Hi there,
I am totally not a gym person. You do not have to be a gym member to gain flexibility or strength. Actually, I was a member at a gym for a few months and it did not do a thing for me…. except for wasting my money. 🙂
In that being said… you have found a great site. Veena lessons are great and the members are wonderful as well. I am learning more from Veena doing the lessons. I was a member at a pole studio and class went so fast that I did not get the hang of some things because I needed to move a little slower than the other advanced people in the class. With Veena, you can watch the lessons as many times as you need to and she also does it in slow motion; therefore, you can see exactly what you should do and the points of contact with your body and the pole. I guess I am biased because I love the site so much.
You will see what I am talking about. If you need help, you will always receive a reply from some of the girls on here and usually Veena as well. Don't worry…. you will gain strength and flexibility. I am still working on mine too. It takes more time for some of us but you will be okay.
Hope I gave some encouragement. 🙂

MemberOctober 9, 2013 at 11:24 pm in reply to: Read this post on Psychology Today about Pole DancingHi Guys,
All I can say is wow. This person doesn't have a clue as to how pole dancing has helped some of us psychologically. Everyone has a right to their opinion; however, I think it would be wise to speak to some people to get a better understanding of why some people prefer poling rather than the so called standard of exercising at a gym.
Some people prefer walking the treadmill and some of us prefer working the pole!!! 🙂 In my opinion, the pole is better than the gym because of the challenges in which one must conquer. If she read this, then she probably would not understand what the hell I am talking about. LOL
Anyhow, we as polers do not demean others because of their preference of the type of exercise they choose to participate in. I think some people just do not understand the art and its too bad for that person. If he/she took the time to try it, then an understanding as well as credit would be shown to people who participate in poling. Moreover, with their ignorance of the art, it does not surprise me that those statements would be made. Some people are judgmental individuals and that is a part of our world which we as polers just have to continue to do what pleases us.
As the saying goes… Don't knock it until you try it!!! (She might like it) Well, enough rambling from me. Poling really helps me in many ways… especially when I am battling with my depression. 🙂

Hi there. I think that you are doing an amazing job. I can testify to being afraid to fall down which is hindering me from being able to move at a faster rate. Everyone has to get over their fear at their own time. I believe when I subscribed to Veena, the fear of falling was one of the first discussions in which I had posted. It's scary to invert. Well for me it is but it comes from me not trusting myself like I should and trying to conquer the fear of heights. I can say that at 4 months into poling, I was still doing the basics. I still consider myself a beginner and it has been a while since I started. In addition, it's hard to conquer doing inverts when time is limited which is my problem as well. I can say that when I attended the pole studio, I ended up being the only beginner when challenged by being in a sexy pole class with advanced polers. I must say thereafter, I felt like a complete idiot because I was not getting the moves as quickly, but due to the love for pole, I found Veena. We always have to push ourselves a little more because we can do more than we think. Well, that's how I feel, but it's effecting the move when you are ready to take that chance. I think when I fell the first time, it gave me more of a push to not have the loving pole break me down to quit. Always remember, we fall down, but we get up and try again….:) If you like your studio, and you all support each other, then keep going. It will pay off!!
Have a great day! 🙂

I am presently in law school working on obtaining my juris doctorate degree in hopes of becoming an attorney one day in the future.
Everyone here is awesome! 🙂

Oh my goodness… When I started poling, the fear of falling was one of my first discussions I posted on Veena; therefore, I know how you feel. I am terribly afraid of heights. I have been back to poling just shortly due to taking a break to have my daughter, so now I feel as if I need to get over the fear all over again. You are doing really good just to be poling for a month. I have been taking my time to work on my fear of heights, so I have not been doing inverts yet but working my way into it. My body is ready to invert, but my mind is not. 🙂 I am really afraid, so once I work into it, then I will gain more confidence in doing it.
Congrats on doing your inverts but I would say not to let go of the pole until you trust yourself. You will know when you're ready to move into the next step. I wish I were there at the invert stage but confidence will bring comfort for doing those moves. I don't want to get anxiety because I am afraid of inverting at this time causing me more problems although I can't wait to do it. 🙂 Keep up the good work and continue to have fun poling. As you become more comfortable, the fear will subside. You still WOW me by inverting already and just started poling a month ago. 🙂

It takes time to heal and emotionally it is very difficult to cope. I can relate because I have an angel baby which I lost when I was 3 mos pregnant and during the time of going through the phases of coping and accepting what happened, I was a mess. Its hard but you will get through the healing process. It takes time and your feelings are normal.

Yes, I am taking Veenas lessons. I attended a studio for a month and the instructor had us doing from beginner to intermediate moves and most certainly, I could not do anything which required me to be off the ground, which I felt like an idiot. What made it worse for me was seeing the other girls effect the moves with no to little problems while I was suffering badly… LOL I did not keep in mind that I was the only beginner in the simple pole class that night which I was told that I needed to move from the beginner pole to the simple pole classes. I decided to stop attending the studio because I saw no progress at all and it lowered my confidence. Not too long before deciding to stop attending, I found Veena. Issue I have to realize is that I've had a taste of the intermediate although I could not effect it, now, I want to get to that point however realizingthat I also have this fear hinders me as well. Starting off too soon at the studio sort of pushed me back but thank goodness for Veenas lessons. I will be working on them more this weekend and hopefully this fear will cease soon. 🙂 I know I will win the battle because of the desire of conquering these fear issues and advancing on the pole. Thank you guys for all of the great advice. I do not feel so bad now but when I was writing it, I felt like a total idiot. LOL

Thank you Sensualscimitar. I apologize but I did not see your comment while writing my last message because I was writing mine at the same time. I will work on the moves you've given as well. I need to get over the heart fluttering of actually doing the spin. I have the boldness to do it, but need the confidence of knowing that I can hold on to the pole as you have stated. I have been working on trying to climb the pole as well and oh my goodness…LOL. I feel like my heart is doing track and field. LOL Thank you so much for your advice.

Thank you very much guys. I was so embarrassed posting this, but in order to overcome this fear, I had to face it. I actually thought that I was the only one having this problem. Now, I feel better that I have great advice and encouragement. Chemgoddess1, thank you for some tips on how to trust myself and I will work on them today. I love watching the videos posted and I want to join in on the spinning moves, instead of just wishing that I can. I need to build my confidence and trust myself as you both have stated. I appreciate you guys. Thank you so much.

I understand how you feel. It's a very slowwwww process for some of us. I am going through the same thing with having very little upper body strength, but just don't give up. You are not alone, but I know it is very frustrating. Keep working on it and you will improve. If you can hold yourself up for even an extra second, then that's progress. It takes time.
