Oh! and don't worry about being brand new or not; I lost pretty much all my neat pole moves (the few I had!) after being sick for months and now I can't invert (turns out I'm pregnant!). I still try to get some virtual pole jams on (I coordinate some, check my profile)  and I am planning to pole a video on here too at some point. You'll find that polers, especially Veeners, are SUPER supportive and quite honestly want to see you improve so don't worry 😀 There are also great lessons here that could help you advance faster.

A few things that could make a difference are if your pole is brand new or used, what material/finish it is, the temperature of the room, and the size (diameter) of your pole.  If you have a new pole you may want to use steam from a steam cleaner or iron to get the packaging residue off. If it is a different finish from the pole you use in class you may just need to adjust to the difference or buy a grip aid (SV has some great discussions on that, the search feature is awesome). If your room is substantially cooler or warmer you may again need to adjust to it. Finally, a bigger or smaller pole (diameter) will have different grip for your hands and elbow/knee pits. In general, a smaller pole is easier to grip for smaller hands but harder to grip with legs and a larger pole is easier to grip for larger hands and easier for legs.

    HTH & Welcome!

All are designed to be non-irritating. (The Keeper is rubber, Meluna is TPE, and the others are Silicone). If you don't have an allergy (some people are irritated by silicone, others are allergic to latex rubber) choosing the right fit is more important. Flexines now carries the Meluna Sport for pole dancing and other athletics: http://flexines.blogspot.com/p/flexine-boutique.html https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Of course, after I hit "save" I found the video I was going to post: http://youtu.be/-H2wMgF3W8g I saw this last week and admired her dancing as usual. It hit me when I was shopping and they played this song; I almost broke down right in the middle of the hardware store. It was hearing that phrase "I want you to stay" that did me in.

Welcome back! Your aunt reminds me of mine; it means so much for someone to care so deeply and show that kind of love. My aunt also passed about three years ago and I still find myself about to ask her a question or tell her about something new when I remember she died. A few ladies on here have made really beautiful pole videos to honor loved ones that have passed; maybe that would help you a little.

Congratulations on being the strong woman your aunt must have been so proud of–not many can come back from the kind of treatment you received. It's okay for you to feel broken right now and I wish you all the best in getting back to your pole journey. 🙂

Happy Anniversary! In a lot of ways StudioVeena is the world's pole community besides being an excellent online studio. Thank you for all the work that entails and more importantly the incredible amount of support SV provides for all pole dancers https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

You've gotten some great responses! Mine went from wondering why I would want to pole to being the one to set people straight that stripping is one part of a rich array of types of pole. Hopefully your guy will change his tune 🙂

Oversplits might not be "functional" but stretching absolutely is. Before getting into pole and stretching my back hurt a lot of the time and I always had problems getting comfortable including while sitting, laying down, and getting intimate. Now I only have those problems if I fall off my flexy wagon. Stretching has eliminated the need for taking NSAIDs a few times a week, buying heat pads, and the general discomfort I had simply accepted. It also reduces risk of injury to be flexible and the stretching itself increases blood flow. Plus for me stretching is a chance to hang out b/c I stretch in video chat with my fellow polers!

I would take insult, at least at first. I definitely agree, though: most non-polers have no idea how much you are actually doing and it hurts; everyone else is right that you should try to let it go. I bet if he were up there he could not make the same moves look half as good! The trick is to keep that in mind and not let it phase you. You may just change his viewpoint later, maybe not, but just think that his is just one little comment against all our voices cheering you on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

What I read on the livejournal forum about being upside-down/laying down with a cup is that it isn't much different from pads. TMI warning: cover your eyes, men. You know when you shift in your seat, stand, or get up from bed and suddenly you gush into your pad? All that was up in there, if that is normal/safe, then using a cup certainly is 😀 Like liquidnude said, cups are not for everyone, I just figured I'd clarify that it wouldn't be anything you haven't experienced.

I would say continue to work on core strength for sure and you really can never get enough flexy training (but that one is my bias lol). Also try to continue to improve your grip strength of your legs (those hip adductor/abductor machines might be good, although if you accomplish this w/o a machine that's probably better). You might want to buy those hand-held grip strengthening balls/loops or squeeze a tennis ball for hand strength as well. These are all areas I personally am struggling badly with after being sick and inactive for almost 3 months, HTH!

Oh and Meluna's are made out of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer = mix of polymers).
