first of all, ladies, thank you for helping! what i meant is, that i can not turn the part where the screws are so that the holes come to lie above the flat section, not the grilled section as it is now. i guess i have to find a smith or someone really strong to move these two parts (or one, that is) so that the holes/screws are in the right place again. thank you!

i guess you meant that the screws should be directly above the flat section, but i can't move them apart!

i am not sure what you mean – thanks for the fast answer, anyway 🙂
i took a photo of it (without the screws) http://flic.kr/p/bUvSZS

Although, of course, I haven't been there, and I did not hear the way she said it. "A bit on the thicker side" does not sound like a bad of harmful comment to me at all. She did not say "your legs are too fat for it", did she! Now THAT would've been unconstructive.
If someone has bow-legs, and finds a trick difficult to do, what is wrong in poiting out that this might be a reason why she can not do it – YET? She may have to find a way to do it that it different from those with straight legs. She may not have thought about her legs being why she can't do that move yet. That's the same for thicker legs, as well as for skinny legs.
Honestly, I've done this move, and I also am "a bit on the thicker side". I know that bigger thighs are exactly why that move is painful for me, and why I can not do it sometimes. So what?! That makes my victory over this move even better, everytime I get it.

MemberMarch 6, 2012 at 1:30 pm in reply to: What do you ladies think of this new x-stage/star stand alone comparison that just came out?veena, not that it would help anything, but i liked your video. if felt you were taking a neutral position, and helped me understand the pros and cons of both very well. i think you were very objective, and did NOT try to promote either one.
i haven't yet had the chance to dance on a ssa, but i have tried the x-stage light and 2 types of r-pole, which is made in the uk i think. i would always choose an x-pole stage over the other, because it just feels more secure (the r-pole nearly tipped over when i was doing a simple but fast back hook spin, and imagine the cries of my friends when i did a reverse grab on it …it did not tip over, but it was pretty close. not so with the x-pole). and i haven't been paid by any of them either.
keep your head up, veena – you're great!

i loved the brass one so much, because i had such a fantastic grip on it, better than on chrome (don't talk of tg, that one sucks for me, and stainless is not my favourite either ^^). i'd hate it if i could not use it because i was allergic to its coating. BUT if it actually has something to do with grip-stuff, then i'll probably be able to do something about it. can't try a brass one anywhere else than at the studio, though.

MemberJanuary 9, 2012 at 8:11 am in reply to: The Metal on/in your Pole ***ALLERGY and other info***hi guys,
i recently react allergic to x-poles. the first time i reacted allergic was when i trained on a very used tg pole, and i thought it might be just because it is so worn off. but yesterday i trained on a pretty new brass pole, and had the same reactions. i loved it, because i had a wonderful good grip on it, but then i saw my thighs and elbow turning red and in some places, my skin had like very flat bumps … it was all red and hot and a little bit itchy.
then i turned to floor work, and afterwards i noticed even more little bumps, glowing white from the red parts,on the back of my shoulder. that wasn't a point of contact with the pole, but with the floor (i did a lot of shoulderrolls/-stands) … so i thought, maybe it was the stuff they used for cleaning at the studio. but the owner told me, the poles were only cleaned with vodka, not with the stuff used for the floors. and i guess it's almost impossible that my shoulder reacted to grip-powder or stuff that's used on the pole … because, how should that be on the floor!
i will have an allergy-test done soon, but still … i'm worried. i've never reacted to nickle, and i have a lot of cheap earrings. why would i react to a new brass pole the same way as i did to a worn-off tg or chrome-pole? any ideas? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif i mean, i will most probably have to tell the guys at the allergy-centre what they ought to be looking for…

(I have to widen the upper part a bit, though, before putting them on. Easy!) A friend of mine, who has the same shoe size, has a pair of Ellies, and she prefers them to Pleasers, as she has narrow toes. I could not get my feet in them! So for me it's Pleasers.

Probably I was eating some at that time ^^ It is something you don't get often, so it's special. Just like me! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif

yay, thank you ladies! okay, so the "serpentine" dvd is on my wishlist for sure. but does anyone around here happen to know east coast tribal by sera solace? she's at world dance NY too.
unfortunately i won't be able to do workshops with any of those big superstars, as i am in austria, and it's most unlikely that they come here to teach me, an (more or less) absolute beginner 😉 but thank you for the recommendations. i will have a look at all of them.
i also searched the internet for teachers in my surroundings, and will probably take some kind of introductory private lessen soon. i guess it would be good to have some kind of one-on-one-training every once in a while, even if i will try to learn mostly with dvds.
thank you again – and please, if someone else has something to say to this topic, don't hesitate to let me or us all know! 🙂

welcome! 🙂

I would not use sandpaper,as it does damage to the pole. i like to use itac2 on a new pole, if it is too slippery. and wipe it off with a towel (and perhaps some vodka) every now and then. i personally do not want to use acetone or window cleaner on my pole, because my skin is quite sensitive and i don't want to get allergies from it.
