I have always been tiny so when I gaining muscle mass I was excited–although I ripped my favorite long coat! Didn't realize I had managed to get that ripped! 🙂

This makes me want to do some pole work now LOL

This is familiar! We still have a DVD ROM with pictures from hubby's *three* rotator cuff surgeries. He, for once, wasn't too stubborn to go in to a doctor right away; he went right after the car he was going to work on fell off a hoist smack onto his shoulder.
He was the shop manager and top producer at the auto shop he worked at and the person who had done maintenance on the hoist overlubricated it and left something undone. It will *never* heal to 100%, or even 90% of his range of motion. He also can't lift some of our daughter's toys with that arm, much less our daughter and that's rough on him.
My addendum to Chem's story is don't think you can injure your rotator cuff as an adult and spring right back. Even if you do get medical attention right away, keep in mind that tendons, ligaments, and cartilage do not get as much blood flow–they will heal slowly and not as well. Be careful ladies, and gents, so you can keep those impressive feats coming 😛 lol 🙂

PDR, I'm not a dubstep expert either (hopefully pankake(sp?) reads this!) but I do love dubstep. Could you please post an example or two of what you are looking for? I bet that would get some ideas going 🙂 I'm excited to see what we can come up with!

My Personal Fitness instructor was very strict about only working out every other day and recommened that we alternate cardio and strength training days. It wouldn't even count towards our grade if we worked out two days in a row. You can see from that how important rest is! On this site, from what I have read, the consensus seems to be that you need at least one rest day a week and should alternate cardio and strength days.
What I do is aim for strength training on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday since I do stretching on Tues/Thurs with the Flexines and prep by doing cardio (details: flexines.blogspot.com) in Veena chat. Then I have more flexibility on the weekends so I can do one day of rest and either one or two workout days (cardio or strength). Usually I go with two rest days especially when I overdue anything and can feel it.
Nothing is really set in stone except for making sure you rest. Resting is very important to rebuilding muscle fibers torn by strength training, cardio, and flexy training and rebuilding these fibers is what gives you your progress while the workout breaks them down for you. I can't say for sure if that's enough but since you are getting achy it sounds like it is pushing your body enough, I would say keep at it–better to be consistent with short work outs done with good form than to try to overdo it or have bad form. The rule of thumb is to increase intensity by 15% after not less than 2 weeks from what I learned in class.

For me, the most important quality I am looking for in an instructor is whether she can teach the style I'm after or has flexibility in her style. And by that I mean, what moves is she going to be strong in teaching? Is this going to be a sexy pole dance with chair class, or a burlesque class, or a fitness class? Is she going to focus enough on elements I can translate to what I call a figure-skating-esque style (what I'm after!).
While I do keep cost in mind, I would rather save up for good classes and get a package deal then take a class that will make me feel like I'm wasting my money. But that's just me still in savings mode after yet another financial issue has come up.
@Chem how does someone look like they know or don't know about nutrition, lol? 🙂
One other important part of the equation is having heard recommendations. Hotelchick mentioned a pole studio in our area and I am considering it b/c she brought it up and had good things to say. I am still considering Veena lessons because so many people have nice things to say ( outside of just hawking them as sometimes occurs b/c we love Veena so much 😉 , I hear about a lot of instances when someone nailed a particular trick b/c of the Veena explanation. Spontaneous testimonials are very important!

…your clothing is getting really tight in just the upper arm area.
@Juicy J, lol–the utter silence. Maybe you need to make her a pole convert 🙂

The rubbing alcohol should kill 99% of the microbes, although with pee it's more of a smell issue isn't it. I'm guessing he's banned from the area 🙂 lol

Maybe an analgesic cream would help, like Bengay or Tylenol Precise? But then you wouldn't be able to keep working on it while using the cream… I know I am a total wimp about that pain too and I've been avoiding pole sits which I know won't help.
So far I have been working more on flexibility, which is sometimes more painful but it seems like a pain I can manage. With stretching I notice that I've been starting to enjoy the moderate levels of pain–that "good stretch" feeling. I wish that would happen with pole sits!

Nope, not me either. Any other Veeners? I hope one of us won 🙂

Thanks Storypole! I found a shop in California that sells online too: https://www.capeziodanceshop.com/leg-warmers-mondor-36-legwarmers
Those are 36" and are $14.00 + Free shipping to the U.S. They sell them in pink, black, and white. Capezio Dance Shop is PayPal verified too.
For some reason I have an aversion to stirrups but I hear you can just pull that part up and not wear it that way. Why am I so picky LOL

If you mail USPS Parcel Post it might be cheaper. I have no idea how much these weigh but:
If it is 5 oz. It would be $6.12: http://ircalc.usps.com/MailServices.aspx?country=10013&m=6&p=0&o=5#
It it's one pound $11.60: http://ircalc.usps.com/MailServices.aspx?country=10013&m=6&p=1&o=0
Click either of those links and hit "back" to enter your correct weight specs. HTH 🙂
