I’m 4’7†so I know the struggle well!! I found that keeping my phone as far away as possible is better! I like Veena’s idea of recording your reflection in a mirror. That’ll give you more space to work with. Also I second the recommendation to film from a slightly lower angle because it’ll make you a bit taller looking. Also, lighting is everything! Play with lots of lights from different angles to find out which are the most flattering for you in the video.

I second the spinning pole idea! Also 39 days to Iron X would be amazing since that’s my favorite move I hope to be able to do one day!

Welcome back! You’ll be back at it in no time!

I follow dozens of people but @tropicalvertical was the one who told me about Veena. I’m @treesyspins if you want to see who else I follow.

Eile, that’s awesome! Are you both on Instagram so we can stay in touch?

Welcome to the coolest sport ever! I agree with Veena that tracking your progress. I also recommend getting a separate Instagram account just for poling and start following others. I get so much of my inspiration and energy from the amazing people online. Also, as you get more confident, I’d recommend taking a few real life classes if there are any in your area. You’ll improve by leaps and bounds just going a few times because you’ll have someone there to critique you. You’ll also meet other people who are just as passionate about poling. Enjoy! And remember to rest every other day in the beginning. It’s real easy to get carried away and get hurt. Follow Veena’s instructions!

Hello again, I was thinking more on your situation beciause as I said, I’m in a similar place. Heres’s what I did. Maybe this will help you too. I created a separate Instagram account just for poling and I let my friends on facebook and my other Instagram account know about it so those who are interested can choose to follow me but those who aren’t, can still stay in touch with me without being overwhelmed by my new passion. I was surprised to see who actually showed interest in seeing my poling progress.
As for your real life friends, if they are truly distancing themselves from you, you may want to try finding new friends. You want to surround yourself by people who support you and want to see you happy, ESPECIALLY if you’ve taken on a healthier lifestyle (exercising instead of drinking/partying). In the meantime, start chatting with the polers on instagram. They’re super supportive and wonderful. If you let me know your IG name, I’ll gladly follow and support your obsession.Good Luck.

Same here. I fell in love with poling and then fell in love with Aerial. There is an aerial studio near me so I interact with others who love it during class but there are no poling studios near me so I’m very alone. It’s fun and I love it but I found myself trying to convert my friends so I’d have someone to do it with and talk to about it. I learned quickly though that people will get tired of it because they don’t love it the way I do. so now, I only post on Instagram and I only open my account to other Polers. So right now, I only share my passion with a handful of strangers. :-/

Suzanna and Danielle, thank you both for your posts and for being able to relate! Suzanna, I suppose you’re right that regardless of your shape or size, there are benefits and yet we all need to find what makes us comfortable.
Danielle thank you for your comments as well and I LOVE your idea of a post challenge. Just simple stuff to get ourselves posting!! I began following other women who are also new to poling and it’s very inspiring to everyone in various stages of learning. It’s made me realize that this is such a great community of people, they’re all doing their best, and I’m exited to be a part of it.
I locked my IG account and only share it with other polers and that makes me much more comfortable now. I would like to follow you both and any other lovely ladies interested in inspiring/encouraging each other. My name is TreesySpins. I’ll look for you! -
Welcome to the community!

Veena, thank you for your input. You’re right that the only people who will really judge are people who are unhappy with themselves. I’ll try to remember that.
-
StrangeFox, thank you for your suggestions and especially for pointing out the benefits of being small when it comes to poling. I hadn’t considered that! Also, I love your creative posts and I’m so glad you share on IG! You look awesome and are super creative!
-
Kiki yes thank you for the support! I would like to follow you too. What is your IG name?
-
@allisonerin thank you for your kindness and realistic suggestions! I’ll start with leggings and skirts and I really like your idea of only sharing with people I DONT know first. That actually makes me feel better. I’ll lock my account to start. I’m not sure if that dryers people from requesting to follow but at least I’ll have you! Thanks a lot!
