My workouts aren’t really structured so sometimes I spend a lot of time trying to think of what to practice. I’ve tried to change that lately by incorporating some of Veena’s conditioning workouts so at least I know that part gets done. I like the idea of a goals sheet and having a more structured workout plan. This thread has some great tips. Thanks!

Oakmama you got rid of the ash by using the concoction right before you pole or do you use it everyday after showering? Getting rid of the ash would be HUGE for me…lol. As for the knee pit grip, it’s hard, but I do have one tip: SQUEEZE THE BOOTY LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! It makes you push your hips forward and it helps a lot. I have a bit of trouble remembering so I sometimes ask my teacher to say it loud while I’m trying to do any type of knee grip. Try it 😉

I tried Pole Physics and it didn’t do anything for me. I’m not surprised that both and vegetable glycerin seem to work for a lot of people. is basically glycerin and water so maybe you can try making your own and adjusting the water content. Oakmama maybe you can use the (or make our own) before poling to help you stick to the pole and then use some of the other things discussed for overall moisture. That’s what I plan to do.

Oakmama I have the same problem. I use corn husker’s lotion before I pole, but it doesn’t prevent the ashy look. Between corn huskers and dry hands, I leave class with an all over ashy look (not a good look for a black woman)! I’m going to try some of these remedies. Thanks ladies!

I agree with dustbunny, .the up and over stretch is really awesome. I do it regularly. Veena so glad you’re coming up with more shoulder exercises. maybe you’ll do a 20 minute conditioning video just for shoulders…hint..hint. i like the stretching routines because they make me work on a particular body part for at least 20 minutes.

I think you just convinced me that my next focus should be shoulders (I hope to never lose focus on my core again). I love the hangman air walk.

@Cazzz, hang in there. It will happen. I don’t know how Veena knew exactly what too add to her ab program, but it works! It gets tough near the end, but just keep doing it. I remember doing a lot of grunting and screaming the last few days of the program. But it was so sweet when I first did it. I wish someone had recorded the surprised look on my face. Oh yeah, and the one thing I wish someone had taught me when I first started is to SQUEEZE EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY YOUR BUTT! It makes the world of difference when inverting, shoulder mounting, etc. Keep pushing’

@Juicy Dior and @Cazzz you guys are soooo right. I too made the mistake of focusing on too many aspects of pole (strength, flexibility, abs, etc) and found myself overwhelmed. So, I used Veena’s 30 day ab challenge to focus on abs and…drum roll please….I can now dead lift into my shoulder mount~! My goal now is to keep the abs going and add another aspect of pole to my regimen. It’s all so alluring, but focusing on one key aspect at a time is the key.

Still here. Started ab challenge again on Oct 1st. Halt to say I’m still deadlifting into my shoulder mounts and my inverts so all is well. Is there another challenge going at the same time? Some of you ladies are talking about moves I dint think I’ve heard before (or I knew them by another name). Let me know!

  • I’ve had money refunded on a cancelled credit card before after the Target debacle (my bank cancelled my card). So you should be okay there. If it turns out that the vendor is sketchy and/or isn’t handling the situation properly then you might want to contact Fawnia. She’s awesome about listening to feedback and would probably want to know so she can decide whether to invite them back next year. Good luck!

An invert usually gets a lot of oohs and aahs.

I agree with everyone else. She’s trying to force her personal ideas about life on you. Your pole journey is your pole journey and it’s different than everyone else’s. Her inability to see that doesn’t make her a good teacher in my opinion. And, it sounds like her program is successful because everyone else is afraid to speak up. If everyone stands up then maybe she won’t be so successful and will be forced to make changes. As for staying silent and letting her dictate what your pole journey should look like, you have to decide if your discomfort is worth it. Maybe try other options. It sounds weird, but I’ve actually had successful pole lessons via skype so it can be done. There are tons of Veeners that would skype with you (including myself). Whatever you decide, us Veeners are here for you!

Back from Pole Expo and have decided this should be part of my daily routine. So, I’m back to it. I decided to start at day 10 because today is the 10th so it’ll be easy to track where I am in the process.
