I agree, could probably just use real cowboy boots?  If you want a boot look you could also go with the revolver boots, I saw a pair recently that I really liked, but they don't so much look like cowboy boots. Just the revolver part and bullet belt makes it a little reminiscent of cowboys/western.

Hey Pia ;). Yes, I, too love Samadhi! it’s how I have met many of my close friends here after I moved from the mainland. getting involved in something when you move is always a great way to meet people. Lady Throttle have you had a chance to go to the studio yet?

I would agree, don't discount chiropractic. There are some amazing practitioners out there who are more than capable of administering treatments, as well as recommending exercise and stretching regimens etc, to correct the underlying issues. At heart, it has to do with alignment, but most of them do not stop there, though I suppose it depends on where you go. I have found that chiropracters, like doctors, often have a specialty demographic, so find a sports chiro with emphasis in dance/gymnastics.  I would go to the chiropracter weekly if only I could afford it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

My advice would be to know your audience and keep it simple. I watched one of your videos that you had posted with the audition in mind, and it was great! You have a fantastic presence/personality on stage, so capitalize on that. Burlesque is all about character, engaging the audience, and being provocative. Since the audition is with a burlesque troupe, you might consider adding some really simple burlesque elements in addition to humor to the piece you perform, even if its freestyle, ie a glove or stocking peel, use a fan or boa etc? That will help make them see how well you can integrate a pole piece into a burlesque show, revue, performance etc. Because you know they would love a pole dancer so they can have that dance variety, but they really want a dynamic burlesque pole performer the most. I think you can do it and best of luck!

I know that when I was marathon training I had a lot of little training pains, trigger points, and muscle overuse injuries. I went to a sports chiropracter who specializes in Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) which is a soft tissue manipulation method that works to release muscle scar tissue to ease overuse injuries similar to massage (very very generalized description) and IT CHANGED MY LIFE.  As a runner that is.  I have also found it to be a really helpful therapy for injuries I have acquired in aerial training. ART can be administered by a chiro, LMT, or PT though it originated from the chiropractic field. If it's not something that you have tried yet, it might be worthwhile if you can find a practitioner.

I agree with pretty much everything that has been listed above, and want to add… Michula Nunez.   I could watch her dance all day! 🙂

The dancer is Zoey Jakes. She is amazing. I got to watch her perform with Beats Antique (a band she is a part of) and it was such an awesome experience. I am completely fascinated with her style of belly dance.

that video made me want to be a belly dancer so badly! I took a few classes, and it was really hard for me, but still a lot of fun. If I could work it into my schedule, I would totally go back. But it isn't in the cards for me at the moment.

Definitely give belly dance a shot.

I have been having a lot of questions about stretching, especially concerning safety and also efficiency. I want to  make sure that all the time that I am putting into it is effective and moving me towards my goal, without also moving me towards destabilized joints 15 years into the future. I want to pole FOREVER! Flexibility training is big right now, but if one doesn't have experience with it and is training on their own, it's immensely important to research. Flexibility training isn't necessarily good for a person just because it's stretching. It's good if it's done right and potentially detrimental if it's done incorrectly.

I have found Thomas Kurz's Stretching Scientifically book to be a good resource. I think that you can even get a pdf of the 4th edition online. It's comprehensive and he definitely explains in detail the best way to organize workouts to maximize flexibility and workout gains. My favorite part of this book is that he cites his sources, so if you want to know more about a concept he introduces, you can easily see where he gets his information and look it up from there. Plus, orange is a great color 😉

Another free online resource that I liked enough to get printed and bound to have on hand is this…

    http://www.cmcrossroads.com/bradapp/docs/rec/stretching/

It's basically a compilation of flexibility information that can be quite useful. I haven't gotten all the way through it, but am liking what I have seen so far.

@glitter, thanks for the info! The amazon link wasnt working though… can you retry it or let me know what you searched for? The tricky part about the makeup is that it has to be layered and not visible in the regular light. Timewise, I have a piece right before that costume change and I dont have time to change makeup at all. Where could I find blonde falsies?

@ MsBKitty, will definitely check it out! Thanks for the advice 🙂

Thanks polefitmom! We are pretty set on the costumes… it's a group chair piece, not a pole solo, so the costuming part is set. We ran at halloween last time, so we could get the lashes here locally, but we are running again at the end of March, so I am looking into finding stuff now. The costumes that we are trying to get the lashes and lips for are in my photos here…

Unfortunately, the angle in the dark doesnt show the lashes and lips that I had then, but they were a little too subtle so I am looking for alternatives.

also, if  you watch Luckygirl1220 or webstwe on on youtube, or any videos from Brassy Butterfly, those are 1.5" poles. They are custom built 15' coated spinners.

I wouldn't think that it would be a hamstring flexibility issue unless you are noticing your hamstrings holding you back in other straight leg positions. Afterall, one doesn't use their hamstrings to straighten their leg, that would be a function more of the quads in that agonist/antagonist muscle group, right? I would assume that with that back bend your hip flexors need to be really flexible and maybe that could be the issue? Where do you feel the tightness or resistance in your muscles when you work towards straightening the knee?  I am really interested to hear what others say!
