The ones I can think of right now:

    George Michael – Careless Whisper

    Sade – Smooth Operator

Nouvelle Vague – In a Manner of Speaking

Touch and Go – Straigth to Number One

October 26, 2012 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Hey – Im a new memeber and new to pole.

I got an accidental, major work out on Wednesday from carrying pumpkins around by the stems (my arms were full of my daughter). They were the medium sized pumpkins, not even the large ones! The next morning I could not figure out why my fore arms hurt so much, lol.

This actually worked on my grip strength because that's alll the was keeping the pumpkins from dropping to the floor. You could work on this with kettlebell weights or 2 L soda pop bottles. I started about 2 months ago and have been totally disapointed with my lack of strength, so if that's where you're at you're not alone 🙂

Another workout I do is knee next to a short cushioned stool and lay my forearm on it so it is flat on there with my wrist facing the ceiling. I hold a weight in that hand and do some slow wrist curls. This also works out the forearm area. You can use pretty much anything for stability, I just happen to have that stool, the point is keep your arm from moving around so you can increase strength in the muscles that support the wrist.

Welcome and Congratulations on starting your pole journey! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

One of the little ones comments "Why are you wearing so much clothes?" with so much surprise to see you fully dressed.

(My nephew just said this to me with so much shock in his voice, haha!)

I quit!!! I came down to where it was so obvious I was freaking out about it that my boss started spreading rumors that "something was wrong with my home life." It was a great company to work for, but I didn't get scheduled enough and the drama was atrocious. Then yesterday I came to work to find out my schedule was changed and I missed my morning shift so my boss gave my assistant manager directions to "send her home when she gets here." I took my notice dated 9/15/12, signed it and put yesterdays date on it, and left it for her.

I'm free now! I settled on working from home–I'm going to do tutoring again and maybe some babysitting plus I am selling on ebay and posting deals on dealpl.us (if you don't know what that is this will give you an idea: http://dealspl.us/?r=dealwagger ). I'm going to focus on school as the new semester comes in 🙂

abcollins1, just to clarify, the word "manly" was not used to describe any woman or the muscle and "freaks" did not come up until your response mentioned it. I think we are in more agreement with you than you might have thought 🙂 Strong women are beautful, and each person can choose to take that to whatever level personally suits her, which makes it all the better.

There are days you won't start you workout because you have to find your eyeliner first!

Tiaradw, here's a super helpful discussion from the sticky threads section: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/How_often_should_I_Pole_2010-04-09_180126

Working in jewelry, I here this a lot. Notifying the police and making a police report is important. From what I have heard, they will inform local pawn shops and gold buying places. Make sure they do, if not, follow Chemie's advice and let local pawn shops, jewelry stores that buy gold, and gold buying places know, within reason. I am so sorry this happened to you, there are few things more maddening than having your trust broken. Good luck!

Be careful with this. I am a new poler and was trying to do lots and lots of pole holds until I noticed stabbing pains in my elbows and to a lesser extent also in my shoulders. After I focused on strengthening the same muscles with small hand weights the pain went away and I felt that "good pain" that you get the day after a fufilling workout. Pain that shoots through your arm from your elbow sounds familiar to me… you might just be putting too much weight on the joint rather than supporting it with muscle. Focus on engaging your muscles and/or strength training and see if that resolves the pain. Congratulations on your new child! Children in themselves are good strength training as they seem to love being held more than anything else, lol 🙂 Good luck!

I also learned that Facebook gossip quickly becomes work gossip and will only friend ex-coworkers, if anything. Some might try to persuade you into friending them because they somehow take it personally that you won't Facebook friend them, oh well, they'll live.

Sascha, this really sucks. I hate work drama, but there are always people that relish it. To me, this is a case of spreading rumors because of the way your poling was described was obviously not accurate. If someone had taken the time to describe your fitness hobby I bet you would have been approached with a request for lessons! 🙂 In any case, I always think that each person has a right to talk about his or her personal life as chosen, rather than have other people decide what everyone else needs to know. (aka Need to mind your own business!)

You'll want to just keep researching, search the discussions here, there's great info. Best bet though is to put away a little bit every month, maybe £3 if that's all you can. That's what I'm doing until I can buy some lessons 🙂
