Anyways I’m still having trouble with it and hav to make sure I have plenty of down time between pole sessions. It’s so frustrating! I also make sure I am fully warmed up before inverting now…which I used to be a bit more gun ho about !

Love the ‘inner sex elephant’ comment, haha that made me laugh so hard!
I agree with all above ^^…I practice more flow and dancing than tricks. Someone paraphrased alethea Austin on here once and said that she believes that if you can’t do it on the floor, you can’t do it in the air. And that floorwork and transitions are the meat and bones of the dance while tricks were just the skin (something like that anyway lol). Since I heard that its been my mantra! I’ve found the more I practice floorwork and transitions, the better and more elegant my tricks look!
Definately definately record yourself, adapt different movements to suit your body shape.
One thing I really struggled with for a long time was rushing all my movements to get to the tricks part, which made my videos look hurried and jerky . Someone above ^^^wrote commit to your movement until the end, I can’t stress this enough!!! Lol – sooo right!!
My suggestion is to make a couple of videos to a song with a nice slow tempo and focus on dancing for the entire song with only transitions and floor work- no tricks. Helped me immensely! Good luck- cant wait to see your progress!
