https://www.facebook.com/newjerseypoledancing
This is the Facebook page for it. It's all the information I've seen for it.
I have never performed publicly, but I do want to start. I think it could be fun and it would give me a goal to work towards. I haven't submitted a video yet. From what I understand the video doesn't have to be of your routine, they just want to see spins, climbs, and inverts.
I might submit something. Running out of time though!

A few weeks back, I had a friend over and I was going to teach her some basic spins. Just after I was done telling her how safe the x-pole is, I did a spin and the whole pole fell over. I landed almost on top of her. Thank GOD I missed the flat screen!!! Turns out, I had forgotten how to tighten the pole after putting it up (it had been down for a few weeks). Basically, my spin unscrewed it and it lost tension. There's a mistake I'll only make once!!

I agree with PaulettePoles… The great thing about pole dancing is that it's open to interpretation! Oona comes from a background in gymnastics, so it makes sense that her style is more gymnastic than "sexy" (although that's not to say she isn't sexy!). We all have different styles and movements and it really comes down to how the individual connects with the pole. It winds up being very personal and very beautiful…
I don't think there's any "right" or "wrong" way to pole and that's what's so empowering, beautiful, and unifying about it…

I agree, it is quite a performance. I think this is what an Olympic Pole Dance performance would probably look like.
Oona is incredibly talented, there's no argument there. Personally, I favor a more sensual style, a la Karol and Alethea. But Oona definitely has a lot of incredible moves and I'd be very happy to take a workshop with her at some point!

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I took my pole down yesterday and wiped everything off with rubbing alcohol. I miss it already!

This is very similar to various crow pose variations in yoga and I'm pretty sure I've done this in yoga class. If you have taken yoga classes before, your hands and arms should be in the same position as they are for chaturanga. Start in a push-up position, with hands pretty much under your shoulders. Then come down so your body is parallel to the ground and your hands are directly under your elbows. Make sure your elbows are close to your body. That's chaturanga.
To get into the split variation, start in a low lunge. Make sure your ankle is under your knee and that your knee does not go past your ankle. Bring both palms to the ground inside your leg. Crouch down, and shimmy your shoulder under your knee. Even though you're close to the ground, try to keep your heart lifted and your neck straight. Make sure your hands are under your elbows. When you feel like your leg is secure on your tricep area, begin to extend. When that leg is extended, begin to tip your heart towards the ground, keeping your gaze forward. You need to use your core (and back muscles) to bring that back leg up. It might help to rest or lean your torso on the opposite arm/elbow of the leg that's forward in the split. Think of your arms as a shelf. Hands shouldn't be much further than shoulder-width apart.
Hope this helps!

Hello, I was going to start a new post on the forum, but I found this one and it seems to be what I’m experiencing now.
I get back pain right below my shoulder blades on my ribs after inverting. It is mostly on the side I do most of my inverting on.
Aside from lifting weights, what else can I do about this? It hurts and when I get down from the pole it feels like I was hit there or something…
Do you promise it goes away?

Here are my two cents…
My boyfriend isn't over-enthused about watching me pole either. If I tell him I learned something new, he says "cool, honey" and doesn't ask to see it. I'll set up the pole in the living room and practice, but he'll be watching tv behind me. I'm not saying he's annoyed or disinterested, but he's just not chomping at the bit to see it. Personally, I'm to shy to do a dance for him, but I'll practice my spins and tricks in front of him and he'll say things like "please don't hurt yourself" and "you HAVE gotten better!" My boyfriend is a very sexual being. He knows what he likes and what works for him and he tells me. We communicate about it and we know each other well enough to know how to turn the other one on. I might throw some lingerie on and do a few little spins on the pole, but it's more about the lingerie than the pole for him, you know what I mean?
The point I'm getting at with this story is (similar to what Rune said) is that some things work for some people and don't work for others. Communication about what does work is important.
I am sad to hear that he doesn't give you the attention you want. But here's my opinion: You don't need him to validate your existence. You have everything you need to be confident and secure in yourself. You really, really do. My advice is to hang out with yourself for a while and get to know yourself better. Be honest with yourself. I'm not talking about the kind of "honesty" that makes you think negative things about yourself. I'm saying be honest with yourself in identifying what your needs are and how they can be met. Ask yourself why you want the things you want and how having these things will make you happy. You might find that your needs are different than what you thought, or you might find that you were right in the first place but you will have a deeper understanding of why you have these needs.
DedeJoy made a great recommendation about how to talk with him. Express what you're feeling, but don't make demands. But please remember- you are amazing and you have everything you need to be happy already in you waiting to be realized.
And keep posting on StudioVeena. There is such a great community here and we will always be happy for you when you learn new tricks and we all want to see you progress
Okay, so there's my contribution…

Hi Girls! I'm another member of the Big Boob Club! I was just remeasured over the holidays (my mother's idea of a Christmas present) and found out I am a 32DDD. I had been wearing 36D, but honestly, the 32DDD fit so much better. Thing is, they cost about $75US, so I'm sticking to my $12US 36Ds from Target for the most part.
When I exercise, I wear one of my cheap cotton underwire bras and a tight sports bra. The underwire bra helps keep them separated for the most part so I can avoid "uni-boob". Plus there's a lot of support so they don't go flying around. I still have to adjust a couple times in yoga and pole class, but I'm so used to adjusting my bras all day anyway that it doesn't bother me.
It's so nice to hear fellow large breasted women vent. I have complained all my life and only hear back things like "I would LOVE to have big breasts" and "You're crazy for wanting smaller boobs!". My favorite one was "Wow! Your breasts are HUGE!" as if I didn't already know. Yeah, buddy, I've never looked down and have always wondered what these two heavy flesh bags were. Thanks for pointing it out to me. Ugh.
My breasts used to be bigger. I had a reduction in high school and another in my early twenties. Even still, they have gotten a bit smaller since I've upped my exercise and lost a few pounds. But my wardrobe is still decided mainly by my chest.
I recommend checking out Victoria's Secret for swimwear and bra-tops (that have the shelf bra built in). They run sales often and their return policy is easy. And Athleta has some very nice suits (that are a bit pricey, but so worth it) for large-chested ladies. Some of them are reversable too so it's like a two for one.

I'm no photography expert (I can barely work my camera and upload photos), but wouldn't it be possible for the photographer to edit the color of the pole in photos?
I just asked my friend who is an editor for a magazine and photoshops all the time. She said changing the color of something in a photo is relatively easy, but it depends on the photo and how well-defined the thing is.
So, I guess if a client wants to change the pole color in some photos, it's not entirely impossible…

The studio I go to shares. There are only 3 poles, but almost always under 10 girls (sometimes as few as 2). It's a 2 hour class. We have a long warm up, then work on tricks/spins, then we each have two songs to dance to. If there's time after, we can work on whatever we want. I personally like it, but I completely understand the desire to have a pole to your own. Maybe I'm okay with this because I have a pole at home that I can practice on whenever I want. I do recall having that feeling though before I got the pole, so that's most likely why I'm okay with sharing. Sometimes I even like having a little break (I tend to get motion sickness with spins, which is just awesome).
The studio I went to before my current one had few poles too. Usually just 2 for the three students and instructor. And the instructor would grumble if she had to set up a third if more girls came to class. I thought it kinda sucked that she was almost whining over doing her job, but whatever. I don't go there anymore.

3ver, Congratulations on two days! That's great https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
I'm no nutrition expert, but I would look into a meal plan with a balance of lots of fresh organic veggies and fruits, whole grains, nuts, lean meats or, if you're vegetarian or vegan, tofu, seitan, and tempeh. And drink a LOT of water.
Also, you might want to try hot yoga. It really helps release toxins that have been building up.
Way to go for making these changes. It's not easy!

How funny, I am at the end of a Master Cleanse myself! I only do 3 days and I do it maybe twice or thrice a year. It's usually after I've been eating unhealthy foods for a while and I want to jump-start my body back into healthy food choices. I only go for 3 days because I've heard it's the minimum for detox benefits.
Chemmie is right- cleanses won't make you lose a lot of weight and eating a healthy diet (mostly veggies, fruits and whole grains) is the best thing to do. When I cleanse for 3 days, I lose about 6 lbs, but I gain back 4-5 in the days following completion, which I'm totally okay with. But I find that my stomach has shrunk so I feel full faster. Plus, it helps me identify my unhealthy food patterns (like how often I want to snack) and keeps me from wanting to eat unhealthy things after. It's so strange to chew food when you haven't had solids for 3 days. It really helps me be mindful of what I put in my mouth.
Cleanses, fasts especially, can be dangerous. In the past, I've started the MC and stopped after a day because something just felt off. Plus, it's always smart to consult with a doctor and/or nutritionist.
If you've tried the MC and don't like it, I would suggest just a plain ol' juice or raw food cleanse. I don't have any to recommend though…
Just listen to your body
