FINALLY got that dang elbow grip Ayesha. I’m also sooooo unbelievably proud of several students who mastered their own nemesis moves. I think THOSE ladies are my biggest/best accomplishments. Proud mama!!

TOTAL wipeout attempting a True Grip Ayasha. No spotter no mat. Egad!  Bottom elbow buckled and I went crashing down head first. I at least had the wherewithalll to tuck and my shoulder hit first and took the brunt of it before my little pinhead came landing next. Shoulder hurt like an SOB for about a week.  I haven't gotten back on that hourse yet either.  At this point I'm happy with my Elbow Grip Ayasha.  The tumble happened about 2 months ago, and while there are some moves I feel I just HAVE to get this TGAyasha isn't on the list anymore.

David C Owen has discussed this and has some good guidelines.  PM him if you can, otherwise I'll see him Sun 08/28 and let him know to get in touch with you.  Funny you brought this up, since it's a peeve for him to see competitors (even showcasers) over-train just prior. Hugs to you champ!  😉

I have been using Poledanzer for MANY years now and have been so pleased.  Robert will gladly make 14 foot perm poles for you.  Their spinning mechanism is far superior than Platinum Stages. Fawnia has them in her studio and Mary Ellyn has them in hers as well.  Fawnia used to have the PS but due to issues with the poles, as well as customer service, she put the Poledanzer in her new studio.

As long as they are under 3oz it’s okay to bring through on your carry-on. Including liquids.

PoleNation.com may help. If you type in the zip code of the area it will list anything nearby.

Scimitar-the original design has separated toes, HOWEVER, they are designed so you can easily snip between the toe holes for those of you who may have “non-traditional feet”. Hope that helps!! 🙂

I tried calling a taxi while in Denver. While they were almost courteous on the initial phone call they could not/would not give me an estimated time of arrival for my pick up. They told me I would have “the first available” cab sent to me. It seemed silly! I waited almost 30 minutes before I called them back & said “never mind!”

One of the many benefits of working with Fawnia at her studio in Las Vegas is being able to meet the plethora of pole royalty that come here to vacation, practice and play.  It's taught me to be a gracious hostess, and not a blubbering idiot that I would otherwise tend to be.  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif  The one I kick myself inthe butt for missing was Oona, when she was here. UGH!!

Just throwing my two cents in: If you are looking for a PERMANENT mounted pole please consider PoleDanzer.  Small company out of California who will make a fabulous spin/static perm pole for studio use.  Down size is that it only comes in a 50mm.  I have had one in my home studio for over 3 years and Fawnia had 17 of them installed in her Las Vegas studio.  I don't care for their removables, but I won't use another perm pole.

I have my Personal Trainer cert through AFAA.  There are several pole classes that I can use for my Continuing Education units I need to keep my certification current, and it was offered in my city so it was convenient. In the cert class, they told us their AFAA cert was a good starting point for the ACSM (which the instructor agreed it's the Gold Standard!) so eventually I'll be headed in that direction.  Baby steps! Good luck in your research. I hope you'll keep us posted!

Catch a good strong rotation in your ascent.  A lot of spinners at first feel like they are "going too fast" but with time and control, that feeling will abate, because you know you need that rotation to last throughout your aerial combo. And what feels like "OMG!" while your close to the pole USUALLY doesn't look out of control to your audience.  Plan your combinations to be away, then close to the pole so you can help maintain that spin.  I'm sure you've found that the tighter you are to the pole the quicker your rotation is.  I prefer to use a Showgirl Climb on spin since it keeps my core closer to the pole while I climb, thus enabling me to maintain a quicker rotation during that ascent.

I teach Spin at Fawnia's studio here in Vegas, and always tell my beginning spinners that the rotating pole is kinda like riding the bull at the rodeo: If you stay of for those 8 seconds you're doing pretty good. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Just a joke, but I also want to make sure my spinners THINK before they just go flinging themselves around. Spinning takes more shoulders, back and core engagement.  The spinner is much less forgiving of improper hand & body placement.  If you want to PM me I'm happy to answer any specific questions, because I'm not familiar with any specific spin instruction vids out there…
