I tried an instructor a few years ago which helped with some things I never noticed myself. Videoing myself would have helped with that. But she had one way of doing things for everyone that did not always work for me. What I like most about doing it at home with Veena’s lessons is safety. There are instructors (see recent discussion) and many Youtube videos that could get you hurt. Nothing more important than safety IMO. Everything is broken down to small details (better than the DVD’s I own) in each lesson and I rewind numerous times. With an instructor I would have to have them keep repeating themselves. And I ignore most names of moves. Its the move itself that is important and not the name.
I also take a somewhat backwards approach to keep motivated. I see people post videos and see a move that I want to do. After yelling “OOH, OOH, OOH, How do I do that!” I then refer to the lessons on here immediately for that particular move. Would not like having to wait until the next scheduled class or appointment. Where the move is in the list or category (Beg., Int. or advanced.) gives me an idea of difficulty for myself.
But its really the community of people here that keep me motivated and all things in perspective. If you have a problem or question about a lesson just ask. You have not only Veena herself but also many, many excellent people who have been through the same problem. Unlike many (even non-pole) discussion/message forums on other websites, I never have seen a post where someone was anything but supportive when a person was asking a question.

  • Personally I think you answered your own question, Freestyle. Also most professional dancers will tell the moves, costumes, etc. are not as important as always making eye contact.

I cannot answer about the attachments but the reason popcorn ceilings are so popular is they are easy to repair. Go to any hardware store, home depot, etc. And it comes in a spray can. Make sure to shake the can several minutes.

Just because someone has the title of Instructor or a certification does not mean they know what they are doing or are always correct. Have seen many certified fitness instructors who are teaching things wrong or not helping the people reach their own goal. I also like Chem’s suggestion but if nothing changes you might have to decide between the advantages of the instructor and potential injuries with other moves.

Jessies. Definitely not crazy. Just sounds like you have not found or gotten to your joy in life. You have achieved quite a bit personally & professionally that was earned through your own efforts. Everyone has something different that makes them happy. Don’t ignore the small pleasures like bubble baths or time poling! Give some real thought what will do it for *YOU* Then some more planning on how to achieve those goals. Do not be afraid to ask for help! There may be some that discourage you, but align yourself with those that encourage. I was a little younger than you when a drunk driver took away my joy in life, but eventually I changed my goals and with the help of real friends found other things to bring me joy.

The road in life will have its ups & downs, speed bumps & potholes but if you plan your trip properly, you will reach your destination.

You do not have to go to the store for bubble bath. You can use either liquid hand soap or some shampoos.

I took a class at the Mayo Clinic for Fibromyalgia recently and they stressed the importance of not being stressed 🙂 Gave a relaxation CD which is almost to me like hypnosis. There are many better ones on youtube you can find and they do work. Just search for “Relaxation Video” They also recommend yoga which am considering especially as my gym has yoga classes.
Love baths also. Incense or scented candles, soft music or jazz and aaaahhhhhhh!!! Maybe I should get a hot tub…

@Mila I have done kayaking for years. Love it! Boone, NC is 2 hours from here and one of my favorite kayak spots. Plenty in GA too. It is excellent for getting out and away from things. Not always relaxing though. Can build upper body strength. Before you purchase a kayak be sure to rent a couple of different ones. I own two for different classes. Checkout http://www.paddling.net/ for info.

If you do not have access to actual poles to try out, you could go to Pole Depot, I mean Home Depot. In the plumbing department is 2″ outside diameter pipe which is close to 50mm.
Just no inverts in the aisles please.

I am already a backer with one of the packages but maybe it would help if you included some cole slaw 😛
Seriously, I expected better support from the pole community. So much was given to someone making potato salad they would not even taste. I find your artwork a great way to expose the world of pole dancing to the uninformed even if it can be with a smile and do enjoy it myself.

As Chem already pointed out, taste is probably the most important thing. Some are actually intentionally made disgusting so people think for some reason it is a better quality.

Most of the whey protein “labels” (manufacturers) actually do not make the protein. They purchase the whey protein, isolate or related products from a dairy company like Davisco or Hilmar Cheese Co. Hilmar will sell to anyone in quantity that wants their own brand of processed whey as well as protein bars or other supplements. Then there are processing companies that will add the fillers, BCAA’s & package it for you which is what most of the brands especially the smaller ones do.
You should check the serving size for amount of protein. Size by grams and not a scoop which are different for each brand. Some have a lot of fillers with a big scoop for little protein so you buy more product. And you can also get BCAA’s from a separate supplement if needed.

I have practically lived for the past year off of whey protein shakes, bottles of boost & ensure and (curds & whey) cottage cheese because of being on a very restricted diet. I use Body Fortress whey protein available from Chinamart or Amazon and its very cheap. Because of my health I had to ask my GI doctors at the Mayo Clinic and they said it was complete and as good quality as the more expensive brands. They often have referred me to major namebrand products like my magnesium/potassium so was a bit surprised.

A lot of the so called “Miracle weight loss supplements” like Visalus are just protein powder with some vitamins.

There are some safety concerns with protein supplements (even plain water) so if you want to know them:

In case any wanted to know:
I received the part this week for my Lil Mynx (same as Studio Veena pole except 50mm) pole. I did call to ask about installing the part and Randy answered the phone immediately. Although I felt a little stupid asking when it was common sense, He was very respectful.

Hmmm. Answers the phone right away. can get support/answers immediately. Send out parts right away. Obviously fully backs their products. Why can’t I get the same with my TV manufacturer?

They contact everyone. Have not heard too much success with them or even similar companies like Main Street Mail especially as the service is a little antiquated today.

You can use this website to convert a specific time to GMT or UTC.
    http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

Cayman Islands should be -5 hours from GMT. Eastern US is -4, Western US (Cali) is -7. Arizona & parts of Indiana get real complicated 🙂

Not competent to answer your questions but why do you say you don’t expect to win? There are some videos even on here with “apologies” about themselves yet are truly fantastic. There is one person here who this week posted a Freestyle video on Youtube but it reminded me (although very different) of performances at this year’s Florida Championship and was on par with the top winners in one of the divisions. Granted I am not a judge but think there are many winners who just have yet to compete. Not sure why they have to be convinced but I give you credit for putting yourself out there.
